I've never grown bamboo. I think I'll give it a try. It is pretty warm here in TN, so it should be fine. Thanks for the information.

I'm in TN. In may my husband brought home 2 sticks of bamboo. I planted them not thinking it would do much - by the first freeze we had shoots popping up 11' away. By the following spring they had taken over the entire side of our backyard.

The fastest-growing plant I have in my yard is Lovage. sometimes a foot in a day. when it starts out in the spring, it can double in size overnight. It has grown 9 feet since it broke ground 2 months ago. Native bees flock to it as well as honeybees. Seeds are similar to Fennel, leaves taste like celery. stems are hollow and can be used as straws or homes for native bees after dried.

kelps are not really plants, they are algae.

sir as far as we know at this stage, land plants (Embryophyte) seem to have diverged from Charophyta (green algae). So I guess you could say that plants are a type of algae, very loosely of course. :P

Is there a bamboo that is good for privacy? Or do you recommend anything to use as a privacy fence? Located in Southern Ohio.
    Thanks so much for sharing.
