‘23 looks fantastic! I have to say, though, that the ‘22 is much more practical. The cargo capacity seems much better, as well as the passenger space.
I liked the split glass tail. I guess reversing cam can make up for lack of visibility

ive been on a waitlist for 5 months for the new prius. years ago i had a 2015 prius and i loved it. I am a tall person almost 6 feet tall and the prius always was roomy. However, I went to pick up my new prius today and as soon as a sat down i felt cramped. The whole car seems smaller than the older models. Also the sunroof not opening is kind of stupid. I didn't drive home with my new car. they are giving me 24 hours to think it over. Thinking for getting a rav4 instead because the prius cabin space seems crammed. but they said wait list is 6 months for a rav4. ugh buying a new car litterally sucks anymore.
I’m in agreement with you: I test drove a 2024 Prius at a dealer and I didn’t like the 5th generation. It’s too cramped and it’s harder to carry lots of stuff. And positioning the gauge cluster right above the wheel so that it’s blocked was a stupid design decision.
After looking for a car for six months, I ended up buying a lease return 2022 Toyota Prius LE with only 25,000 miles on it for $25K. On the surface I didn’t really save any money, but I got as close as I could to a new 4th Gen Prius.
Nice car, but at the end, its all about how much will cost

Great Side By Side for these two. Love the 23 model for the much improved interior and exterior styling. I actually like the wheels on the 22 model better.
Do you really prefer that tiny 7 inch screen to a real head up display and two additional 4.2 inch screens ?
Especially Generation 4 could show so much information at the same time which now isn't possible on more.
Now you will be distracted by toggling through the menu if you want to see different kind of info .
I like the new exterior but there was no need to change the really clever dashboard layout which was allways in your line of sight.
They should have improved it and should have not taken it away.
A Head up Display is something special which you can't at all compare with that cheap seeming 7 inch display they took out of the Bz4x .
It's a completely different feeling looking at a Head up Display than a traditional screen !
And really a 7 inch display while the new Corolla gets a 12,3 inch drivers display ?
Shouldn't the Prius get the their latest tech first ?

Things to fix on the new Prius after I buy this, remove 19" for 17", add Modelista body kit, and replace side mirrors with something that has turn signals on it. The lack of windshield wiper is interesting.
The fact that the compartment on the center console in the 22 opens from the side is a minor annoyance for me. I'm glad they changed it on the 23. Overall, I think Toyota did a lot of things right for the update. I own a 22 Prime. I was so excited to hear that they moved the battery for the 23 Prime to under the rear seats. I'm definitely interested in the 23, but I will wait for the PHEV Prime. I was playing around with the configuration tool on Toyota this morning to see what options I might want for the 23 Prime. I had been thinking I might do the mid level trim with a couple of add ons, but the more I played with it, I was bumping up to the Limited trim price by the time I included the options I wanted. I'll be curious to see what the PHEV options are.
I just came from a dealer here in Hawaii. A 2020 with 60,000 miles was going for $33000... The new 2023 XLE is $33,500 but has a 8 month wait. A 2014 with 160k miles was $16,000. And yes, this was a Toyota dealer. I ordered an LE for $30k in Guardian Grey.
Hi Jeff, thank you for your video with a very interesting comparison. It is a pity that it won't come to Brazil as soon. Here, as the Toyota started to sell the Hybrid Corolla in 2020, they suspended the importation of the Prius. Despite they said that Prius would come back to our market, they don't say when it would happen.

As someone who is 6’4”, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a Toyota product with ample headroom. Ever since they switched to that TNGA platform, it seems like all of the new vehicles max out at 38 inches of front headroom regardless if it’s a sedan, crossover, SUV.
Can one order those with fabric seats? The only time I got heat burn in Florida was on that cheap, evil Softex.

Head space might be an issue for a tall person and I'm not sure what to think about the change in coefficient of drag and MPG. The 2022 is athletic looking and the 23 is a mountain lion. Glad that useless rear windshield wiper is gone and I think the door handle change is novel. I like the increase in horsepower but will wait to see how this impacts longevity. Seems like more expensive maintenance but overall Prius is very low maintenance so it's more about other preferences. Haven't really made up my mind yet.
It looks so nice! In France we will just get the phev variant.
Jeff, you really need to compare each one as a Limited.
My son has a 2022 Prius Limited. It has a HUD and a 12.3" screen for starters.
His is a real nice car.
The 2023 does have some nice style to it though.

