I in no way interpreted the word "capable" as being equivalent to "able-bodied." That is asinine. I myself was born with an often debilitating disease of the blood, and am legally disabled. I am not able-bodied in my own right.
I take the term "capable" to have intrinsic meaning. Is one emotionally capable? Is one inherently willing to be loving? Are one's traumas so pronounced that closing oneself off to love, either giving love or receiving love, seems the only manifestation possible?
That may or may not be how it was meant by the speaker; yet, that is how I interpreted that particular statement.

With value he means capability, For example, if a dangerous situation approaches and you are unable to protect what you love, love is still there, but you can't fight a burglar only with love.. i don't get why you think its a type of narcissism. It seems to me like a logic conclusion. If you're capable of providing and securing then this is worth more than not being able to do it. I mean yeah you just can be yourself you don't have to fight what ever but in reality must of the wifey material wants a men who is capable to help and find solutions. Thats the life we live as a men. It is our obligatory and natural duty to offer added value.

"Because i believe in myself so strongly the way i love them is to have authority over them" - This is not a healthy way to express love. While I understand where you are coming from, as the statement may come across as radical and direct, I also understand what he is saying. How I interpret the statement is that if you love someone, and you have enough experience to judge someone's life, then you can point out someone's faults and perhaps say that the person in question really needs to change. Suppose you have someone close to you, whom you love, and see that things are going badly with them you can really speak harshly to that person because not to change anything would hurt the person even more.

Great talk ... very intriguing. I'd say tate's defenition of love at the end sounds alot more like "control or controlling". If love only said, do this, do that, NO! because that's what men do ... then the elite leaders of this world would be considered the most loving peope to exist.
I'd say Yes love disciplines and yes many people in our culture have swung the pendulumn way too far on the side of "tolerance" BUT this is prob why Tate is so popular today... he's swung the pendulumn in the total opposite direction in response to all the current day "masculine" distortions. He's a matcho man ... needs to prove his worth although he's still got alot of learning to do of what a man truly is... theres a time to fight and a time rest / reflect and know your loved without needing to prove it. Surrender and accept - be honest / embrace brokeness and get good at saying "I don't know" from time to time. Doesn't mean you fail.... mean's your humble and a real man is humble. Truth is a sword... Tate loves truth but when your only swinging a sword without love (kindness, gentleness, self control) it can be useless and that's exaclty what tate hates - uselessness. A blind spot in his "logic".
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth."

Hi David. I would be interested to find do you see any valid or appropriate points in the mindset which Andrew has cultivated and do you see the classical stoic mindset and mission to disconnect or detach in ways from the focus on emotional reactions to events as a reasonable and valid mode of being which would be of value to people to adopt?
I myself would be, by temperament and to a certain extent my upbringing (not just family but the society in Ireland during the 70's and 80's) instilled a certain sense of perspective on emotions as to maybe be best suppressed. Ive learned not to suppress feelings or emotions per se, but to treat them as markers, signposts if you will that announce an event in a psychological sense. They herald an affect. And by affect I mean an external event which in turn is seeking to have an effect on me, or change me or transition me into another mode of being from my normal state of affairs. I try put no more relevance or profundity on them than this, so I can as much as possible remain in a stable state of being. That line from the Kipling poem "If" springs to mind..."If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two impostors just the same". I have found an abundance of peace in trying to adopt that mode of being. I can still feel, still emote, still love and care and feel sadness, feel joy and laugh and cry but they are only temporary states of my primary mode of existence, which is just me. The me I want to be, which in turn is built off my sense of duty, obligation, responsibility and the adoption of virtues in the classical sense, which provide the purpose in my life. I focus on these, not the emotional contents of my day. I used to listen all to intently to the inner monologue of my thoughts, expounding on fears, insecurities, jealousies, frustrations, anger etc...and even the joyous, triumphant, enraptured chatterings of my psyche...to my detriment. It wasn't until I understood these were the simple yammering of my ego either bruised or victorious, and the reason it was so compelling was it was speaking to me with my own voice, that I began to turn the volume down and learn to stop listening if it was engaged in either telling me how great or how crap I was, or somebody else was. Instead I started looking at my life, my relationships, my friendships, my everyday interactions as just sometimes flawed or fumbling, sometimes misinterpretations of motives and usually somebody just trying their best and succeeding or not to various degrees. I feel modern mental health takes too much focus on emotions and feelings and puts them on a pedestal to be explored and believed as true...hence the term "my truth" when I learned long ago that listening to that inner monologue is often the worst distortion of the truth, as it is ultimately self serving, can be by turns vindictive, self righteous, excuse making and delusional in the extreme if you believe it without question, and ultimately it is the cause of most of human misery if allowed to run rampant. I feel the modern focus on feelings, particularly negative ones has led to the rise of self identification with pain, suffering, hurt etc. to the point that a person's pain becomes their identity, their entire being, instead of a distortion and distillation of their fears, shortcomings, insecurities, vulnerabilities etc...and the voice in their head is the only voice that is real. All other voices are either proxies for it (if in agreement) or enemies to it if not.
I would love to hear what your impression of the above is, and yes it sounds quite like Andrews philosophy in many ways. What do you think? And do you ultimately feel it is a mindset many would be much better off if they understood it better and attempted to adopt as their own??
Cheers, and it was a great conversation you both had. Very candid and real. 👍

Who would you rather spend your day with? Tate or the Dali Lama? Tates world view demands you master suffering by creating more of it and making himself and others cope with it better, which, paradoxically, reduces the potency of suffering. The Dali lama reduces suffering by understand and mastering the self perpetuating process of suffering. Both are adaptive and dysfunctional in different contexts. My bias is towards acquiring depth at both.

