  • I've had this Kodiak Canvas Flex Bow 10x14 Deluxe for 4 years at the time of the video. I've taken it on various Mule Deer, Whitetail, and Coues hunts across 5 states, totaling 50+ nights of use. These are my thoughts thus far. Check out my hunt videos to see the tent in action.

great tent, had mine for over 10 years and just took it on another trip to RMNP and its such a solid tent! It breathes so well, so solid in storms, so water proof...it's truly a home away from home! It's also the max size for most campground tent pads but man it's like a palace inside!

The best canvas tent out there! I’ve had my 10x14 deluxe for about 6 years and love it. I put a stove jack in mine, and run a small wood stove. Great vid! 👍🏼

You jack the side I assume, not the ceiling? A wood stove seems like it would certainly elevate the rustic vibe versus propane, and pump off more heat. The buddy heater is just so convenient. Thanks for watching again Garald 👍🏼

I think I have watched pretty much all reviews on this tent and must say, this was down and dirty the most straight forward, to the point one I have seen yet. Living in Louisiana my main concern with this tent is the setup to dry it out throughouly after use. I would keep it in the house in my gear room, however. I have also been considering the North Face Wiwonna but for few dollars more the Kodiak really makes the decision a tough one.....mold being my primary consideration. BTW, before I lost my wife to Covid back in 2020, we would spend a month on the road fly fishing. We spent a lot of time around the Mackay area. I love Copper Basin. Did a float on the Snake as a bucket list item and it was worth every single penny of it. Idaho is such an incredible state. If I were still young I would move there in a heartbeat. The people are so down to earth. The Idaho legislature needs to pass a law that no one west of Idaho can move there...just kidding or course.

Very good. I sold my camper, bought a Gazelle T4 that I really like. But, for longer trips like my January mule deer hunt this year, I’m thinking of getting one of these.

I have the same tent and absolutely love it. I would like to eventually add a stove jack to it.
I would like to mention that I have never had to step on the sides of the tent in order to set it up. I do however kneel on the edge instead. Keeps the mud and dirt off.

Hint? When it rains angle the awning to one side - - Hint 2? You don't have to stand on the tent - - I lived in my Kodiak for 5 years as a camp manager, rain, snow, wind. it held up wonderful.

If you got 2 sets of XL Disco-bed bunk bed cots and put them on each end, you could sleep 4 guys and still have tons of space in the middle. We have the 9x12 with the 8x8 porch and absolutely love it!

Kodiak 10x10 VX was my first Canvas tent after having so many synthetic mountaineering tents. Totally fell in love with canvas tents.
The best thing I did was sew in a stove jack and bought a Winnerwell wood stove. Totally changed tent camping.
I'm not gonna say Kodiak makes a bad tent. I still have mine and it's seen severe weather. 40-50 mph winds and heavy snow with no issues. I honestly thought the thing wont last the night. But damn, that tent held up great.
That said, I've since bought a Springbar,, the customer service, the canvas used is better in my opinion, Made in America... I could see a difference.
Now.. Is it worth the cost difference? That's a subjective question.
If you use it trip after trip after trip, I think so.
If its one week a year, maybe save your money and spend it on the gas to go someplace.
Todd, I think your point of view, and the set up tutorial is spot on about this tent.
    Two thumbs up!!
You guys are the common representation of the people who use this stuff.
But man,, get a wood stove and pitch the Mr. Buddy! I promise you won't regret it.
    Cheers

Thanks for the detailed insight Jeffrey. When this tent dies I’ll peek at Made in USA options, but not likely before then. I’ll likely install a jack and switch to wood burning this year. I know for certain you can’t beat it for the feel of coziness.

Are you letting the heater run all night? If so about how long does a 20 pound propane tank last? Going out of state this year and trying to figure out how to stay warm besides just my sleeping bag.

    • @toddharney
      @toddharney  Před rokem +3

I’ve gone 7 nights running all night on low, plus using the same tank to cook and still didn’t run out. They don’t use much fuel.

I got same tent about 15 yrs ago. Big buddy and 20 lb propane will go 10 nights with some to spare. Nighttime temps in single digits, teens and twenties. Zero degree bag and wear long undies. Gatorade bottle nearby and big buddy within arms reach of cot. Keep the pilot light on at night so I can crank up the heat in the morning.
