    Its a case of "its not you its me". I struggled with finding the sweet spot in trying both guises as a Hammock and Tent. I really wanted this set up to work, but like yourself found frustration. I ended up not being able to zip it closed properly and ended up with a faceful of spring showers. At the time I ended up feeling like it was my first time in not in getting it up. Almost akin to did I miss something, am I doing it right, is this worth the money. Well someone had to take one for the team and hand over dosh for it. My second time on the floor with it was equally frustrating, but I had to give it a go. They say a fool and their money is easily parted. So folks watch all the vids and find your consenscious, and maybe you wont feel the fool.
    A good honest vid JB. Thats why we value you. Integrity matters

    I have the same one over a year. They are perfectt for stealthcamping, specially in an unknown location, so you can choose at the location if you need a hammock or a bivvy. The top works fine for me. You have to pull it thight on the straps, but that's not a problem. I never put my rucksack in my hammock, Also not in this one. I hang it to a tree trunk like 10cm from the ground on a paracord and use my raincoat to keep it dry.
    By the way, a onetigris underquilt suits perfect.
    I had a lot of fun and comfortable adventures in this hammock. For that price and the multi use, it is great stealth camping gear

    The hammock itself needs to be much tighter and I am sure your review would change. Being 6 foot 2, I was able to put a 70L waterproof backpack at my feet and still have room. Overall, this hammock is a great choice in my opinion. I agree with the rain cover statement, I find it quite pointless unless you want an extra layer while winter camping. Also, the pro version, which is a bit bigger than the normal one.

    making items like these is a decent marketing opportunity for any company looking to get into a growing "hobby". a lot of kit on sale is just fashion, you only need a basha and a decent hammock or tent. The amount of tackle now "required" to be outdoors is crazy! no wonder car camping is coming back into vogue, only way to carry all the kit!. Interesting viewing and thanks for sharing mate. meeeeeeaow

    I am a hammock "virgin", not liking the saggy posture, but was intrigued by the NightCat Lay Flat hammock/bivvy tent (not this model). Have yet to use it as a hammock, so time yet to tell: as a bivvy, it was great but could do with being a little longer and wider...I am 6'4"

    • @frogmaster83
      @frogmaster83  Před 5 měsíci

      That is an issue with many hammocks and tents. Most are made in China and the average "local" is smaller than us.

    I can see a market for this design if implemented well. The problem with this is clearly that the hammock itself is too small, rather like some of the cheapest ones online tend to be. Most experienced hammock campers on CZcams recommend a hammock length of 11 feet or so. There's no extra gear storage with this either (unlike their new bridge hammock design) so that is an obvious issue too. (I seem to recall DD Hammock producing something like this design years ago?)
    I get the fact that your preference is large tarp for a roomy admin space but not everyone needs that. For example, this type of design might suit a thru-hiking adventure so that you have the backup option of a ground bivvy tent when there are no trees, as well as the convenience of having a single pack to carry instead of multiple pieces. You can also create awnings with the rectangular doors of these designs/
    This type of design could also be useful for winter due to the fact many hammock campers need to carry extra gear. The snugpak cocoon is one example. Or one of those fully enclosed tarp tents being another. This hammock tent design will help keep harsh winds at bay.
    All this really needs is more competition from makers of high quality gear to produce something light, comfortable, and practical enough to make it a winner. Just my humble counter-opinion/thoughts.

      @frogmaster83  Před 10 měsíci

    Good and fair assessment, lots of points to justify what you say. Why would you have the cover AND a tarp and as you point out, without the tarp, no dry area.... I wonder if Night Cat can answer that issue?

      Depends on location and time of year. DD XL is great in the summer because of the space and bug net. Winter I favour my little Solognac because the underblanket completely covers it. Napsack pocket hammock if space is short.
