    My sleep apnea was cured in about 6 months after going carnivore. I don’t have to use my CPAP machine anymore!

      I hope you both had a repeat sleep study that confirmed that. I stopped snoring and lost 80 lb, but I'm glad I had a repeat study. NO CHANGE in the number of apneas and hypoapneas! So I use my CPAP.

      @@ellek6505 I have a repeat scheduled… my sleep quality was very poor with my CPAP on and hence I decided to try a night without it… and slept great with no fatigue and daytime sleepiness (which I had when I was initially diagnosed with sleep apnea and I have used my CPAP machine faithfully for 12 years).

      I went carnivore and no more apnea or reflux. I had untreatable severe apnea for years - even the apnea test gave me a 4-month sinus infection.

      It’s so promising. I have mild sleep apnea but can’t stand CPAP. Hoping that going carnivore it will help. Not going to repeat the sleep study again since it was very torturous….

    Let's remember those spouses who suffer alongside their spouse with sleep apnea. I spent years sleeping on the couch because my husband would take off his mask overnight or refuse to wear it all together, otherwise I was subjected to his snoring. It was challenging BUT I never smothered him with a pillow. Your welcome, dear. 😂

      I won't stay over at my gfs because her snoring is too much even if I wear earplugs.
      I'd love to live together and have a proper relationship but I'm not sacrificing sleep. Giving up on vital needs like sleep is a hard no.
      When I raise the issue she gets mad and denies the problem. I'm considering finishing it because of this

    This is HUGELY missed by the medical profession.
    At the age of 45, non-smoker, non-drinker, casual bodybuilder, lean, BMI of ~23 I was waking up with terrible headaches, night sweats, terrible brain fog.
    All kinds of blood work - and it all came back excellent. My PCP literally said I was the healthiest sick person he'd ever met (if my ex hadn't been confirming some of what I said ...).
    "There's a new sleep clinic, I can book you in there ... but you DON'T fit the profile at all".
    So I went - and the diagnosis was severe sleep apnea (to the point of life threatening) caused initially by a congenital airway narrowing. The respirologist was surprised that I wasn't 300 pounds and that I could function at all.
    Rare? Apparently NOT, just uncommon. Sleep apnea has a genetic component - it runs if families, especially the male side. If a family member (including cousins) has sleep apnea and you have any suspicions - get checked.

      I knew someone with narrowed ear canals (constant ear infxs as a baby n toddler n kid) n airways
      He also was heavy
      He died several times a night, kid u not
      Every single night
      He had a cpap n then lost his ins so once it broke, no more cpap
      He could sleep 17-19 hrs a day, day after day
      He got no rest

      I’ve had it for decades
      I was slim when it started in my early 20s, just heavy snoring
      Since I got heavy then drs just told me to lost wgt the rare times I saw them to even ask, in last 4 decades.
      I never ever feel rested but I have bad insomnia too

    Thank you so much. I'm a retired RN and I so wish that you had been my professor about all things related to lab results. In my humble opinion, you're brilliant in that area----more so than any physician I've ever worked with. It makes me trust you when you speak. So Thank You so much. I'm carnivore and have lost 140 pounds. I've lived with chronic chemical depression all my life related to severe childhood abuse over many years. I have not had one minute of depression or old intrusive trauma memories since the first week of carnivore. My training was of course mainstream medical and it sounded weird to me, but I was desperate. And thank God, it worked amazingly well for me. I'm so grateful to you, to Dr. Chaffee, Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Philip Ovadia, Dr. Sean Baker and many, many others. Laura Spath has been an inspiration and a real, everyday what to cook and eat help. I caught myself singing in the car today just for the pure joy of it.

    I’m not overweight, don’t drink or smoke, eat low carb/keto. I’ve recently been tested and have moderate-severe obstructive and central apnea. 30 events per hour. I had no symptoms other than feeling crap in the morning. Get tested, if you can.

