    actually getting into the world where people regularly call you and go "hey mate, compose us a score in two hours" is far more challenging than the actual composing, I've found

    Also love what you say Oliver about letting a piece flow. Sometimes I feel like a piece almost writes itself but we have to let it. This opens up lots of philosophical thoughts about does a piece exist before we write it, does it have a life of it's own and can it guide us as to where it wants to go. I made a piece called "Just Passing Through" as that's how it sometimes feels for me, like a piece is passing through me. Hope at least some of that makes sense

      @sejtaridiss Před 4 lety +5

      @@octoberphoenix Well... I don't know about your perception guys, but most music for media nowadays is "random chords" - ambientish, pad stuff beneath a picture, that's the trend I supose. Working with a timbre is as important now as with melody or harmony.
      And from my experience, working with directors: when asked to "get rid of voices" - usually that would translate to changing aformentioned timber/sound, not harmonic structure or deleting whole MIDI information. Usually it just means changing a preset or VSTi :) Besides - who's making final tracks with just a piano?
      And when a cue lacks melody/beat/overall compositional changes - director will simply ask for it. But he/she will rarely do so, as everybody wants very little distraction from the actors now. I don't like it, but hey - less work to do than.
      Oliver did a decent job, would work perfectly in some Netflix or HBO series as a filler in some scene :)
