Is this the type of finish that feels like velvet when new? (velvet, peach skin or something)

Feels more like plastic to me, like a silky rubber.

​@@HewAndAwe ah, I think it maybe is similar, lot of plastic objects are cowered with this also, lime umbrella handle, computer mouse, weber salt+pepper grinder etc, after a while it turns sticky, or deteriorates, impossible to get off, or clean.
Is it plastic under this on the speakers also?