    Not having sodium close to bed cured my sleep apnea. Some good studies on how sodium intake increases apnea events and the severity of them. So I just eat my meals early in the day and stop eating like 6 hours before bed. Zero apnea since

    20 years ago I was tested and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I got a cpap and it made a HUGE difference in my sleep and not to mention my partners. Only a handful of times have I went without it and I was miserable. 12 years ago I lost 100lbs (low carb) and got retested thinking I could get rid of my machine. Unfortunately I couldn’t. My sleep doctor said to me, he wished doctor’s would stop telling patients that if they lost weight they could get rid of their machines as most of the time that is not the case. Just mentioning this to be realistic about expectations. I STRONGLY recommend getting tested. It can make a huge change in your life.

    I've been using CPAP for about 18 Years. It saved my life long ago and I am so used to it that I don't feel right if I even lay down without it. It only took a few weeks to adapt to a full face mask. It's what I prefer. Dr, you did a great job at education of this vital subject that is to often swept under the rug. You said it correctly. Sleep apnea can kill a person.

      I took to therapy immediately and it’s such a huge improvement in that when I wake up in the morning, I feel like going to sleep made a difference. I also no longer have to get up to potty since my body isn’t tense all night waiting to wake me up. I also am so thankful to be a nose breather so my mask (nasal pillows) and headgear are minimally invasive and super comfortable.

    I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. However...I didn't need to go into a clinic for a sleep study. They sent me home with a device that I wore while I slept that measured all the metrics that they were looking for. This was years ago now so the tech for doing the test at home has been around for a while now. I struggle enough getting a good night's rest in a hotel...I could just imagine trying to get some sleep while being studied at a sleep clinic....

    My husband did it at home the 2nd time just recently, otherwise, insurance wouldn’t cover it. It was very simple. He has had sleep apnea for over 20 years but the equipment has been a lifesaver for him and me. The cost was $800 vs $8K if it would have been done at the sleep center. By the way, he cannot sleep without his machine, and neither do I!

    I am a respiratory therapist and have intrinsic sleep apnea who has episodes over 50 times an hour with a sat hovering in the low 70’s. CPAPis a requirement! I hate it but it is what it is.

    i was tested for sleep apnea after discovering i was having episodes of a-fib. i have "moderate obstructive sleep apnea". i have put off getting a c-pap because of all the negative things i have heard about having to sleep with one, but this has made me realize how important it really is. i will be speaking to my pulmonologist tomorrow and will mention this. thank you for such great information.

      I have worn a BIPAP which is a version of CPAP machine. It is soooo much better for me! The CPAP gave me claustrophobia and anxiety but the BIPAP is a dream! Just a little note here for people who might have similar issues I had to “fail” on the CPAP before the BiPAP was an option. I honestly don’t understand why the BiPAP isn’t the standard when it’s so much easier!
      Look at allll the options for headgear and it will make all the difference! I didn’t like the hose below my nose and wear a product called DreamWare (there are other brands that are similar) and the hose is on the top of my head so it flips out of the way and I don’t even know that it’s there while I’m sleeping. Find a really good respiratory company that has excellent product options and knows where to get different headgear if you need something unique. Dial in what will work for you versus just taking what they’re handing out as a standard. Once you figure that out, it really is not hard at all to wear. My dad was never diagnosed, but I’m certain Always had sleep apnea and should have been actively treated. He sadly died with extreme dementia and heart disease in large part due to the untreated apnea over many years.

    Also under spoken of is CENTRAL sleep apnea. Most sleep apnea is obstructive, in other words the air is blocked by the tongue or other collapsed tissues in the airway. Central sleep apnea is actually related to seizure disorders where the impulse to inhale is actually blunted. The brain literally forgets to inhale. My husband suffered from this for years, undiagnosed, because he never snored or had any of the other typical symptoms. Docs mostly only look for obstructive apnea. Some have never even heard of central apnea.

