"On a plane" shows helicopter
It's Misconceptions for a reason I suppose
😭😭
I've always thought they were agents of Shield murdered by a spy during a mission.
They where in main continuity.
I think I prefer the SHIELD agents more, as it introduces them as part of the broader world of Marvel and not just confining them to Spider-Man's life.
Impact Player Very true.
Impact Player I think that them being former shield agents , MCU could slowly introduce peter's parents in agents of shield
And as a guy on another comment mentioned, the assassin of Peter's parents could be The Winter Soldier
I agree with you Impact Player . Richard and Mary Parker were SHIELD agents , and as SHIELD agents they would have encountered many people in the Marvel Universe . (27 July 2018 2120 hours)
Impact Player 😆😁😁
Well, it looks like this video is....finished.
Elijah Padilla baddum- tssss
Finisher pun🤣
I think the scientists at Oscorp angle works best for the story overall. It explains Peter's affinity for science and keeps all of the characters contained within the Spider-Man Universe.
What Happened to Spider-Man's Parents
They Died. The end
worst ending ever
They DID?
That's a good Question I have always been wondering what happened to them!
Killed by redskull
Pretty sure everything about spidey’s parents are all secretly classified (not by shield but probably by aunt may & uncle Ben)
I kind of like a fusion of the 2 ideas
Mom being an agent of shield and dad being an Oscorp scientist
His father being a scientist adds a little more context to how he became a genius who can make things that some of the best scientists on earth can’t even begin to figure out
And his mother being a shield agent could serve as a little extra flavor connecting them with the bigger world and not just being confined to Spider-Man’s story
My favorite version of Peter Parker's parents would be just normal people with no connection to the world of superheros and villains that Spider-man becomes a part of.
Why?
Well, it's too pat. It's too much of a weird coincidence. It's like Darth Vader building C3PO. It's a connection for the sake of it. For some reason, to me, all that convoluted mess cheapens the awesomeness of Spider-man's origin.
Joker is better without a backstory, and Spiderman is better just having parents who died in just a normal planecrash. If his parents are to have any part in a spiderman story, it should be to set up his ironic fear of being in an airplane.
Richard Anderson, I agree with you. Also about C3PO origin.
Who is Spiderman? I thought this was about Spider-Man
same normal parents normal plane crash bc it gives the thing that makes spiderman special it could have been anyone
That's how I feel about forcing supporting characters to have superpowers.
... looking at you Jane foster!
You know, I always thought the unique thing about Spider-Man was that he was the 'every man's' hero, someone who can be revered and highly respected because like a lot of us; we have responsibilities that we may or may not want and no matter how difficult or tough the circumstance we can get through if we push hard towards it.
With his parents being 'super spies' by being double agents, working for SHIELD and even having a hand in Peter's reason for being Spider-Man it seems more to be a life determined by fate and to me all his credibility of being that relatable hero falls apart. I'm not saying his father should be a blue-collar pipe cleaner or something but the parents history is so abstract they literally had to make comics out of the parents back-story because it's so convoluted.
Will Marvel or DC ever learn that you don't always need to have a such dynamism in a history to be unique?
Matthew Williams Yeah, we talked about this in another comment thread as well. It all seems a bit unnecessary. Haha
*****
I think that's why batman is loved more. He's just a guy who saw something terrible and lost his marbles. Something which can happen to anyone.
*****
IMO it's easier to lose what he never had and Peter wasn't there to see the death of parents. Batman was, so lost his mind. And I never said he lost more, but the affect is greater :P
***** _bullylling_ in general is kind of overrated in the sense is even normal in life at that age (i'm not a bully and not saying it's fine which is _not_) and it's no where near comparable to watching your parents murdered in front of your eyes whne you're just a kid, but granted Peter saw his uncle diying, also having to work cause you're a man of a home even if you're the last one left is just _Life_ so nothing "rough" about that .... SpiderMan is popular cause he's a hero with those values in him, and Batman is that awesome cause he's just a non powered human being that knew how to live and get stronger throught such tragedy bigger than Peter's and then some, being richer doesn't really mean anything except you have more resources to use and other people wanting your money >:}
Except being richer was what allowed him to be batman and what gave him alfred one of the good constants in his life.
