  • This is just a part of my knowledge about firm staccato but you can get much more in my online lessons.Feel free to visit my website lessons.shonertacademy.com/ shonertacademy.com/ All my students have got a very good firm staccato using my method
I don't teach only firm staccato, but how to improve general technique of the right hand and sound production using the most difficult stroke like firm staccato.
I offer the violin lessons in person and on line using the unique method "The Shonert Technique", which is effective for students from 8 to 65 years old.
The prestigious British magazine The Strad wrote about Alexander Shonert: “It is admirable that he is willing to use his own phenomenal playing ability to illustrate his theories, and to share his skill with colleagues in an open fashion.”
He also explains the basics of his methodology in his book“Advanced Violin Techniques, Vol. I”, which you can order on his web-site: shonertacademy.com/buy-book/
. "Firstly, you need to understand yourself and then to teach your hands".

Thanks Maestro. This set me on the right path with the appropriate wrist motion. However for me to get enough bite in the string and not tighten up, I actually rotate my forearm a bit (pronated more) and my first finger actually contacts the bow almost at its base. I’m virtually doing a Russian bow grip at this point. It does allow me to really dig in and stay relaxed. I’m sure that’s not the only way to do it, but it works for me.
I’m able to get 16th notes clearly at 108, and I’m sure with a few more weeks of coordination it will get more hora staccato tempo.
Edit: able to get to hora staccato tempo now, had to rehair my bow - it just would not give me the grip I need to clearly articulate the 16ths at 120. A dark rosin also helped tremendously.

While there may be limited use of firm staccato in the literature, what you gain by learning it with Maestro Shonert's approach will have a major impact on the rest of your playing, as it has with mine. If you really want to improve your playing, please contact him. I have been taking lessons from him for 2 years and continue to learn more and more.

In my method "The Shonert technique" the training of firm staccato is only an irresistible stage for mastering the whole technique of the right hand. On the example of this stroke I learn to control my muscles, emotions and consciousness, and the firm staccato fits for it best of all. I dare repeat: the possession of this complex stroke will help in achieving the main goal to master the whole technique of the right hand. My staccato method is just the tip of the iceberg. I explain the basics of my methodology in my book" How to learn the firm staccato up and down for 3 lessons", which you can order on my web-site: shonertacademy.com/buy-book/
It is clear that there are the things that can be explained only by personal contact with the student. That is why in addition to the book I offer master classes and on line lessons. I help to remove the limits that many people create in their own heads. These very limits that very often create the problems for the performer and prevent him\or her from reaching a new level. "Firstly, you need to understand yourself and then to teach your hands".

Hi Maestro. Is it the quality of the bow that gives you possibility to do spiccato like you do through the whole bow? Because there are bows that are not that good and bounce/jump poorly, that will in a way will give you a hard time doing it right.