      You mentioned some of the solutions that work and some that you don’t recommend. I’ve got OSA and I tried the mouth taping (didn’t work) and now have a cpap. Would be interested to know your thoughts on the implant that senses and stimulates your tongue to get it off the back of your throat. It’s from Inspire Sleep.

    Before I went keto, I was diagnosed with OSA. The doc said “there’s severe sleep apnea, you have life threatening sleep apnea.” He said it was the worst or second worst case he’d seen. This was in 2018 and I still use it. Preketo, I lost 18 lbs alone just by getting on a bipap. My wife is a respiratory therapist and got on my ass for years about my snoring and there aren’t enough “you were rights” in the world that I could say to her. In total I’ve lost 90+ lbs on the bipap, keto, OMAD, etc.

      you did get rid of your sleep apnea with keto? And you were not overweighted? Did you do a DISE to check what was causing the obstruction? How much time did it took to get back a ormal sleep? How much apnea did you have per hour? I am 30, dont smoke, dont drink, not overweighte but have sleep apnea .. i wanna try carnivore diet to try to get my sleep back

    I am seeing that sleep apnea and metabolic syndrome can turn into a vicious cycle. With sleep apnea, cortisol levels never go down which makes losing weight much more difficult. Being tired all day from lack of rest can derail our food plan because we want a simple easy meal and junk food seems easiest at the time. My CPAP story is this.. in June of 2023 I had an incident of atrial flutter that I believe was brought on by extreme fasting, electrolyte imbalance, too many hours working, dehydration and not getting enough sleep from sleep apnea... after cardioversion and ablation treatment I was referred for a sleep study. It has taken 10 months from referral to actually getting a CPAP machine which seems like a very long wait to me... I was becoming so frustrated with the medical system.. anyway, long story short... tonight will be my first night using the machine and I am very hopeful that it will help me. In the meantime I have started Wegovy and am following low carb/carnivore. I have a lot of weight to lose but my hope is that eventually I will be able to lose enough to get off the CPAP.       Sorry you have had to go through this. My dad has severe sleep apnea...he has had it very bad since his early forties (he's 64 now). He used to fall asleep constantly and eventually went to a sleep clinic where it was discovered he had sleep apnea...my mother couldn't sleep beside him any longer because his snoring was so loud...he finally got a CPAP and it changed everything....he felt so much better. He can now no longer sleep without one. I hope you get some relief. I have been considering wegovy myself but I have been hearing some scary things about it so am not sure what to do for the best

      there's only two manufacturers of cpap machines. philips recalled all their machines. maybe that's why the delay

    My CAC was zero five years ago. I started carnivore. It was put on supplemental oxygen at night-I live at 6500 ft. I have mild sleep apnea. Before I got oxygen I had brain fog, memory loss, sleepy during the day.I forgot my grandkids names.
    Now I’m much better.
    I believe everyone should get tested for sleep apnea. My life changed after they gave me oxygen. My A1c is 5.6-5.9 it’s strange for carnivore.

      Hba1c higher if not 70 % -80% fat ,meaning if too high protein greater than20-30, you make glucose from it via gluconeogenesis. Dr Cywes speaks so well on this ,Ben Bickman speaks on this

    I have used a cpap since 2005 makes such a difference. When I was tested my O2 levels dropped to 62% 25 times an hour. I use even for a nanna nap.🎉❤😊

    What's the difference between sleep apnea and mouth breathing? I have been snoring for several years, waking myself and my husband up in the night. I started mouth taping (small piece of tape, not totally covered mouth) and my snoring is gone and I sleep so much better and feel better too. I watched a couple videos by James Nestor, author of Breath, and I was convinced I needed to stop mouth breathing. He says you get way more oxygen in the body when nose breathing over mouth breathing. And it's better for your oral health too.

    I downloaded 2 apps to my phone that record my breathing overnight. I used them consecutively over 2 weeks. They both said “high breathing disruptions”. So, I then had a sleep analysis and it confirmed apnea.

