Nice review. This is my most replayed game of all time- as a kid I would often get halfway through the game and then take a break. Then when I would come back, I would start over again. It's my favorite Digimon game, even though it has So many flaws. The backtracking and terrible fast travel systems are so painfull.. But there's so much god dang Charm with the sprites, environments, and music to where I forgive all of the headaches. I really want to see a new Digimon game that has this level of detail in its environments and world. Also bring back the dw3 Digimon.. I love Monmon, Bearmon, and Kotemon.

When I was a kid, we only had a ps2, and it felt like I was always on the lookout for a mythical ps1 memory card so I could finally see the end of Digimon World 3, and Mega Man Legends. I was shocked when a friend casually gave me one, since he no longer used his ps1.
You cannot depend on Save States. You absolutely have to depend on Guardromon. I know it sucks, but that's the most surefire way you can be assured of not losing your progress. Save states are not designed to protect game data for prolonged time periods. The reason for this, I don't know, but that's the way emulators work.
Not to mention that the game is one of the few PS1 games where you can see the RAM getting full and the game becomes frozen if you play it on an emulator,something that doesn't happen with the others Digimon World games on the console nor emulator. Try to play Digimon World 3 with Save States. When you reach the Second Leader battle,the game starts to do random shit to keep up like making all the parts painted on Blue of the Menus into Brown and the Font changes from White to Gray but eventually,when you go back to Asuka City,you start to see those Loading Blocks blocking your vision and when you try to load another room,the game crashes as it has spend all those 2MB RAM the console has. That's the reason if you see an Speedrunner saving from time to time,putting those Guardomon's saves as the stamp points and I think not even playing on a PS2,which has 32 MB,saves you from that error.
I absolutely love Digimon World 3. Though I hope one day this game gets remade or remastered, especially with the PAL version's added gameplay, along with some quality of life changes to make the game less grindy, and a better way to quick travel between places. It would've been nice to have a post game after finishing the game, and face off against the Amaterasu's new leaders and such.
I feel the same way. If there were some way to port it over or remaster it I'd totally be on board. I do also hate that the end game was cut from the US version like facing of the against the new leaders. Though the one thing that scares me about a remake is the soundtrack and overworld artstyle. I really feel that's what makes DMW3 the low polygonal Digimon, the 2d Overworld and the atmospheric soundtrack. But that's just me. Thanks for commenting bud! 😁

I beat it on my original ps one back when I was 12years old. Now im 32 and have my own family.

One of my all time favourite Games, even now I rebought it so I can replay it. I know a lot of Fans did not like the grinding or the backtracking but as a kid I didn't mind and as a adult I still enjoy it. I'm currently replaying this Game to do everything because as a child I raved through a lot of content.
Also the Gard Game is addictive and sometimes I have to force myself to play the main plot because of it.
Happy to see a proper lengthy review of this game as it’s one of my favorites. Next time you do a play through for me personally it was a lot of fun to dive deep into the card game.

I just recently Modded my switch and put Retroarch on it and DMW3 actually works on it it's incredible!

It was a great game for its time, that said I will be forever sad that the USA version stripped all the post-game content.

This review gave me so much nostalgia, it was the only game I played on my ps2 when I was younger, and it fuelled my love for digimon and Pokemon. I hope they make a game in the same type of map as this game
I was pretty much the same way. Although I have kinda lost touch with Pokemon this game has reignited my love for the Digimon series. Another game like this or even a remake or rerelease would be sick! Thanks for your comment!

This game does have a lot of issues, but it's still really fun. Still, I do wish there was something like a repel there. And a way to fast travel, at least between cities or so, because the backtracking can be quite awful.

Back then its a gem animation, now its still in my eyes. Game sounds are also at top.
Love the review but can you do something for the audio? It spikes a lot and headphone users like myself would need a new set of ears after watching your videos.

I really like how in-depth you went with everything but I do have to cap you in one region. I don’t think that the level above Mega is referred to as Ultra, maybe it has been but from what I’ve seen its referred to as Super Mega, Burst Mode, for just Mega again. The Digimon nerd in me couldn’t let it go, good video though!

I coulda swore when I bought the cards as a kid they said Ultra. Granted, I never got big into Digimon, but I did get a few packs as a kid and I remember seeing Ultra

Turning oinkmon back after beating MAGAMI presidend is optional. You can go straight to asuka admin to continue the story.
You can rename digimon by talking to Sepikmon some time after getting Submarinemon.
While there's standard EXP value that levels up your rookie digimon's level, evolutions use a hidden value called EV EXP. Enemies that give the most EXP won't always give the most EV EXP (BK Scorpionmon being the best EV EXP enemy, while some form of numemon being the best for EXP).

The thing that frustrates me the most about the game is that finishing it is just game over unless you have the PAL version, which means that in order to complete all of the side quests, legendary weapons acquisitions, and leveling up, you have to do that before you start the chain of events that leads to the everyone becoming Oinkmon and the final battle. I really wish they had fixed that before releasing the game to the U.S. Otherwise, great game despite the grind, and I have to agree that some of the music is just fantastic!

Favorite game of all time. I've probably beaten it close to 10 times total, probably somewhere around 500 hours total. I like letting a few years go by or enough time to forget most of the game and then running through it again... but at this point I just think I have it permanently memorized lol the grindiest of grinds was the amaterasu numemom to get diaboromon, it took me forever
Dammmm honestly Ive never really gotten any other Ultras beside Imperialdramon PM. Every time I've played my mons were at max level 40 sporting their Final Mega forms. I have heard tho that the PAL Version has an endgame wherein you could battle Kurt and the other Amaterasu Leaders. Thanks for commenting! 👍

Oh man, I really need to learn how to speed run this game. The backtracking makes it prohibitively long for me to play. Always make it to byakko city before some BS comes up and I have to abandon the run.
There is an out of bounds glitch I've seen in the very beginning of the game. If you're doing Any% then I'd check that out. Otherwise using Guilmon for setup fodder might be an effective method as he gains lots of setup moves.
Pretty interesting review though some parts killed both of my ears since you're talking kinda quiet and suddenly some noisy memes appear. Other than that good job. xD

If ANYONE thought DW3 looked like 🐕💩...Id be so upset lol, its such a nice game. Im not much of a 2d fan but even I must say the pixel-art is beautiful; (in fact it changed my view on pixel-art years back). With the fun effects out there like Reshade and upscaling (Magpie FSR) you can make this nice looking game into something better (that is if one felt this game look meh before time). I simply love this game; fun story and great art.
I’m trying to enjoy this but all that yelling at the start is killing my soul.
