In February 2019, Southern Pacific 4-6-0 steam locomotive #18 was fired up for the Winter Photographer's Weekend on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. The locomotive ran twice during the event, including a major snowstorm on the last day.

I find it interesting how they have a small SP narrow gauge locomotive that uses to work in the hot, flat desserts of California is now pulling trains through the snowy, rocky mountains of Colorado...AMAZING!
Fantastic show and the Princess showed how tough she is. Congratulations
From Chile, I say:
Thank you very much for the beautiful video.
Thank you very much for all the work.
Benefited new year 2020.
Thanks for uploading these wonderful videos! I enjoy everyone watching. The steam train was, is and remains in my opinion something special and fascinating. This video with the beautiful snow landscape is so great again. Thanks and best regards from Vienna (Austria).
Im absolutely blown away, this is easily one of my favorite videos ever now. No.18 looks so at home on the D&S it looks like its still the late 20's in some shots. I hope she can run on the C&T soon as well. Thank you so much for this video.
Southern Pacific 18 Feels at home at The Durango And Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway
Didn’t know the southern pacific ran narrow gauge we’ll learn new things every day
Yeah they ran a narrow gauge branch line into the 60s!
Exciting snow footage with the Southern Pacific 4-6-0 putting up a storming performance in really tough conditions. Well done to all concerned for putting on and running the whole show. Well done to you too for braving the worst of conditions! Best wishes from Ken in Scotland, UK.
One of the best of snow scenes I have seen in a long time . Keep up the good work and I long to see even more so that other people can see what the railroad had to do in the "good ol' days " .
She is a REAL princess (a movie star). Great scenery, excellent photography. The D&S has a real money maker there. It'll be interesting to see the 493 when she is complete. I hope the 18 comes back to visit often.
Wow fantastic! !! ❄❄❄🚂😍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👋
Wow the train is awesome
This is a childhood dream come true. Thank you to everyone who made it happen
This is beautiful !
With the beautiful little 4-6-0 “Ten-Wheeler” steam locomotive #18.
#18 is another of my favorite steam locomotives.
Thanks for wonderful video.
This is about a cool as it gets. Great video showcasing a great old lady with beautiful, graceful lines.
The trains are beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent shots of a beautiful locomotive in such difficult conditions. Here in the UK every thing stops after 3 flakes of snow!
Wow, great locations. Thanks for taking the trouble to walk out to get these images. Once more the exposure in snow is perfect.
It is great to see SP 18 running, especially in the snow. I just missed seeing SP Owens Valley in operation. SP's Mina Branch saw lots of snow in the winter time especially over Montgomery Pass in Nevada. Looking forward to the DVD.
Gorgeous scenery!
One of the most beautiful railways in the world, for me. Thanks very much. Excellent vid work as well.
I love this video....
Heart achingly beautiful!
Great video o#18. Doing a fine job.
When u travel by the railways and the line goes up a hill then you hear the engine sings this little song I think I can,I think I can and so it goes along.
It all looks like fairytale. Love it. Thanks for 💕😍 sharing.
Nothing duplicates that sound.
Really nice professional crossing signal chime at 00:44. Well recorded, thank you!
Awesome, cant wait for the dvd
Good day to be close to the firebox. 🔥
Very nice
Lil Girl is a long way from home, but getting to stretch her legs in style! Beautiful video - thank you for sharing! ❤❤
At 1:36 if that's not a Christmas postcard picture I don't know what is.
all the scenes are postcard worthy!
You have that absolutely right.
It does get anymore western than this...
That whole video is just Beautiful , Thank you for that!
Very nice I love to view more often.
Southern Pacific. Superb
AWESOMENESS!
I LOVE STEAM TRAINS! :-D
It's appropriate, since the event that eventually ended the Southern Pacific Railroad was when the D&RG ran out of money building a branch line to the mining town of Creede.
Great to see that lovely engine doing it's thing!
I can only wish I was there a beautiful Wonderland of snow
How beautiful. 4 thumbs up
👍Nice! Thank you.
Another winner as always!
Beautiful invention.
1:12 great weather for a nostalgic train ride.
Shades of the Orient Express.
Wow, great video!!
Southern Pacific steamer? On Colorado Narrow gauge?? Ya know, she surprisingly seems at home there.
Finally, an operating 10 wheeler in steam. We're waiting forever for the RGS 20 to come back on line. Quartering sounds good; even cylinder chuffs. I don't think that mighty whistle came with the 18. I remember seeing the 18 in a park in Independence as early as 1962. With this cool weather, I wonder if they heat the bilge oil they use in this engine. Yes, great video coverage.
Looked at her sitting there on many trips on the 395 and thought...what if. Great job to all involved. Now a #9 double header? 😁
Huckleberry RR No 2 (152) and East Tennessee & Western North Carolina RR No 12 are both 4-6-0s on 3-foot gauge and have been running in tourist service longer than No 18 has been rebuilt. The only real difference between No 2 and No 12 is one inch of driver diameter and about one year between being built, No 2 in 1919 and No 12 in 1920.
Very nice! I pushed like 👍👍👍
Greetings from Tokyo Japan :-)
People who dislike this should consult a doctor!!
Great vidéo !
The whistle sounds a lot like 481. Great video!
Magnifique . . .
Is there any noise creepier but more stunning than a whistle echoing in the distance? Even a K5LA too. That distant howl echo.
WOW WOW WOW!
Impresionante!!
Excelente video, saludos.
Belíssimas imagens!
Was that SP boxcar (the first freight car) part of the lease?
I bet this is the hardest that loco has worked in a long time. Also, it seems as though the nose is hunting side to side.
so cool but in the USA there aren't too many 3 foot gauges around
I still think the line between Chama & Durango needs to be rebuilt!
then rebuild the other line to Farmington, NM!!
And rebiuld the Rio Grande Southern!!
wow is all i can say.
Dope 👍
So if I'm correct sp 18 stayed in Colorado from fall 2018 to fall 2019??????

