  • After an all-time classic in 1996, the 1997 running of the Donegal International Rally was a slightly less dramatic affair. Austin McHale was to take a relatively comfortable win ahead of Paul Harris, wrapping up his fourth Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title as the field behind self-destructed, with 1996 victor Andrew Nesbitt leaving the road on day two while local hero James Cullen retired with transmission difficulties.

Hello Motorsport Ireland, how come there were Escort MKiis in this event? As it was an international wouldn't all cars require FiA homologation?
