- The 1990 Donegal International Rally was a truly classic event in which local Opel Manta driver, Vincent Bonner put it up to the championship contenders, Bertie Fisher and Austin McHale in their BMW M3s as a three-way battle for the lead developed. Jimmy McRae, who was unable to start the event was drafted in to give a unique stage side commentary on his rivals and the in-car footage from McHale (who won the event by one second from Fisher) in the Xtra-vision M3 gives us a driver’s eye view of some of Irelands most challenging stages, including Knockalla. Reporters: Alan Tyndall & Gary Gillespie.
The Golden age of Irish rallying. Thanks to the RIAC for buying the archive and sharing it with us.
Magic days & brilliant memories
Bertie was quicker over the Stages..but stopped in between the last 2 stages to change tyres and got 10sec road penalty. ..No body begrudged Austin his win👏👏 he held his nerve well that year after many accidents on the Rally Before that....Vince Bonner gave us Group B Enthusiasts a weekend of the great sight & sound's of the Manta 400 what an effort to stay with the now fully developed BMW M3's..and a year later he gave his final attempt at his home international Bringing that Manta home 3rd only passed my Jimmy Mcrae & James Cullen's Great drive in more powerful Cosworts with turbos...Thanks Vince for the Memories 31 years have passed were still longing for them great days🏁👏😢😢@🎉paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s Cork
