- Today I'm taking you along as I evaluate the performance of my modded 2022 Toyota GR86 on the tracks of Spring Mountain in Pahrump, Nevada. Over the past few months, I've made several tweaks to the car and wanted to gauge its on-track behavior. By the end of this video, I also spend some time reflecting on the best types of cars for those keen on honing their driving skills on track. Let me know what you think of my on-track performance update with a comment below!

Man, can't believe I'm just finding this channel.. I've been tracking for 24 years( 100 plus events?) . I'm 44 now.. Eesh old.. I agree they let a lot more intermediate drivers into advance groups.. I think to spread things out where novice groups are so full. As long as they are safe... But when they are unpredictable and off line or telling you pass and speeding up in their Z06, it's unsafe. 24 years and honestly I still think I'm a novice.
9:30 Advice that applies for all areas of life
Oh wow this whole time i thought this was your only youtube channel. Whole time you're a doctor with a huge channel lmao. Love watching you content and i agree with everything you say. I want to eventually dive into the sports car world and see what's it's like and improve my skills as a driver in all aspects. Great video like always!
Thanks for watching!
Keep up the GR 86 content
More to come!
Agree 100%. Im a decent driver and want to get better. I almost bought a C7 Grandsport... but instead I got a 2023 BRZ and had lots of extra money for mods and track time.
That’s how to do it!
I'm in this very scenario; I love my c6 and just started autocrossing this year. But I feel the excess power and expensive consumables are two factors that will slow my ability to advance my skills and become more competitive. Hence I am considering a GR86 to replace the Corvette for the very reasons you mentioned in this video.
Wise man
Great, thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it!
You convinced me to get this car now.
You’ll love it
i'd love to experience this mannn
your life is so cool
Awesome driving! Is it recommended to downshift in sequence or is there a mechanical or technical reason? I don't track (yet) but around town I'm always rev matching and skipping gears when I downshift, like 5-3 or 4-2.
Both are fine. When driving it harder it’s generally easier to go one at a time
Going back on the rotors. Do you know if the rotors are actually warped or is there inconsistent pad build up? If it's the ladder (which I've seen more often), I would revisit your bed-in process and ensure that the bed in is perfect. And just generally keep in mind the different variables that could result in uneven heat on the rotors.
I initially thought it was pad build up but even after pad manufacturer bed in process + trying to wear off the pad buildup, it seems to be warped rotors
@@jubbalandcars Super interesting... If it's really a heat issue, have you tried the gt3 brake ducting that fits on the front lca? Just a cheap and easy way to get temps down so you can isolate and identify the source of the problem.
Is there a specific brand of camber bolt you recommend? Trying to add some negative camber for my next track day
Spc makes them and whilteline repackages the same.
I went with SPC
I would really like to see a comparison on the track with a BMW M2 or, for example, a Porsche Carrera
More track videos to come out soon!
@@jubbalandcars that's great, thanks I have a Subaru Brz 2022 but I'm curious how this car compares to other more expensive ones
From the looks of it, it looked like the base model porsche cayman S. Smaller displacement. Who knows. I could be wrong. 911 headlights are more circular where as the caymans kinda look more like the cayenne
I don’t think we included the footage of it. It was when I first got on the track and was in my mirror
what about the rtv issues? can you do something about it if your engine does explode? please answer because I really want to track my 86 but I use it as daily too
I do worry about it but it’s a risk I’m ok with tolerating right now
q: pros and cons of putting it in regular track mode vs trac and stability fully off for driving on track?
I like to explore the limits of the car without having traction control kick in and neuter the power. For drivers who are comfortable and familiar with oversteer, it can actually catch you off guard as you're beginning to correct and it cuts in unexpected and abruptly.
Guy in Hong Kong here, I've been looking into buying the GR86 for a recent few months to start learning to be better at driving something sporty-ish. Money is still on the tight end for a 20 year old student, but hearing that Toyota might discontinue the 86 makes me panic a bit, do you have any clues if they would stop producing them after 2024 or something?
I highly doubt they’ll stop producing them after 2024
@@jubbalandcars Yeah hopefully, and quite sad that our law here doesn't allow any modding, the wide-body kit looks sick af, you might wanna look it up ;)
You’re not the only one with warped rotors issues. Lol
If there's a straightforward solution I'd love to hear it
what mount do you use for the gopro with a helmet?
This was my first time testing out a new visor mount. Will have to find the name of it
@@jubbalandcars It truly provides brilliant view angle! very similar to the reverese cap position.. I mean mount but for track!
Careful with those grippy tires if you don't have a baffle plate, accusump and oil cooler.
even with all that still oil pressureissues
The fear is real
Which CSG pads are you using?
21 and 11
@@jubbalandcarsthanks. I started this year and BRZ has been amazing for me. I have been thinking about upgrading to CSG CP pads from the DS2500 I currently have. Camber is about the same as you with camber bolts and I am still on stock tires. Thinking about getting new 17x8 wheels and 225 4S tires.
I thought you was selling it? 🤔
Up in the air but planning to replace with an S2K
@@jubbalandcarswhat are your thoughts on NC2/NC3?
In short, drive like your Lewis Hamilton
😂