I like the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. angle, especially in the Ultimate Spider-man canon. Makes Fury's interest of Peter more intriguing
The story of his parents has me dizzy.
wetlazer You and me both.
***** If they go the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. route then they could possibly have a tie-in with the TV show where' they're dealing with an old case of theirs.
***** Also, here's something I've noticed about all the renditions of Mary Jane:
100 different jobs/aspirations50 hair styles30 hair stylesand 10 different personalities.Inconsistent much?
I gave Amazing Spider-man 2 a rewatch yesterday and everything you've said in this video makes me put things in perspective. Now I think I'm a little bit mad at Sony...I mean, I've always criticized the way Spider-Man movies have had HEAVY interference from focus groups and c-level executives since Spider-Man 3, but you've given a sense of perspective on what probably was the original idea from the directors. If you watch some of the director's interviews he mentions how the studio didn't let him fulfill his vision completely. If Sony wants to revive Spidey and escape the turmoil they're in right now I would suggest releasing Director's Cuts on both Amazing Spider-Man movies...win/win for everyone and it doesn't take much effort or budget.
By the way, I just want to mention how I'm surpried I hadn't found your channel before, your content is great and your charisma doesn't fall behind either. Good job on this.
niespeludo Thank you very much! And I totally agree about the director cuts. I think that would work out well for everyone.
Darth Grumpy if you’ve actually read Bendis’ run on Ultimate Spider-Man you’d see how much TASM was actually really faithful to it and besides that there was heart in the films. It’s just that the original direction was constantly interfered with.
I know there are a lot of flaws like him being a “skateboard riding hipster” but if we’re playing nitpicking at least he isn’t an Ironman sidekick. Now I believe Homecoming is good, but it too has flaws and I feel like people give less chances to the TASM films compared to it.
Parker Parents being agents of shield story line sounds better to me
I think the Shield agents who tried to get Red Skull is my favorite story. The whole "We're back, we love you, we're robots" was a "good" twist story, but irritating that Peter's Spider Sense wasn't going off pretty much the whole time they were around.
i really like the ultimate version of peter parker's parents. even if his father returning was really just a clone made by doc ock. it was a great story arc. actually made a good version of the clone saga
I like how the writers for Peter's parents death were basically playing tug of war with each other to create the origin.
My mind is BLOWN.
THAT is the kind of reaction we like! - Nali
I feel like if Marc Webb had made more movies, this could have been a very powerful stand-alone universe worthy of Spider-Man.
Absolutely! - Scott
hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha hello batsy
hahahahahahahahahaahahhahahahahaha
Batman: " MY PARENTS ARE DEAD!!"
Robin: "Mine are too"
Flash: "My mom"
Spider-Man:"UNCLE BEN! GWEN!"
Martian Manhunter: "My whole planet and all of my people are dead......"
SuperMan: "dude........... same though I never knew them so :P"
Green Arrow: my parents got eaten by lions
+Robby Madden LMFAO
Super parents live the longest lives and they die so peaceful too
Erin Foley What about zod?
Deadpool
I dont have a family and my daughter r son and wife is dead SO HA
i always felt a big part of spider-man was that it could've happened to anybody, so having peter's parents be super-spies or oscorp scientists who were in on the spiders takes a lot away from that idea imo
It can works as long as it's not a large focus in Peter's life. All that should matter when it comes to them is what happened to them caused Peter to be raised by May and Ben.
I love your videos man.... one thing I really like in your videos is how you break complex stuff into small parts, making it more understandable... that's really nice.
Scott Thank you for the nice words! This one was definitely one of the more complicated topics.
Video idea: why does red skull have a red skull?
Eddie Walker I... actually kind of like that... Haha. I'll add it to the list and see if there's something there!
***** :3
Basically, because back in the Golden Age everything was simpler and as a form of WW2 propaganda most bad guys were ugly and red skull was supposedly conceived to be the nemesis of Steve Rogers who was the most respected among all heroes at the time so the Red Skull opted for a face that not only would be a vision of terror in the eyes of his enemies but also a symbol of everything that is evil (which implies ugly) and opposite to Captain America.
I don't wanna give away spoilers in case Scott makes this video for you, but basically the ORIGINAL Red Skull chose to look like that.
