Although I'm not too familiar with Gill's own material, he has always impressed me with his live performances. He totally nailed the Beach Boys "The Warmth of the Sun" at Brian Wilson's tribute concert, was handpicked by Clapton to perform at several of his Crossroads concerts and he totally saved the Eagles from potential disaster by joining the group after Glenn Frey's passing. Highly underrated performer.

Instead of putting Vince down because he doesn't know the song - which he obviously learns by the end of the three minutes, pro that he is - let's give Slowhand credit for putting an otherwise ordinary series of chords together into a truly unique and now classic blues number. There may be younger faster guitarists - but there's no one alive today who's better at writing, singing, and playing the guitar - especially the blues.

Yea, this reminds me when Eric & I used to jam. I was the one who first showed him how to play an E chord. We both had these Sears amps which were the bomb back then in the 60's. There was this young black guy there too at this one jam and when he couldn't get his E chord right, he put lighter fluid on his guitar and lit it on fire. Then he turned it all the way up and did his whammy bar. Luckily he wasn't plugged into my Sears Amp. Man, that was sumpthin else.

I must say, I expected more from this.
Plus: This tune is older than Clapton, and he has managed to make it his own (since the "Derek and the Dominoes" LP), no small feat, all props.
Plus: Gill gets 8 bars of solo, and it's sublime, and impressive but not surprising... He grew up listening to Clapton, so he knows who he's in front of, and he takes a better solo, technically, than EC could.
Plus: EC is playing without a pick, and I don't know that I've ever seen that before.
Plus: The audience claps on '2' and '4,' so they're swingin' whether they know it or not.
Minus: It should have been just the two of them, just Clapton and Gill, and they should have goosed each other into a Nirvanic Coma...
    ...but they didn't.
(Still cool to have them both on the same stage.)

tuxguys EC plays without a pick most of the he plays acoustic. Yes truly not his strength. When EC plays this electric he rips it up and has a nice solo. Can’t say I have ever been impressed with VG playing I think of him more of a vocalist.