Did you find the angled windshield to feel as though you're wearing someone else's prescription glasses? I find it distracting when driving with really angled windshields.
its an oddly proportioned car as is, but seeing the roofline bodytrim, and rear doors entry cut out side by side *its obvs* to see why previous models cause eye strain
I like the 22's interior Much Better... the '23 is to broken up... it doesn't flow as one, it seems like it's borrowing stuff from other models. i'm curious about the difference between the 2.0 and 3.0 self driving??? and the AWD-e power differences ... other then that, I'm happy with my '22 ... and the years of proven reliability in it's powerless motor... will all that extra power bring years and years of trouble free reliability ? or is that extra power comes at a cost?

the best prius so far is second gen, is so simple to maintence and repairs compare to the newest one, the 5 gen looks nice but I don like that they raise the price and lower the car plus the move auxiliary battery back to the trunk compare the 4 gen

In person you will not see the flickering. The camera's frame rate (the speed it records), is such that it picks-up the one instance during each second of LED operation when the LED light is actually off.
Almost all LED lights do flicker, especially the really low budget Asian brands. The vast majority of people can't see the strobing in person, but, there are some people who can. I pity those individuals, one of whom I have met. LED's use what's known as a driver in place of a ballast to make the correct current for running an LED. The drivers cut off power to the light every 1/60th of a second. At that point, the light goes off for an instant, thus causing the flicker. The flicker is not good for your health, and in some cases can be dangerous.
If you have a Dashcam, you'll likely notice that cars/trucks coming toward you equipped with LED headlights will show flicker. If you were able to adjust the Cam's frame rate you could make the flicker stop (for the recording only,
the flicker will still be there)
Technically, it's a lot more involved then the "nutshell" information written here.

Finally Toyota decided to make a car which looks good inside and outside...A pillar pushed down that pushes down front windshield...might cause visibility limitations just like in the 2018 onwards camry windshield very low for better design

Just wish the wait time wasnt so long for the new one. In Ont, Canada wait time is over a year.
We ordered a (red), 2022 Prime, in 2022. Long, .........long, pause. In late March of 2024 a 2024, Pearl White model arrived. That's 21 months after we ordered. Our local Toyota dealer has a showroom the size of a hockey rink and for all of that wait period, their showroom was empty.
In the end though, we wound-up with the fifth Gen. (happy about that), and, it turns out we actually like the pearl paint better than the red. It's not white, it really is as if it came from an oyster. Love this car. Gas here is still $6.50 per gallon, and after 4,250+Km, we have consumed one tank of fuel. The car has been in Hybrid Mode just once for a highway trip. The EV range is plenty for our daily routines, our best "score" was 90Km on a single charge ! On the highway trip we saw 61.2mpg at 105kph.
The day we collected the car the Sales Rep. told us that were we to have placed an order on that day the wait would now be three years. Still not sure if he was kidding or not.
I’m sold on the 2023.
I only concern about waiting time.
Is driver seat Height same since Toyota has reduced the overall height by 2 inch?

Yes but I don't know how they still managed to increase the ground clearence by an inch , so even if you sit lower in the car it shouldn't make a big diffrence as the car is raised an inch from the ground.
I HAVE OWNED 2008 PRIUS & NOW 2010 PRIUS - BEING I AM 80 YEARS OLD.
I THINK 2022 WOULD BE EASIER FOR ME TO LEARN THE NEWER STUFF
MY 2010 PRIUS HAS EXTRAS LIKE HOME REARVIEW MIRROR BUTTONS, SUNROOF, & SILVER SIDE MOLDING, WHITE EXTERIOR, GREY INTERIOR, BUT I DON'T HARDLY USE ANY OF THE BELLS & WHISTLES, IT IS UNDER 18k MILES BUT IT IS TIME FOR A NEWER MODEL.
THE 2022 HAS A BETTER TRUNK AREA & THE EXTERIOR STYLING IS OKAY.
HOWEVER, 2023 IS A WOW, SLEEKER-LOOKING PRIUS---- BUT IT MIGHT OVERWHELM ME WITH SO MANY NEW ITEMS.
I AM NOT WANTING A PLUG-IN ANYTHING! SO NO PRIUS PRIME.
I DO NOT LIKE THE LOW-PROFILE TIRES ON THE 2023 & NOR THE PLACEMENT OF THE SHIFTER NOW ON THE DASH.
-- I'LL HAVE TO TRY DRIVING EACH THE 2022 & THE 2023 MODELS.
BUT THANK YOU FOR THIS COMPARISON, IS THE 2023 LONGER THEN 2022? I NEED 180' IN THE LENGTH.

