- Come along with me as we explore the history of Dutch horses and visit a very special dutch horse and her owner. During this filming, I utilized a three camera set-up and soon discovered that working with a live animal, that I could not direct, was very challenging. A steel gray dutch warmblood stallion was the first horse i fell in love with. He was huge, and not handleable, with a wicked bad temperament. He belonged to a novice rider who was scared stiff of him. She was selling really cheap.
I though it best to pass him by though. My thoughts had been to buy him and take a sabbatical for a few months, as i figured what he needed was long time one on one, training him in the water to slow him down and gain his trust, and just walking him a hell of a lot in company.
I kick myself now and then that i didnt take up that challenge, and i wonder what became of him. Worried a bit as he had been seperated from the stables other horses for anti-social behaviour, and being generally gregarious animals that just aint right. I felt he needed to get some respect and and learn to give a little, thats all.
Ha. He probably may have killed me though. I was pretty sure his demeanor wasnt his fault. (i was told he'd seriously hurt the owner prior to the novice.very seriously.
Strangely, my intuition was that hed just been misunderstood, and parted with that owner on bad terms and the horse didnt know why.
Are they a particularly high maintenance breed for emotional attention and companioship?
Its about 10years now since i passed him by, and i cant help thinking of that fella.

Do you breed your horses there for sale? If yes, this year, I'd like a Stallion anywhere from 2-4 years old but I don't want his mane ever trimmed. I want it long. He will be used used for riding, some dressage and pulling my buggy that's why I don't want his mane trimmed. Thank You Joseph
Hello Joseph, I do not breed horses. This horse belongs to my pastor.
You mispronounced the word, Dressage, "DRES" + "aazh" several times and the word is pronounced "loins", the anatomy part of a horse, not "lions".
