I would like to see more about your IAC setup. Thanks for the video!
If you have trouble with dropping fuel pressures, it's because of the location of your FPR. I had mine mounted exactly like yours and had 15psi after 30 minute drives. I moved the FPR to the passenger side of the engine and pressure issues went away
I watch redline280z for yrs now ! I love when channels are aware of each other. It's great !
Great and helpful video! Im working on swapping a l28et into my Z and am using one of these, glad I found your video before I bolted my manifold up!
Glad to help! Make sure to check the comments for some stuff I missed in the video too!
Doing same thing!
It used to be just me and my z from 1994 to 2023. I am currently getting parts together for my 1978 Datsun 280 XX 2+2 5speed good luck
Such a helpful video
Thanks for this! The throttle cable conversion was a big mystery for me, not anymore! Appreciate it :)
Thanks for the video! Very imformative!
This was very informative thank you
Nice man, watching with interest… have intake on route.
Hey man, I've got a really similar build. 77 280Z 2+2, PTZ manifold, added turbo. I'm running speeduino, sequential ignition + fuel. I ran into many of the same problems as you.
I'm looking to get a P90 head ASAP as boosting this N47 head isn't working great.
Nice! Do you have an Instagram?
Hi nice job, question how do you run the engine with out airflow meter?
Thanks for the video! I have a 2+2 also
I follow you on Instagram, I love your Z! 🙏
@@DrivenDreamZ Thank you! I love your headlights. I have been looking for some kind of like them but I dont want to rip your build off lol
@@PacificRacer I know how you feel lol. But don't worry I think they'd look awesome on your Z
🔥 content brother!
Thanks again for this great detailed video! Q- why did you have to get the V8 cable system if you bought the 240 sx accel cable and the skillard bracket ?
I bought it by mistake originally lol. But there were some small pieces that I used from the kit that made attaching to the linkage by the firewall easier.
Do you happen to remember what brand fuel injectors you used? I got some from Autozone and they don't fit the predrilled spots
Please tell me how you did with the ECU, what ECU did you use? Can you give me details?
Hello ! I actually love the engine 😍 do you have to run something like mega squirt to run that intake ? Thank you!
Yeah aftermarket harness and ecu. Protunerz actually has their own that they sell on their website
@@DrivenDreamZ why would you have to use a aftermarket one? I figured with protunerz intake it would bring in more air, but if there is more air wouldn't you just have to allow more fuel? Isn't that what the adjustable fuel regulator is for? Just manually adjust it accordingly until your afr gauge reads what it should? Or am I just making myself sound stupid? Lol
@@jamiewalker9058 Fuel pressure won't really increase fuel flow into the chamber, that's the injector's job under the direction of the ECU. You should get an adjustable fuel regulator to keep the fuel pressure at approx 38psi (it will adjust a bit based on engine load/vacuum). If you put larger injectors in, then you will get more fuel during the same injector spray that is based off of the ECU's signal (pulse). The right way to do it is to add a stand-alone ECU where you can adjust how much fuel is sprayed into the chamber (pulse width adjustments) and tune your engine more precisely.
Great video! I have some questions about the IAC valve setup, I have the fast EFI and Pro Tunerz intake w/ rail as well but I'm having a hard time with the idle. Did you have to splice in a new IAC sensor? The version I got from Pro Tunerz came with a new IAC valve for the version 3.0 throttle body. Every time I fire her up she idles at 1600 rpm and quickly increases to 3000 rpm. Any tips would be much appreciated 🙏🏼
I had a problem like that I'm not sure if you're having the same problem but I had tightened my tps sensor too much causing the throttle flap to stay too far open. I had the first intake that didn't have the additional IAC.
@@DrivenDreamZ Definitely something to look into, thanks! Is that why you have you TPS rotated 90 degrees? I have my TPS straight up and down (vertical I guess?) I'll try rotating mine similarly to yours and see if that helps. Either way thanks for the response!
I think it actually had something to do with my throttle body being assembled differently. My flap actually was upside down lol
Very helpful video i just did all these upgrades aswell just one question do you know what are all the necessary vacuum lines/ connections needed to the new intake and the one that aren’t needed anymore?
Unfortunately I sold my intake so I don't think I know which were kept. I think it was only 3 out of the 4 they provide that I kept. I remember there being 1 for the brake booster and maybe 1 thing on my EFI harness and 1 for the fuel gauge
@@DrivenDreamZ do you recall where the idle screw goes or if its needed because when i started it up it was at 3k rmps then it tried to redline im not sure if my TPS is faulty bc its readings are 10v and above
I had that same problem and it was because my tps was too tight and held the throttle flap open too much
@@DrivenDreamZ okay i will give it some more wiggle room thank you for answering after so long this video was posted i really appreciate you since there isn’t many guides, instructions sent or install vids on it
No worries! Glad to help 👌
I have a question I’m trying to run the same set up I would like to see more of the spacer set up you have. And where did you put the ez efi control vacuum leak sensor
Shoot me a message on Instagram and I can send you some pics of the spacer set up. I mounted the sensor by the driver side shock tower.
Where did you run the crank case vent to?
Nice set-up. Are you connecting the the the system to stock ECU?
No I'm using the ez efi retrofit harness from zcardepot
Btw idk if this is a 280zx thing or if other models had them, but did you have one of those gas canisters, I guess it was supposed to be like a breather system for the gas tank?
Yeah all of them have them I'm pretty sure.
@@DrivenDreamZ what did you end up doing with that line? Since I removed the whole thing I was wondering, Did you close it off or did you run that line to somewhere else?
Im not sure what everyone else does with it but I just ran it to another catch can with a breather.