I bought a 2022 Prius XLE in December and I am glad I did. I have NO issue with the amount of power in the ‘22 and I love the quirky looks. If I wanted a sharp looking sports car with 19” wheels, I wouldn’t have bought a Prius. The shocking reduction in cargo space in the ‘23 alone, is enough reason to steer me away from it and no thank you to the bumpy ride with those silly 19” wheels! I picked up 5 cubic foot freezer from Home Depot the other day and my ‘22 swallowed it up like a champ! The ‘23 model wouldn’t have had a prayer. I’m ECSTATIC to have the softer ride, I have 17” wheels, and more importantly the amazing utility of a hatchback with so much carrying capacity. The ‘23 doesn’t appeal to me, not even a little.
Are you still enjoying your 2022? I was on wait list for 2022 XLE and passed on one because the 2023 was just about to be released and I was afraid of regrets. Now I’m so upset. I’m mostly concerned about lower entryway and the fact that I heard 2023 needs premium gas to get decent mpg. Plus expensive 19” tires. I might have to get 2023 and trade it in when a future compact suv gets close to 50mpg. So disappointed.
Also do you find the softex seats in 2022 not very breathable? I’ve heard this has been an issue. Thanks!
Aww, man, sorry to hear that brother! Yes, my 2022 puts a smile on my face every day. I was willing to take anything that my dealer had incoming. I just happened to get an XLE. I didn’t necessarily want to spend XLE money but am glad now. The softex seats are great and can discern no added problems with the material not being breathable. I honestly couldn’t be happier but I do wish I could have gotten the standard 15” wheels. I’m just not a big tire/wheel guy. I prefer the softer ride and lower cost of 15” tires. I have since examined the 2023 model and am SO glad that I bought my 2022. I’ll never sell it. We’re actually waiting for a RAV4 hybrid to arrive for my wife. Same situation, have to buy whatever my dealership gets in their allocation.
@@andrewlee5948 Thank you for responding. I would get RAV 4 hybrid but it’s too big for me and I want better mpg. It’s killing me that I might have to buy a used 2022 at the same price as a new one. When I test drove 2020 the seats felt so comfortable and a really smooth ride. Anything would feel faster than my 2009. Oh well….I could live with 2023 until a compact SUV with better miles is made.

I love it but I will buy between 2019-2022 right now and upgrade later because they upgraded the Prius in 2017 when I had an 08 Prius and I like the look. I can wait 2 more years to get a 2023 for dirt cheap. I literally got my 2019 Camry for 15k out the door 20k Miles. I’ve seen the same with Prius plus it helps out to watch for potential recalls. But I know my full electric car will be that Ford Mustang Mach E

Coefficient of drag 0.27 can't be right, I would be way more worse than its predecessors !
Generation 4 had 0.24

So why would they make it worse instead of better ?

Just looking at the front of these two cars, the 2022 looks so outdated already. If anyone is looking for a new Prius, I think you just have to wait for the 23 to become available, especially if you're planning on driving it for the next 10, 15 years.

at 5:47, back of the 2022, black bumper thing at the bottom could flare less, like a human nostril, just flare inwards a bit. But it sticks true to its hybrid design that we all recognize as prius! Look at the 23, it has that red light across the back window, I'm saddened, it takes a lot out of the prius in design. It looks like a pontiac at the back end of the car, and I know nothing about cars its just the height and way it looks. And the way it says PRIUS at the bumber end, in all CAPS with huge spaces in between, I'm saddened...it reminds me of another car brand that does this, or more than one car brand, I've seen them on the road, I'm like yea yea, but PRIUS please don't hire some designer who does this same thing to our future generation of priuses.

The new Prius looks like junk. But I love the horsepower.
TBH, If I look at current Prius Prime and compare it to upcoming 2023 - man, older lights were so much nicer, these probably can't even turn off segments while using high beam and blind vehicles in opposite lanes.
Not to mention, the older lights could slightly rotate in turns.
In terms of styling and power it is a clear update (for Prime or HEV), but let's be honest, what current Prius owner cares for that.
I actually wouldn't mind it, especially having more power (electricity biased of course).
But I do also like practicality
I would be very surprised if it didn't have Matrix Headlights in Europe !
