-cough- I realize it's just a song...but she sings the line "The cold never bothered me anyway" when she's on the beach, in the summer...which is a contradictory.
Finny Oak I get what your getting at about where she sings "The cold never Bothered me anyway" It should have something with snow or at least something cold and not hot.
This song made me realize that Elphaba and Elsa are so much alike. Idina Menzel did such a great job with both of them.

It's an ongoing joke that Idina Menzel has been type-cast as the misunderstood outcast who has hidden magic powers, so now we're waiting for her IRL to suddenly have magic.

Elphie did have Fiyero (before he died in the 1995 novel, even if the 2003 musical sees him reincarnated into The Scarecrow, strangely enough, yet this change was at least lamp shaded in the lyrics of his song _Dancing Through Life_ when he talk-sings about being "brainless" & "thoughtless") & Glinda (at least in spirit, since the Good Witch finally understood what Elphie meant, even if it was far too late -- considering how both Fiyero & Elphie each legitimately died in the actual 1995 novel & never came back, nor was she informed that her two loves were still alive in the musical, leading her to be stuck in a loveless marriage whilst thinking Fiyero & Elphie were dead forever -- so that come the _Son of a Witch_ sequel to the 1995 novel, she has a mental & emotional breakdown upon meeting Fiyero X Elphie lovechild Liir, whom she decides to protect like a surrogate fairy godmother).

I'm blown away not just by this mashup, which is awesome in itself, but also by the incredible quality of this young woman's voice. It's absolute magic. And she also somehow looks like Idina Menzel. Considering this video came out a while ago, I hope she's managed to make an amazing career out of singing since then.

To me it threw me off I was like...Uhmmm....that's not a part of Defying gravity...they know that right? The tone is there and it's foreshadowing the song but it's not the song YET and I realize they wanted it because it goes with the theme of the song but it was just offputting. The Lyrics in Defying Gravity is

It seemed kinda like a lie after I heard that line I ended up thinking, "Oh so it's really a "Wizard and I/Defying Gravity/Let it Go" Mash up...Just in my personal opinion anyways...and the way things flowed seemed so choppy it was quite unsettlling. And though Idina Menzel is my idol, and I love defying gravity and slightly like Let it Go I found it difficult to keep listening I wanted to see how it ended but midway I wanted to close the tab. (I know Idina isn't singing them and I will admit I like this singers voice very much as well my opinion still stands.)

Yeah ikr, although tbh the single version of defying gravity had the "my future is" version of that section since it wouldn't make sense out of context since Glinda isn't in the single.
But yeah totally, I was thinking the exact same thing xD it's like, come on, i know Frozen is THE thing nowadays but defying gravity is a genuinely better song xD It should've been much more involved in this.

Its a mashup.. If they had more defying gravity they could have just made that song but they made a mashup and for me there was almost more defying gravity than let it go. Great mix of the two songs in my humble opinion as they have managed to break the songs of where they will fit with the other which is something many people miss when making mashups.
This made me remember why I love Frozen. My love for Wicked helped me with my obsession of Frozen.
I, as a rule, don't comment on any videos, but the talent in this one makes me have to give my opinion. Several other commenters made the same point as I'm about to make myself: this is barely a mashup. It is more of a medley of both songs. She has an amazing voice and did both songs a hell of a lot of justice; there is just not enough of both songs at once until the last minute or so to legitimately call it a mashup. Ma'am, whomever you are, please continue to sing; you have the voice of an angel. Mr/s. Producer, please entwine the songs together from bar one if you want to call it a mashup.

I agree. Magnificent voice. However even as a medley it didn’t exactly flow from part to part. Sounds like part of one song was sang. Pause new song back to old. No real blending until the end.

I think live Broadway, and probably edited auto tuned songs are completely different. If she can sing this way live then she should go on Broadway.
Melissa Clair This. I'd never base my opinion on someone's singing ability based on a studio edited recording. Besides that point she really doesn't sound like she has the ability to belt like you would need for these types of songs. Maybe I'm wrong, but we could find out for sure with a live recording.

Are some people really discussing or arguing whether this is a mix or mash up of songs? That's just ridiculous....who cares what it is...the song (or songs) is (or are) amazing! I have no idea who this girl is, or better yet why I have never heard of her, but this impressed me even more than watching Wicked twice on Broadway! Wicked is one of my all-times favorites, so to say that this impressed me more than that is a big compliment in my opinion!