    I had nuclear stress test my heart went into AFIB. Cardiologist immediately sent me for sleep study was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea at 58 apneas per hour and oxygen level would drop to 78%.
    Cpap is a God send but my ? Diabetes was caused by sleep apnea not the other way around.
    Why is this not discussed?
    Why is nothing discussed about the autonomic nervous system disregulation. I am stuck in sympathetic dominant state and I found keto and particularly prolonged water fasting would bring me into a Para sympathetic state which provided major relief. In order to properly treat Sleep Apnea and it's devastating consequences Why are doctors not treating the main issue which is Autonomic nervous system disregulation?

    I've been taping my mouth for 2 years plus; it's the best thing I've done in that it made me a mouth breather again. I have absolutely no concerns about doing so, for myself. I understand (or think that I do) why you don't like the idea of doing so, but for some, I think it could be a great help.

    I use CPAP everyday I have for over 20 years. I sleep better when I use it. I have been able to have my pressure lower as I lose weight.

    Great information. I do medical records in a Sleep Lab and we do both overnight inhouse studies and also send people home with a WatchPat One or a different one. They still see the doctor first and then a follow up visit, but at least there are options for most patients to do their sleep study at home.
    Another thing, fake nails and nail polish need to be removed from the finger that is wearing the finger monitor. Just FYI.

    My brother was tested for sleep apnea. He was given testing apparatus to use at home. He tested positive and now he uses a CPAP. It has changed his life for the better. My partner was moaning about my snoring one night last year, but my medical team don't seem to want to test me for sleep apnea. I wish they would, because I feel so tired throughout the day 😢

      there are online sleep tests that they mail to you,if you can’t call up a sleep apnea doctors office and get in without a referral.

    My husband was asked if I stopped breathing and he always replied no. But I did snore. Then I went from a “purr” sort of snoring to what he described as sounding like I was cutting down a national forest. My Fitbit correlated a loss in O2 to waking up (monitoring my sleep patterns by wearing the Fitbit to sleep) so I asked for a referral to the sleep lab. A home test was done and I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and was prescribed an APAP which was sent to me after picking a mask type online. I took to therapy immediately and was able to feel benefit right away. That was spring 2020 and I have changed my mask a few times and thankfully can use minimally invasive mask and headgear since I’m a nasal breather.

    My sleep apnea did not go away when I lost weight. Most of my family has it. One of my brothers died from it because he didn't like to wear his mask. Get tested and wear the mask if you need it. 😢

      Same! 80 lb lost, still use my CPAP. Family has heart damage secondary to apnea. I'm hoping I caught it early and it keep the AFib away.

      @@misssrednas you can do sleep studies on site or some doctors will ship the sleep study device to you, you do it at home, then you ship it back. The sleep doctors in Los Angeles are who I went with.

      My GP got me set up at a sleep clinic. They wire you up, and you spend the night. I stopped breathing about 100 times in the first hour. The tech came in and set up a machine, and I've slept with one ever since. There are testing machines you can wear at home. I don't think they're as good as the sleep clinic. It didn't catch one of my brother's apnea.

    A year and a half ago at almost 300 pounds I noticed apnea, my local sleep doc uses the home test and turns out I was having more than 45 episodes/hr. I used a CPAP for about 15 months. Now I'm down 60 pounds and no longer have apnea and have stopped using the CPAP. If you're on the fence, I've been told that apnea will make it harder to loose weight due to sleep quality and increased cortisol, so getting good sleep should be part of your weight loss tool kit.

    I have sleep apnea and finally, after 12 years using CPAP religiously, I’ve found a machine and mask combination that works the best for me. The new one pairs with an app on my phone. Within a few hours of getting up, I can access a sleep report and ongoing history of events and make adjustments to ramp time and mask fit. Don’t want to do a commercial but it’s small, black, has an easily removable water reservoir, is very quiet and comes with a heated hose. It also senses the environment around it and self adjusts to room conditions.