I noticed you have the 240sx tps listed as one of the parts to get. I thought you would be able to use stock tps with the protunerz throttle body? Mine is a zx turbo so idk how much difference it would make
They use the 240sx throttle body so it's easier to use the 240sx tps.
@@DrivenDreamZ does it matter what year 240sx tps you get? I saw you listed 1989
I don't remember so I just stuck with the s13 and avoided the s14
I have a question about your injector placement. I just installed protunerz intake manifold and fuel rail, I have the furl rail bolted down with the brackets, but as for your injectors, do they just freely sit inside the manifold? Did you have any issues with the angle of your brackets and the injectors properly pointing into the hole of the manifold?
Yeah they are freely sitting in place. You have to make sure the injectors (including the rubber line) are the correct length so everything else sits right with the rail bolted in place.
@@DrivenDreamZ ok, that's how I did it, but I was just curious if there was some other trick to keeping those mounted properly, or if that's just the way it was. Kinda surprised protunerz wouldn't have some sort of mounting holes in place like on a stock manifold. But oh well. I'll see how it works I guess. Thanks man!
@@DrivenDreamZ also there is a hole on the bottom of the manifold, is this for like a sensor or something?
It's for the breather that comes from the block. I think most people just block off the hole in the manifold and put a filter on the pipe on the block or a line to a catch can.
Did you have to modify your 240 throttle cable at all? The cable is not reaching from the throttle body to that bracket on the side of the intake.
I used a 240sx throttle cable
Do you have a cold start valve in your setup? In my zx turbo it does not have one. I know some do and some don't, but i don't the reason. Something to do with efi maybe?
No cold start valve after doing the EFI upgrade. A lot of people delete it if you don't get much cold weather. Even where I am, Colorado, I wouldn't want it because I wouldn't drive it if it's too cold.
How and where did you connect your map sensor?
would this Protuner intake fit L24 carburetted engine. I would liek to convert from carburettor to efi.
I believe you would have to change the head or modify the head for the l28 injectors since the ports are different.
would this intake work with stock harness/ecu if i somehow bullshit the AFM somewhere into this? only issue at the moment, a whole new ecu and harness is very pricy for me.
Theoretically, yes but you'll have to do a couple of modifications, I think. You'll have to figure out the TPS sensor and you'll have to figure some of the things that this would delete like the egr stuff. I would still recommend saving up for an aftermarket ECU and harness eventually.
Hey, i in the process of a Protunerz + Fast EFI setup. I had a couple questions/clarifications. For idle air, did you use the Protunerz IAC or the Fast IAT? Also, for the TPS, the harness has three wires, but the TPS has 4 terminals, how did you splice?
I used the Fast IAC since I have the early intake when they didn't make their own IAC. You need a 240sx TPS and not what came with the Fast kit.
@@DrivenDreamZ Thanks, that makes sense since most of the upgrade parts are from the 240sx. Ill order one and figure out the IAC situation. The new Protunerz IAC has a 2-wire connection and the Fast EFI has 4-wires. Prob just utilize the Fast one.
@@DrivenDreamZ Finally have everything installed and car able to turn on. I know the system has to learn, but did you deal with a high rpm issue. Mine at startup is 3k and im blowing a bunch of gray smoke (too rich?). Thoughts?
I had that problem kinda. My TPS was tightened down too hard so it left the throttle open too much. I had to re-adjust how much the flap was open on idle too. And I think every first start up it's always going to run rich. Once it gets through the learning phase I think it'll be fine.
@@DrivenDreamZ thanks, not much out there for assistance. Some only install the Fast EFI, some only the Protunerz intake, rarely both. I deduced it down to throttle adjustment also. Any thoughts on how much fuel pressure, the instructions day start at 40psi, but some reviews ive read state thats too high for stock-type injectors, so they reduced it down to 29psi base and 25psi at idle on regulator.
Where did you get the headlights? Those things are sweet.
I have the link in the previous video's description
@@DrivenDreamZ thanks man
Protunerz doesn't send you fittings for the hoses to fit on?
They did but not all the sizes I needed so I had to get a few that actually matched
@@DrivenDreamZ I'm getting my manifold on Monday, so it was helpful to watch this video, gave me a heads up on some extra things I would need to grab.
Glad to help! 🙏
Hi do you feel like the intake manifold make a hp difference?
Not alone really, so no. You would have to do other things with it to make significant hp.
@@DrivenDreamZ am running mild cam headers full 2.5 inch exhaust and fueltech standalone.thanks for the
How is that evil energy rad going? Amazon purchase also i assume
It's just a sticker that came with my AN fitting wrenches lol radiator was cheap off of eBay though 😂 hopefully will replace that soon
@@DrivenDreamZ yeah I’m going between just buying a name brand or temporary cheap one off Amazon-eBay.
Yeah hopefully here soon I'll be going with mishimoto 👌
@@DrivenDreamZ So just received my intake - two questions as you have it installed. Did you use the inlet on the bottom (next to the throttle cable mount spot)? Whats the threaded hole for on the fuel rail? Cold start injector fuel? Block it off?
Oh! I forgot about that! Thanks for asking. I have mine plugged up. It's for the PCV Crankcase Vent Hose. Alternatively I have breather filters over that and the one up top on the valve cover. Normally you can run them both to a oil catch can.
Where is your AFM
Standalone efi allows you to delete afm
@@jamiewalker9058 The AFM is replaced by a MAP sensor (the vacuum line that the video shows going off towards the fender) and an Intake Air Temperature sensor (the thing plugged into the rubber elbow just before the throttle body). These two sensors work together in what is called the Speed Density method of managing your engine.
where did you get mirrors?
I got them from Skillard.com
@@DrivenDreamZthanks G
Where were you able to find the correct bolts protunerz does not provide any?
It's one of the first things I listed in the description