@toddlabbe3973 Interesting take and question. I was fortunate enough to spend 3 days with the Dali Lama, and I would not swap that for any time with Tate. I admire Tates strength and will... I hope he finds peace. His views on Love are a long way from home. His attachment to the material, coupled with his constant self aggrandising, reveals that he is not as certain he maintains deep down. There is only a certain amount of self flagellation and self adulation one can do before the skin breaks and the mind bends. I pray he finds the way.

    • @toddlabbe3973
      @toddlabbe3973 Před 11 měsíci

@scottocallaghan4377 I agree with you for the most part. Besides the narcissistic bend and really putting tate aside, the mindset of seeing suffering as valuable is empirically supported as a valuable way to endure life's difficulties. The major flaw with the tibbetian bhuddist take is that they do not have a functional philosophy of evil. Because there is no room for aggression and violence they were nearly wiped off the planet. So I do actually admire and see value with both philosophies, I see they accomplish the same thing in opposite ways regarding dealing with suffering which is important in different circumstances. I would much rather hangout with the Dali Lama too. Very cool you had that experience. But I think pacifism is a luxury of being protected by warriors and its perhaps unethical to rely on that without having the capacity to provide that for others.

But there is a grain of truth in it, although that is also subjective. After all, if you love someone, you want that person to make the most of their life, which involves a certain mindset. Not everyone has a mindset that is proven to work, but Mr. Tate does to some extent. So I do understand about him saying that he feels he has authority to some degree over someone he loves. After all, if you don't care about someone you don't care what that person does with their life.

(it means only in the physical world),
not love that is expressed in the subtle and fundamental,
that is, here where there is unconditional love,
    love of unity and wholeness,
where love actually heals you, teaches you, cares for you...
where the activation of the heart chakra occurs (of all),
    activation of kundalini,
the fusion of the physical body, soul, consciousness, pure consciousness, source...
nullification, conscious birth, conscious holistic creation of reality...
and with all this, physical practical love is upgraded to the power of x...

When someone says, that you need-must someone to worship
      and you do it,
then you have already accepted the construct in which you will be trapped
and that which leads you into the captivity of the ego, soul, consciousness...
does not offer you absolute truth.
      The source is emptiness (nothingness),
do you think the emptiness demands to be worshipped?
How could emptiness, that contains no information, demand anything from anyone?
You see, that is why the source can only be emptiness,
      because fullness cannot be infinite,
because only emptiness is absolute freedom,
because only emptiness can clear all karma,
because only emptiness can give birth to fullness...
So who in existence demands to be worshipped?
This is definitely not the source, so who is?
I didn't just mentally study what religions offer, but I experienced it practically
and by all this I have realized that you are actually just creating a mental structure for yourself
or in other words a prison for your ego, soul and consciousness with this,
because others determine everything for you in advance, i.e.
who you have to believe in,
who you have to pray to and what prayers, mantras... do you have to use,
who is yours and of all the absolute,
where is something located, when is something happening...
      When I consciously realized this,
I gave it all up and opened myself to the true teaching, self-knowledge, self-realization...
and all this is already revealing to me for several decades what no religion offers...
      This teaching includes the whole,
and there is no teacher, pastor, guru, messiah... here to save you, teach you, realize you...
because it is you as a whole...
If the masses believe in something, they worship it, submit to it...
this does not mean that this is right, that this is the truth, that this is the source...
this is mostly proven to be the wrong choice.
What you offer is just one of many common informational fields,
that only reach the soul field,
because of which souls cannot develop further,
and thus neither can the ego...
      Have a nice day

I think there is clearly a bias and a set of assumptions that’s coloring our understanding of people who display narcissistic/antisocial traits. For one we still are highly influenced by judeo-Christian morality even if we aren’t religious and believe in god. And so it’s tilting the average persons view of someone like him as lacking compassion but the problem with that is that this is a world of survival and survival doesn’t have any specific rules accept survive. Same rules as war. So morality is really just a way to peer pressure people into being hospitable and civilized. There really isn’t a universal moral standard. It’s all politics. And mortal beings are always selfish no matter how noble they seem. So those that play the game to win are actually displaying a moral code that says “I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty” “I’m not afraid to be the bad guy”..”I don’t care what the crown thinks..I’m gonna act according with premise I’m presented with a do whatever it takes to win” and the lack of concern for how they come off is actually more noble than behaving in way that is always asking to be liked by the group so I avoid some punishment or get some reward.

@@atiqamir2039 Hard to pick one. I would suggest looking up gaslighting. It is basically denying your own reality when you do it to yourself. And when you do i to others it is denying them their reality. Let us say there is a lightbulb blinking and you look at it, and it annoys you. You mention it to a friend who is also in the room. Your friend next to you tells you it is not happening, and that you are mistaken. But the light is actually blinking. They blatantly lie to you, you might start questioning whether what you are experiencing is actually happening. This we can do to ourselves to. If I just fell in love with someone, and the love is not returned I might start telling myself I am not in love and it does not hurt, when it in fact does hurt because I am in love. And it sucks. Instead I could own my emotions, and say yeah that sucks. What often happens when we do gaslight ourselves is that we need to make up stories about an alternative reality, that makes us feel powerful. In the falling in love situation it can be: that person does not look that good anyways, I am so glad that never happened, and we might start even picking that person apart in our minds to make them smaller then us, so it does not hurt. So it is actually destructive to the relationships to people around you, and limit your own self compassion and growth potential and opportunity to mature emotionally. And is one of the aspects to look at when you feel uneasy in relationship, like if somebody gaslights you a lot in a close relationship you might feel limited, lots of doubt and so on, and quite easily depressed and alone and out of touch with yourself and disconnected.