    When my son was 7, we requested a sleep study. We did the test at home. He had difficulty complying. Despite a couple of apneustic events, they said it was no big deal. One episode in a child is severe. Naturally, we did an out-of-network study where he was diagnosed as severe. We did years of orthodontic expansion and now at 18, he's doing pretty good

    I"m struggling with this bigtime. Have tried CPAPs for years. That puts air into your lungs. But getting air into lungs isn't my prob. My prob is getting the air out - exhaling. Something back there in throat area slaps shut upon exhale, halting exhale until air finally finds its way out through mouth. I wake up with mouth drier than Sahara. My dental health suffers. CPAP is thus 100% useless. The sleep study people at Mayo don't seem to have a solution - my feedback falls on seemingly deaf ears. Waking up w/ bad palpitations and elevated heart rate. Already have heart disease. Frustrated. Scared.

    I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea four years ago prior to going on a Keto lifestyle. 9 months later and 85 Lb lighter my issues around apnoea stopped. I lost 2 inches around my neck and my face was slimmer as was my tong! yes your tong can store fat, so making it heavier which makes it prone to falling back into the throat in the night. I have had no more issues around apnoea and my snoring stopped.

    I had (and have) life threatening severe sleep apnea. When I was diagnosed at an overnight sleep clinic, At that clinic, there were children, some of them not overweight at all. They had already been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I was only 5-10 pounds overweight at the time. I opted for the surgery. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. I almost died a week after I got out of the hospital from the swelling. I had my tonsils/adenoids/part of my soft palate removed. My tongue was electrically cooked to shrink it. I had a hyoid suspension. Maybe there was more? It was an insane amount of surgery and it did not work!!! I now use a cpap and it helps a lot. I’m 62 years old and have snored since I was a baby (my parents told me). I was never overweight until I got out of college and have struggled with it as I do now. Yes, as I lose weight, it gets better and that should be the ultimate goal BUT some of us might just just have an anatomical structure that lends itself to respiratory obstruction and it definitely has affected me with memory issues and other cognitive problems. Yes, so many doctors DO NOT talk about this and they should be especially in the keto community because being overweight does exacerbates the problem and leads to so many problems. Thank you for bringing this up and offering advice and solutions. It’s so important.

    I have recently been diagnosed with mod sleep apnea...I also have iron defiency anemia with poor oxygen saturation at night.
    Tried the cpap machine and it made me feel lousy.not for me.
    Today I had a session in a hyberbaric oxygen chamber. will report back tomorrow what my sleep watch says about my sleep numbers tonight 🙂

      @@ChickadeeBird I appreciate the reply. But I have found my solution by accident via monitoring my sleep with a smart watch and documenting what I eat, do and take every day. Nitric oxide!! I take nitic oxide booster before bed and IT HAS CURED MY SLEEP APNEA.

    My dentist noticed my tonsils were what she called a size 3 with eyes the size of saucers as she said it. Said I had sleep apnea sure enough I did. Since being keto/carnivore they shrunk to the size of my pinky finger. I haven't been retested but I believe its gone because I mainly breathe through my nose during the day and dropped some bad embarrassing habit. I get up before my alarm most days before 6AM rested and ready to go. She mentioned the mouth breathing too.

    I have severe sleep apnea that is now under control. I am using s BiPAP with Oxygen. I have had 12 sinus surgeries. I am a mouth breather. One of my issues is that, if I actually fall asleep, my muscles relax, and I wake with shoulder, neck, and back pain. One of my sleep apnea issues is that my jaw relaxes and my mouth drops out of the mask causing a severe leak and reduction of therapy. I have tried tape... WTF would anyone tape their own mouth! Nope. I have tried chin straps and these do pull my mouth closed, but my jaw is tense and sore the next day. I tried a cervical collar and found this supports my jaw with no issues. My Events Per Hour is now 0.0 to 0.2 every night. I am also OMAD and have lost 100 pounds. I have alot of Central slep apnea, and my sleep doc suspects I will need a BiPAP forever, but my sleep is under control with the BiPAP.

