I did Rev for a few months. I actually loved it and there where quite a few jobs which I picked up from clients in my own country (New Zealand) but, you can really risk losing your account by picking up bad audio quality jobs, and/or jobs with heavy accents.
There are strict rules around the time you have to change your mind on a job, after picking it up, and also around delivery times - though each transcription is different. It can be fun and you can definitely make money from it but, it can also be a nightmare at 1am when you're still awake, transcribing, and you'd rather be sleeping in bed.

I tried this job years ago. Idk if it’s my kids were too loud but the videos you have to transcribe are really bad and hard to transcribe. There’s alot of noise in the background and you need a good ear and good headphones to make sure you are hearing what the people are saying to type what is said.
I love that you've added blooper reels to your videos in the last few years, it really makes you so relatable and one of the only CZcamsrs I trust for information on making money. Thank you for being a valuable source for so many of us ❤️

I tried Rev and it took me several hours to only make $20 total. I was only able to pass the test for captioning. Everyone picks all the good quality videos really fast before you can preview them and then the ones that are left are hard to understand.

I was a transcriptionist for Rev and I made like $4 an hour. I type insanely fast and I used to be a teacher, so I never need to stop to spell check. I don't know how anyone could be making a lot of money doing transcription work.

Really is a good opportunity now and it's so easy these days with all the apps competing with each other. There's a ton of people that doesn't know about apps like Descript that's extremely accurate, doing most of the work for you. You'll just need to go back and make some minor corrections. Then you can layer additional services like pulling out clips from the long-form content you're transcribing for short-form content with captions that can be repurposed for marketing. I use it all the time for my content.

Have you done this personally and found that you are able to successfully use the apps within the parameters given by your clients? I would hate to get clients and later find out that I am required to physically transcribe within their ecosystem.

NOTE when you upload a new video onto youtube (create) you have to make sure you fill out the section 'Language and captions certification' to define which language the video is in. If this section is left blank than the 'subtitles' tab shown in this tutorial will be grayed out. Hope that helps anyone that might get stuck!

Thank you for sharing this video. The thing is I’ve tried to apply for many transcription companies but not all video or voice records are as clear as you talk. It is hard to understand some peoples accent, some people speak to fast. But for those with good listening skills this is definitely great job.

Transcription software may not take into account accents, dialects, speaking too fast, the content itself. You always have to review the work before finishing it.

I hope Rev has improved because it was horrible when I did it. They would pick who they wanted to give the good jobs. I signed up to transcribe videos, but they never assigned me any videos.
I was always assigned audio jobs that were very difficult to understand due to various accents and loud noises in the background. I was lucky to get paid $10.00 for six to eight hours per day in a week.

Such a great content Kat!! I think it would have been such a great deal if you explained steps to creating an account on rev and some other necessary information after the account’s creation.
I did try creating an account but I was asked about company! Which I don’t know what that meant! I’m sure some persons would also have this same problem with creating an account.
Plus for Rev, you have to take a grammar test and a sample transcription. Your typing speed needs to be in the 60’s. Unless your really good in the aforementioned, you will need to study their guide. Kat has oversimplified this. They don’t play. All the CZcams’s I’ve watched have a transcribed script. I doubt if someone is doing that for them. It might be & I’am guessing within the CZcams algorithm.

If I remember correctly, they’re asking why you want to work for them. They want a. Idea of your thought process and ability to write. Make sure you study their guide before u take their test. You need to know grammar & punctuation pretty well. Their transcription test can also be difficult. Some things are hard to hear & interpret. They’re not lenient in grading them either.

Kat-I love your videos, but have to tell you my experience with Rev. I applied in April as a Transcriptionist. Had to take a test transcribing based on their guidelines. In November they said I did not pass the test. Not only did they let me wait forever to know-being a beginner was not taken into account. I have heard the captioning test is easier to pass. It is unacceptable to wait this long.
That's why when something sounds too good to be true it usually is. I listen to this type of video sometimes but, I don't bother to actually do it because I know it doesn't really work. These are usually done so the person making the video can make money with content so people will watch it.

REV employee here. REV has an EXTREMELY competitive job queue system with the top transcriptionists getting first dibs on high quality jobs that are worth it at all. REV is EXTREMELY unreliable in finding doable jobs. Most of the jobs that you will have available for the first year of working there are low quality video/audio clips, clips from meetings where people speak over each other, mumble rap music vids, professor ramblings, and downright traumatic police footage. If you need experience, go ahead and do it. Otherwise, do something else.

I ask because their Dash Tool used for submission, seems to only allow typing as you read the video. Or am I misunderstanding and it's only for the submission test? Hey, I recently found a good paying online job while searching for writing jobs online and wanted to put it out there. I came across a website called Paid Online Writing Jobs.