For the first half, the transitions of this mash up weren't as seamless as I'd hoped. But towards the end it got tighter and better. A great mash up and a good singer to go with it. Fantastic!

I have seen many mashups, and I was like "Meh". But this one, THIS ONE. PERFECTION. You mannaged to fit the songs together perfectly, because lets face it, Defying Gravity and Let It Go have a completely different melody. But somehow you fit them together like puzzle pieces. STRAIGHT TO MY FAVORITES!

The singer is amazing however, as far as mashups go this was bad because it's not a blending of the two songs - it isn't a gradual switch. The mashup got better in the second half and beyond (when she starts singing the bridge of Defying Gravity; the "unlimited, my future is unlimited" part). Also I agree with a couple of people that posted before - they should have ended at Defying Gravity, not Let It Go.
I agree, the second half was a much better mash up though these songs do have similar ideas ("Let It Go" being to just be yourself and "Defying Gravity" saying to just take the chance and do things your own way)
When she says she's unlimited that's actually the bridge for "Wizard and I" in "Defying Gravity" she actually says that her and Glinda will be unlimited
The "unlimited" part wasn't from Defying Gravity. It was from The Wizard and I. The part of Defying Gravity with the same tune and general idea is a duet, so she nicked the line from a song with a similar line in tune and lyric so that she could do it solo.
Also I agree with you. These songs are basically the same song with the same message (heck, even the same singer!) just in different stories. Granted one is a duet with added choral ensemble at the end and one is a purely solo vocal piece. You get the idea. The point is that they should've blended well and the transitions were not up to my expectations.
And yes, the dramatic, harmonic, resonant ending from Defying Gravity is much more musically pleasing than the practically spoken word plus some twinkly noises at the end of Let It Go.
I agree it got MUCH better in the second half, well later than that, closer to the end, it was fantastic! but it also sounds very edited, like someone has autotuned it! call me crazy, but that's what I heard!
Sandy Hileman & Tobi Stein: The solo version of _Defying Gravity_ officially & legitimately nicked the "Unlimited" verse from _The Wizard & I_ to make it a solo without Glinda. Blame Stephen Schwartz for taking a shortcut, not Erin here for using said shortcut.

I really loved this! Although the ending is the best part, the layering of both Let it Go and Defying Gravity lyrics on top of each other, each building off the other, is much more effective than switching back and forth like it did for the rest of the song. Still really nice though!

This deserves so much more views! Beautiful! I am usually quite critical of mashups because I'm not a fan of mashing songs together, but I couldn't complain about this! It's 100% awesome! She has a beautiful voice! It's one that I can't get bored of! I just love this! I can see the emotion she sings with which I like about singers. In my opinion too many singers nowadays are just focused on hitting the notes, and don't really feel the emotion of music. The fact that I can see emotion in this and how you've nailed all the notes just makes me love it that much more!

I liked the singing. That was cool. I even liked how the singer was done up to look similar to Idina. The changes seemed kinda abrupt and the songs didnt really flow easily into the other. It was only at the end where the two songs started to work.

In my opinion, the first half was very choppy and could be improved... but the last half was amazing
This isn't a mash up.... this is a copy and paste of lyric interjections. There isn't a smooth transition between the two songs anywhere in this entire video. It is probably the stupidest thing I've ever listened to, honestly. I mean it literally destroys the power that these songs were written to deliver.
I have to agree with you. I enjoyed the last bit because the only smooth transition to me was the part that led into "so if you care to find me, look to the western sky" so about 2:34-3:35 ish before it leads back into let it go. It was the only transition that made any sense to me and the only part where the songs meanings truly worked in harmony. In every other place, you can clearly hear the difference in keys and the rough transition in tempo.

tfisher2014 Thank God someone else said it. This is the furthest thing from a mashup I've ever heard labelled as a "mashup". The two songs are totally disjointed. For whatever reason even the backtracking changes dramatically when the song changes.
Whoever wrote this arrangement really has to learn a thing or two about blending, transitioning, and creativity in general.
tfisher2014 I don't think the mashup works very well either but if it was used in a video where it involved two separate characters singing in two different locations I think it could work very well.