    I really believe sleep apnea has to do with being over weight. I had awoke many times gasping for air in the middle of the night sometimes up to 10 times in one night. Ever since I have lost the weight it never happens anymore. I am on the Keto diet and it has done wonders for many things.

    I am certain that solving a weight problem can cure or lessen sleep apnea, but I have had SA since I was as skinny as a rail. My jaw was too small for my teeth even without the wisdoms. The basic problem is incomplete skull development due to poor prenatal nourishment and lack of breast feeding. What with the Food Pyramid, desk jobs, etc, modern humans are a mess.

    I use mouth tape with my nasal cushion. Otherwise my mouth falls open and the air cones out and wakes me up. Im not a mouth breather apparently, but it sure falls open.
    Weight loss stepped my snoring,but repeat sleep study showed no change in the AHI.
    I dont enjot the coap, but Feel so much better using it. My entire family has apnea and they all have AFib, implanted heart minitirs, pacemakers, enlarged hearts, etc. None of them stayed with the cpap. i hope i caught it in time.
    All my heart tests were normal. With the exception of mild left atrial enlargement.

    My friend learned from you that intervenous glucose doesn't raise insulin, why doesn't it?
    In an attempt to determine the mechanism of decreased glucose tolerance in lean type 2 diabetics, glucose turnover in such subjects and controls was studied under basal conditions and during hyperglycemia induced by intravenous administration of glucose. The diabetics had decreased intravenous glucose tolerance and a fasting plasma glucose of 6-8 mM (108-144 mg/dl). Glucose was infused for 2 hr at 2 mg/kg per min in the controls (n = 16) and diabetics (n = 9). Furthermore, 11 healthy subjects were infused also with glucose at 4 mg/kg per min to match the glycemia of the diabetics. Glucose production, utilization, and metabolic clearance were assessed by the primed constant tracer infusion technique. In the basal state, diabetics showed normal plasma insulin, C peptide, and glucagon concentrations. Their increased basal plasma glucose levels were associated with normal rates of glucose production and utilization, but the metabolic glucose clearance was 21% lower than in the controls (P < 0.001), indicating decreased sensitivity to insulin. During infusion of glucose at 2 mg/kg per min, the hyperglycemia attained in the diabetics (170 mg/dl) was higher than that in controls (115 mg/dl) but comparable to that of the controls exposed to the higher glucose load. With the lower glucose load, metabolic clearance rate decreased more markedly in diabetics, again suggesting insulin resistance. This was further substantiated by the fact that, at the same insulin levels, glucose utilization did not increase more in the diabetics than in the controls, although the glycemia reached was considerably higher in the diabetics. With the lower glucose load, glucose production was suppressed to the same degree in the controls and diabetics, although the attained glycemia was much more marked in the latter. Because both insulin and hyperglycemia can suppress glucose production, some defect in the regulation of glucose production of the diabetics is also indicated. The insulin and C peptide levels were much higher in the controls than in the diabetics at the same levels of glycemia, demonstrating the inadequacy of insulin response to glycemia of the diabetics. Glucagon concentration was equally suppressed in all groups. In conclusion, impaired glucose tolerance of mild type 2 diabetics resulted both from inadequate insulin response and from decreased sensitivity to insulin. The insulin resistance could mainly be ascribed to inadequate glucose uptake, but a defect in glucose-induced suppression of glucose production may also have contributed.