What a Beauty I'm in love....
@5:15 unbelievable shot
5:00 is that a frozen camera man in the snow bank?
First I saw a Tripod then a Jacket in the snow then the Jacket sat up and had glasses on ..
@@mikeskidmore6754 YEP, That's me. Snow was too deep to get further away.

Reportedly this was to familiarize D&S crews with oil-firing, which they are transitioning to, to reduce risk of further trackside fires. Now to tell them that a leaner (less oil/ more air) fire would be hotter, generating more steam, less pollution. Learning is on a curve.
I forgot to ask
What kind of fuel does this loco run on?
You know the spirits of the engineers & conductors are happy to see this loco run again
She burns oil
They use diesel or fuel oil instead of bunker C which I understand is not made anymore. It originally burned bunker C as fuel because it was cheap. Diesel is very easy to get and handle.
@@royreynolds108 Bunker C I think was used on those UP Turbines "Big Blow" locos!

QUAL A ROTA FEITA POR ESTE TREM
Infelizmente aqui no Brasil 🇧🇷 acabou não há mais ferrovias 🚞 de passageiros
Will there be s 4k Bluray?
Blu-ray, not 4k
Nice video but I am saddened to see this historical steam engine burning oil. It should have remained coal or even wood but never oil.
I was under the impression that #18 was originally built as an oil burner for the N-C-O. What makes you think it wasn't?
@@Steamtrainvideos She was built and oil fired engine
ohm myyyyyyy.
Το βίντεο είναι τέλειο
Isn't this the locomotive that had a shattered piston?
Yes. A piston is relatively easy to machine and replace.
This reminds me Russian fairy tales
It looks like she's leaking steam.
It bothers me a lot that the train driver operates the horn.
I can not hear the noise of the train.
Excuse me, but this loco does not have a horn. It has a whistle. The Chinese Railways fitted horns as well as whistles to their locos.
Based on recent events and the public beginning to dislike the railroad, it would most likely result in the railroad replacing their locomotives fuel from coal to oil. Also, they would purchase new diesel locomotives. All these things will ruin the authenticity and historical value of the railroad.
