I say she should just at times break the original melody structures and sing in this acoustic jazz approach. She has constantly pushed her voice to absolute limits in the studio all these years, it’s about time to scale back some high notes and focus on well-rounded vocal performance and vocal longevity for her, in my opinion of course.

For a normal approach that register doesn’t have anything to do with air and the chords need to be more closed than any normal register, the vocal chords don’t have big vibrations. Mariah just have diferents tessituras to her whistles and add vibrato on it because she actually have nodules which don’t allow her vocal chords to close properly and she can perfectly transition from Whistle to head and Mix without noticing. Nothing bellow M4 passagio is Whistle and whistles is not the only register that can be disconected. There’re people with natural airy voices and there’re people able to disconect their falsetto to their chest voices which is the same M3 passagio and musical term as Head voice.