    Dr. Cywes, I wish you could be my Dr. It's SO hard to find a good Dr. I recently found out I have moderate to severe - my test results were sent to my Dr. and I've had a terrible time getting hold of her. It took forever for the sleep study center to send my Dr. the results. After a month, I called the sleep center and they sent the results to my Dr. Surprisingly, I've been carnivore for 4 yrs now, and lost almost all of the weight that I wanted to lose, I was also type 2 when I started carnivore - but I am not anymore. I thought my sleep would improve but it hasn't and most days I feel absolutely drained. I really REALLY want to resolve this issue - I'm desparate for a good night's sleep. I'm in Florida, like you - but I have Florida Health Care Plan (FHCP) but don't know if your office accepts that. TY for listening.

    The problem is likely poor facial development so the maxilla is set too far back. This is because of poor oral posture, mouth breathing, soft foods.
    The CPAP machine makes this problem worse because the mask pulls the maxilla back further over time.

      Their findings are akin to Rob Cywes findings as in not mainstream.
      Mainstream in metabolic health is the standard American diet which is catastrophic. Mainstream in the field of oral, ear nose throat are antibiotics, Calpol, braces, butcher tonsils and adenoids, cpap etc. Not good.
      Get the face to develop properly and not only will you be healthy but also very good-looking.

    Another excellent video as always. Great advice. BUT you seem to have an enormous blind spot about the harmful effects of caffeine addiction including that it aggravates sleep apnea and sleep health. I am waiting for your "ah ha moment" on caffeine addiction. It could be the missing piece to cap your incredibly brilliant career! Over 80% of American public regularly drink caffeine so it is not a topic your viewing audience will overly embrace. And you do not have to overly demonize caffeine. Just do not put it on a pedestal and call it a "bridge" and then cite those dreaded epidemiology studies to prove its innocence. But again, you do great work for a lot of people.

      @@robertcywes2966 Again, not necessary to overly demonize caffeine. It is about finding your "authentic self" free of substance control. Think about it as a bonus effect when you have been decaffeinated for over a week. Try it once and you will see what I am talking about.

      I'd love any info/tips on this, I got xanths under both eyes 10 years ago, whilst on a low fat/high carb diet before I knew better and switched to low carb diet. Every single time I see a medical professional for the first time they comment and ask what my cholesterol is -3.8 mmol btw - and try to give me statins.

    It took me forever to get a cpap. Now I don't go without it, even for naps. My husband had no trouble getting one. He 'looked like' he had sleep apnea. Apparently I do not (thinking it's the breasts). I have some experience with central apnea as well. It's very odd to realize you're awake and aren't breathing voluntarily. Love my cpap.

    I have both central and obstructive apnea almost 50/50. I've managed to drop a good about of weight but the central apnea is difficult to treat without a cpap. I hate my cpap. Any suggestions besides a cpap?

      I have treatment emergent CSA. it's still better than without CPAP. Stick with it. Try different masks. I use a nasal cushion and sleep tape on my mouth. Very doable.

    At what AHI score do you no longer have sleep apnea? I've been on carnivore for a year now and my sleep apnea has gotten way better. I haven't had one night with a AHI score of 5 and above. Most nights are less than 3. Occasionally I'll have one that's in high 3's or low 4's. I still use my cpap because I don't want to risk more health complications.

    I have sleep apnea. I’m a religious user of my cpap machine. When I hear from people that they can’t wear a mask I call BS. There are many different types of masks and it just means you haven’t tried them. I myself use a mask that covers my nose and mouth but in the first weeks I couldn’t find a mask that worked. This mask would tear the bridge of my nose. It was terrible. I went with putting curad paper tape strips on my nose every night and I have no issues. I went from omg this doesn’t work I’m going to die early to averaging about a 2.0 apnea per hour rate which is nothing at all.
    What I am saying is there are different masks and you must stop lying to yourself and find one that works. Someone told me once that they didn’t like wearing it because it would leave strap marks on their face when they went to work in the morning. That’s a lousy excuse because there is a company called pad a cheek that sells cloth related items that you can put on your mask That prevent that. Like I said all lame excuses.
