  • PRESS NOTE
    With the long awaited poll to the Municipal/Town Council elections 2024 scheduled on Wednesday the 26th of June 2024, the State Election Commission (SEC) expressed satisfaction at the overall preparation undertaken so far. While extending appreciation to all the election machinery involved in the electoral process, the Commission informed that it is continuously monitoring the election related activities in Municipal/Town Council areas going to the poll.
    Reiterating the call for free, fair and peaceful election, the Commission expressed appreciation to various NGOs and the Tribal Bodies for joining in the appeal for conduct of a fair and peaceful election.
    The State Election Commissioner informed that 523 candidates, with 198 females and 325 males, are in the fray in 24 Municipalities spread across 214 wards. A total of 223636 electors (Male-110115 & female-113521) will decide the fate of the contesting candidates. The Commission conveyed best wishes to all the Candidates. Further, the State Election Commissioner appealed to all the electors to enthusiastically participate in this democratic exercise.
    While expressing the hope that the election would be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, the SEC cautioned that it would not shy away from initiating appropriate legal action against anyone or group that vitiates the same.
