- (Jim) Good morning folks, welcome to That's My Farm. I'm Jim Shroyer, your host. And we're at the Agronomy Farm at Kansas State University. It's still a little bit chilly to be thinking about grain sorghum planting but we're going to have Dr. Ignacio Ciampitti joining us in a few minutes, talking to us about what producers should be thinking about prior to planting. We'll be right back.

hank you for sharing. God bless.
I wanna try cultivating this in our farm soon
How best is grain sorghum from other cereal/grain? Nice to attend Professor Jim's lectures on sorghum from Kanasas State University.
My understanding is that sorghum has similar agronomy to maize, but requires less fertilizer, and can tolerate less water. It is not particularly special among cereal grains, and it doesn't have gluten like wheat, barley, rye and triticale.
Mr Robert How many sowing kg/Ha sorghum for good yield grain, please
Depends on your location. One grower in Minnesota, in the USA, with a cool climate and a relatively short growing season, sows milho at above 75,000 plants per acre to avoid tillering, and that's *without* irrigation. One acre is just above 0.4 hectares or 4 dunams, so you can do the maths based on the thousand kernel weight with your sorghum, and assuming a germination rate which is generally well above 80% (look up how to do a germination test and test the seed lot you have to be sure).
Hello. What herbicides do you use to ensure that the plantation is weedless? Is the active substance glyphosate?
Oftentimes that is the choice yes. However, in your own holding you can use any treatment, including yanking and bagging the weeds when you are scouting.

Tell me the exact time of sowing for sorghum crop, and what should be the appropriate preparations for it like fertilizers and type of soil etc, I will be very thankful to you.
Sorghum for grain, generally follows winter wheat in a two crop system in the midwest usa. Check your soil content by sampling first. find out your options and work with nature. good luck.
hi, did you ever start planting your sorghum?
Hello, do you sell these sorghums to individual ( small quantity size ) ?

How many plant in hactar sowing sorghum
+Alhadi Swerry I have been growing sorghum for most of my 70 years of life. I would think that a farmer needs for each planted seed to make 1/4 lb. or .09kg/seed There are 13-16k of seed/lb. or 30k/kg.

You will have to convert these numbers from standard to metric. this is what is done in the midwest. 60-65F is optimum soil temperature at planting.
Please be sure that you are enabling deinterlacing on your video mixing set for the Web. Interlaced video looks very poor on the Web.
i tinck sorghum is millet
Sorghum is a millet. It has been cultivated in three varieties: Cane, Grain and Forage.
They confuse me too, but I think they’re different
Sorghum is called a millet, but it isn't particularly closely related to other millets. It's the species sorghum bicolor, and sometimes perennial hybrids sorghum bicolor × halepense. Other millets, more commonly called millet, are pearl millet (Cenchrus americanus), finger millet (Eleusine coracana), proso millet (Panicum miliaceum), and foxtail millet (Setaria italica).
