Buckner was one the top players in his era. The media and everyone around him screwed him as if he was only reason they lost. This is when I started hating the media. Billy B was a solid player AND person. This is definitely one of life’s most obvious injustices
I was at Shea Stadium that night. This short, while it did note that the score was tied when Mookie hit that trickling ground ball, the result of Buckner making the play would have been that the game would have gone to the 11th inning. The Red Sox do Not win the game or the Series if that play was made. In fact, there's no guarantee that Buckner beats Wilson to the bag if he fields it. Wilson was one of the fastest runners in the game and was quite capable of beating out the hit, especially since Stanley did not break for the bag to cover first base.
People have to understand that inning before Buckner's error. For instance Calvin Schraldi could not get an out after Kieth Hernandez hit a lazy fly out to center. With 2 outs, Gary Carter singled, then Kevin Mitchell singled sending Carter to third. Ray Knight then hit a single scoring Carter and sending Mitchell to third. McNamara then replaced Schraldi with Bob Stanley to pitch to Mookie Wilson. He threw a wild pitch(or a pass ball), depending on what you think scoring Mitchell and sending Knight to second. Then the infamous error" a slow roller along the bag that got by Buckner". I blame a series of unfortunate events that forced Bill Buckner to move out of the Boston area because of all the crap his kids got in school about an error that should of never happened. Remember baseball is an event sport, the Red Sox left 14 men on base that night and Calvin Schraldi could not get the final out in that horrific inning, he was pitching and they should have scored more than 5 runs.
Everyone forgets the game was tied when the ball went through his legs and happy as I was(being a Met fan)who knows what would have happened in extra innings
I feel awful for that moment to tell you the truth it could have happened to any fifty-year-old ball player with failing knees who is way past the end of his career you should have never been on the field during a world series game 4 defense wasn't he inserted into the lineup for his defense nice move Grady Little his last name stands for his limited knowledge of baseball grady little brain
Yeah BUT how much sweeter was it when they then blew it in 2003 but had the heroic comeback the following year down 0 - 3. I'm not from Boston and I'm just a casual Red Sox fan (owing mainly to my intense hatred of new York and the Yankees) but it seems like all that misery only made 2004 that much sweeter. That's got to be one of the few times a championship series overshadows the world series. 0 - 3 will live forever in baseball lore. Nothing is better than beating a fucking new York team, especially with a couple of horribly obnoxious stars like Jeter and arod. 😭Sorry I was getting worked up a bit. My hatred of the Yankees sometimes overwhelms me.
I don't give a damn what baseball things I grew up watching Petros you can take away over 4,000 hits from somebody when I saw him do it put p in the Hall of Fame
I saw Pete Rose hit over 4,300 base hits I don't care what bud selig says I saw it with my own eyes you were wrong bud and put Pete in the Hall of Fame
Bell Buckner is in the back fall of Fame Bill Buckner is in the ring Met Hall of famers the match even retired Bill Buckner's number thank you chilly Billy
Bill Buckner's error was in game 6 what about if the Red Sox really wanted to win the series they should have won game 7 the Red Sox didn't win because they were cars and because they suck and because their manager was an a******
Nah closer was trash came into the game and loaded the bases didn't he? Gave up a run or 2 something. I just watched a video talking about it but can't remember what exactly happened. But it's not his fault I mean the closer wasn't exactly lights out.
They should have put Nolan Ryan on the mound and they would have done batter without cheating you dirty team Astros doughnut how to win without cheating I heard they've been cheating every year since then just a different way
It’s a damn shame Buckner was such a good player and this is all he’s remembered for.
Bill Buckner was not the only reason the Red Sox lost that game. It was a team collapse.

I was working that summer in Boston, over from Ireland, became a redsox fan and was devastated 😢

As a Yankee fan, i still love it everytime i see it. Bahston sawks cack
Incorrect. Game 7 of the 2001 world series was the saddest
Stanley screwed Buckner
Worst team collapse I ever seen
Go Pete rose the true hitting king
The Astros all they did was cheat if they didn't treat their record with a bed one win and 161 losses
Bartman in Chicago: hold my beer!
You're not showing the total TEAM collapse in the innings prior to that one play
You need to realize that a bunch of mistakes led up to that error so it wasn’t just his fault
Everyone forgets the game was tied when the ball went through his legs and happy as I was(being a Met fan)who knows what would have happened in extra innings
That was the manager fault he wanted Buckner on the field to have the the was experience, but bill had bad knees and couldn't field that ball
The cocaine beat the incompetent Red Sox
Call Billy baseball Bill Buckner For the Hall of Fame
Because then that's what you share any blow with the Red Sox
I’m a Mets fan so this made me feel good🥰
I am a Braves fan, but I hate the Red Sox more than the Mets, so I feel better that the Mets won than if the Red Sox would have won.
Love you Bill it wasn't your fault I don't give a f*** what anyone says
Mookie would have beaten the race or throw to first.
I saw a pete rose hit over 4,300 Pete Rose's your true king you can't unsee 4300 hits it did happen in the whole world saw it
Maybe Pete Rose was managing they would have one for Pete Rose playing first base they would have won
Tony Uminski do you remember this?
I bet that Prescott and the cowboys can beat the Astros in baseball I would bet 20,000 to see that
Still it was nothing compared to the way the Astros cheated
Paid off
Only sad if your Red Sox
Go Pete Rose the real heading

If I was playing first base Boston would have won
I called canefield world series spell what the Astros did was a hundred times wire

Astros are cheaters and will always be remembered as cheaters forever
Did you see how the Mets looked in the 9th and 10th inning p hey what wired
