Warm, velvet like tone that is perfect for this piece. Full, but not too heavy and never harsh.

Leopold's music is somewhat overshadowed by his son
But as you can hear this music is so beautiful and needs more credit

An incredibly difficult piece, made to sound easy. We can discuss interpretation elsewhere, but this is a horn-master at work. Bravo! Lovely light sound, no fighting with the instrument evident. When you can just sit back and listen without a sweat breaking out on your own brow, if he's going to make it, then you know you've got something. like Dennis Brain way back then.

This is a brilliant example of the years during the transition from Baroque to Classical. I find the combining of styles totally homogenous unlike the Haydn concerti, in which some phrases are clearly classical and some lean on the Baroque. One of the mos beautiful things I have heard in a while. I would play it, if my range wasn't so bad :P

For our modern F horn it's a high D. For the ancient natural horn in A, which this music has been written for, it's a high F. In concert pitch it's a G. And it's played in a STUNNING way because he makes it feel like simple! :D

I’ve always loved the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and also some of his fathers compositions..too.
But when listening to horn concertos...in Mozart’s time....I’ve always favoured the original natural horn; as apposed to the more modern examples from the late 19th century. Even a modern authentic copy of a natural horn sounds slightly different to that of an original. It’s basically the same with all instruments.

It sounds like a horn with a brighter sound which is usually the norm for Classical works such as this, the W.A. Mozart horn concerti, etc., but this sounds absolutely nothing like a cornet.
