i use to never understand when it was just my thoughts or God trying to give me a clue in life haha when i finally sacrificed my will to God and asked him to give me discernment then there was absolutely no question when God was telling me to do something and believe you me, i absolutely knew it when i wasnt listening to that or wanted to believe that maybe it wasnt him haha. be careful what you ask God for because once he makes it clear to you what hes trying to say, theres no pretending you dont understand or running from that haha. you then have to buckle up and live your promise to obey God or you have to carry the guilt of knowing youre actively ignoring God. they say ignorance is bliss and i believe thats what they meant haha. its much easier some days to not know what God wants than it is to know and have to put on your big boy pants and go to work for God. i wouldnt change it and im thankful for my relationship with God i just wanted to share that thought and how if we really want to know what GOd is telling us to do, he'll make it so theres no confusing that or pretending to not understand haha. that discernment hits different on days when we're called to serve rather than receive! haha carry that cross brothers and sisters and praise God while you carry it because if he can be nailed to it and die on it for us, the least we can do is carry it for him and his will! thank you God for your gift of that cross and your son coming to pay for our sins. even though our debt is paid, thank you for every opportunity you give us to serve and put out thankfulness into form of action and service. the least i can do is carry a cross for the God thats willing to die on it for me, amen
Alot of married couples maybe shouldn't have gotten married immediately, but should have waited so that they would have already had a foundation to build upon. But they inatead went off of the reasoning of their local church and friends and themselves

I want to ask another question. How do we deal with God's silence? Sometimes I desperately want to hear, but all I get is nothing.
You aren't looking. lol. I prayed for a week. I live alone. Having problems with sound on TV. NONE. Then 2 young missionaries, approached me, as I was outside. I needed some help. I was too short, old, to get on a stool, to see knobs They figured it out! Praise Heavenly father.
You will not always get the clear, calm, and peace giving - commanding voice of The Holy Spirit. Learn to develop a close walk with The Lord, slowly over time.
Reach out to those you trust who have already lived a life that is “above reproach” (godly mentors)
Read His Word - daily
Pray- always
Link armor with those older and more stable in their faith journey of trusting and becoming a disciple (disciplined learner of Jesus)
Obey the Bible. Learn to praise Him in the storm and the calm.

Gods voice to me is the subtle utterence through nature,, the word, through children or God uses the wind for me personally. Satan's voice tends to be dictatorial and quite inflexible through lived experience.
My biggest shortcoming is that I become angry much too easily. Yahwh/Jesus are not angry voices, Satan, I think enjoys planting angry thoughts in my head.

It shouldn't be frightening. That said, a lot of people claim to "hear God's voice", and in my personal view, a dose of skepticism is always healthy. The false prophets mentioned in the NT undoubtedly thought they were hearing from God.

I look and see if a Pastor preaches like Jesus or like a political tool? Did Jesus preach love of others or call them demons? For example.

God's voice is very easy for me to discern , because it is quiet and sounds nothing like mine . My Father speaks to me almost every time I pray to Him . I cherish the times that I am praying to Him , I need to hear from Him . Praise Jesus Christ for saving a wretch like me ! God bless you all.
So you hear God say, “you’re a wretch” who doesn’t deserve his love…yet you talk to him anyway because you are desperate for his approval?. That has all the signs of an abusive relationship….Sadly, You can thank Christianity for that mindset…it’s entrenched in its doctrines of unworthiness causing you to believe you must cower and worship him

He doesn’t force anyone to worship him but I promise you we all worship something. He is the only one worthy of worship. I get the sense you don’t approve of the Bible or God based on your comment. My son, Luke, has told me that I am the devil. He said he knows this because God told him. I told him that the voice he heard was NOT God. He quoted, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me". He is convinced that there are people that want him dead and I am one of them. No telling him otherwise. He is no longer speaking to me and I don't know where he is. He is an alcoholic and at one time he was a Meth user, I don't know if he is still using that. My heart is broken over this. Please pray for him. His brain is so damaged.

You are not anything like he says. He has some mental disorder. Be careful, if he shows up. Protect yourself. Not in his right mind. He can be dangerous. SO SORRY....I am a mother too, with a daughter...not right.
Cathy, I am not a professional, but I am someone who has recovered from symptoms much like what you describe. I was diagnosed by several mental health professionals, all with a different diagnosis, but nevertheless, diagnosed with schizophrenia and psychosis. It turned out to be a spiritual attack; demonic oppression.
It wasn't until I learned to discern between the LORD's Voice (Written Word) and the enemy's (Voices in my head), that I was miraculously healed. It was only after deliverance that I began hearing God's audible voice.
Still, I am no prophet of God.
But I know this much, He does not speak to us audibly in the way that we hear with our ears; which is what your son is "hearing" or experiencing, as I was.
If and when the LORD speaks, the "Still Small Voice" of the LORD will be so familiar to your son, that he will naturally follow it. God's word NEVER returns void.
Remember, the enemy uses the word against us. He misquoted scripture to Jesus in the desert. He will often appear as an angel of light. But he is a LIAR.
Support your son. Continue to pray for his redemption and recovery. DO NOT fear him, but love him with Agapé love, the way our LORD has commanded.
One more note...
The voices in my head use to lead me astray, but they would condemn me for doing so. They would quote scripture, but always out of context. However, that is NOT how the Holy Spirit operates. He will convict us of sin, but never condemn us. He will never guide us into sin either.
Ask your son this one simple question.
Do you believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God?
If his answer is yes, then it is time to enlighten him.
The Word says, "He is not the God of confusion!" "Honor your mother and father!" "Be of sober mind!" "I came to give you life in abundance!" "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
Explain that God will never go against His word. To call your parents "of the devil", would be doing just that.
Lastly, I will pray for you and your son. And please remember, "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

I have a really hard time understanding what is being said here, it comes across like God is heard audibly. Especially when the pastor talks about his conversations. Please don't take things the wrong way but whenever I hear this type of preaching I feel broken and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Would it be more accurate to say that this is the Holy spirit working within you?
Based upon my experience, I think the question is, how much time do you spend praying, reading His word and just listening to God? The second question is how fast do you expect results? It took me about five years to develop that level of devotion and intimacy with God.
Yes, it's the Holy Spirit within you that speaks to us. Not saying hearing God audibly is possible...it's just very rare. 99.9 % of believers will never hear God audibly. With that said you do have to develop the ability to be silent and listen. Might I add that you should EXPECT Him to speak to you as well. Faith is vital in our walk with Him!!