Tiger_Eddie MC It gives that story in Captain America 1 i think...
I want mysterio in a Spider-Man movie!!!!
Mysterioussssssss
Yeayuhhhh!
Black Cat too!
+FavioRiveros demitasse, spider-man?
They could make it such a mindfuck.

Nick fury
Ashish Thakur Oh, trust me, that one is coming very, very soon! Haha
Prahlad Bharj Hasn't been one of those in months. Sorry.
***** can you do a video on deadpool origins and if so can you say something about me in the video
talk about Peter ' s lost sister
he have a sister? !!😮
+Aseel Koosa yes he meets his Sister in the graphic novel
FAMILY BUSINESS.
+Andrew Cooper (Da ComicBook Wurm) 😮😮Wow
Aseel Koosa I actually don't know to much about her
That's why I asked if they could talk about her in a video
+Aseel Koosa du yuo evbun Inglesh. bruh¡
It's amazing on how much deeper you dig, how much more you find.
PixelatedCreepers Thanks! Who else goes into actual novels with words to uncover the secret of Spider-Man's parents? Haha.
It'd a shame that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 isn't happening now. This would have been fantastic!
Uhh.... no offence, but no.
I'd rather see spiderman with the avengers.
nshed87 its fine to want more spiderman movies.. but the amazing series was just god awful. wait for something better that isn't a total train wreck. don't worry.. they'll continue to make new movies.
nshed87 I would love a spiderman and wolverine movie. Like with the two of them together fighting crime. It would be Fox-Marvels Superman and batman but with more comic relief and not as polished since batman is rich and all.
Merissa Colten Maybe not a movie about them, but a movie where they show how awesome of a duo they make.
i just gotta say that this channel is awesome!! its really informative and it covers a lot of topics that are very interesting. keep up the good work!!
Love this video, LOVE IT!!! u made me change my mind about the spiderman history arc, these last 2 movies were really trying to blow our minds!
my goodness... that was the most complicated story ever! Aha, thanks for this. I always wondered what happened to them. Wow!
As I remember from my past readings they met their demise in a plane crash. They both are know to be SHIELD agents and traders to our country until Spidey clears their respective names. On the movie the character showed at the end and the creator of the Sinister Six is the one that plotted and killed Peter Palmer's parents.
I recently read through all of Ultimate Spider-Man, and it's incredible that that series combined the Richard Parker Espionage storyline and the Clone Saga into one, and made it one of the best Spider-Man stories ever
I Was just watching your video, after a few minutes I said this guy deserve my subscription. Great work man great videos keep going wish you the best
Shame we will never get our final amazing spiderman movie. They were not that bad.
+legomattanddino Maher I agree, I enjoyed them immensely, possibly due to the fact that I actually read comics, so I was seeing all the set-up happening. Unfortunately execs are trying to market comic movies to non-comic fans so don't want to let story take their time and evolve and grow naturally, they kill them if they don't make all the money they want them to right from the get go.
agreed
That movie sucked
THEY WERE SHIT THANK GOD KEVIN FEIGE IS A MASTER AT NEGOTIATING
+best Gamer yeah just talking and talking
My Friend: Hey do you know what happened to Peter's parents
Me: Yeah they died very describable explanation right there
That scene with his dad works so much better than what they ended up putting in the movie.
omg this channel is amazing, you really know your stuff. and if sony makes all these connections, this will be amazing. thanks again for explaining. keep up the awesome work bro!
poor spiderman... batmans parents never had to suffer such indignity...
mr.big trolling
bruce wayne parent were sigh*
nvm
...Anyone prefer when the back story was that his parents died in a plane crash accident? I don't mind his parents being scientists with valuable research or whatever but I don't like it when stories try to make a simple back story more complex. It makes it less relatable and just dumber. Of course it can be done right but that doesn't happen as much as it goes wrong.
Hey there Scott I want to start by telling you that I love your work and how you always come up with interesting subjects for your videos. I love comic books but here in my country(Romania) it's very hard to get a hold on them, there was a time when I was able to find some and most of them were Spiderman and Batman comics which is great because they are my favourite characters(i even had a comic crossover between Batman and Black Phanter) so finding your channel is really a thrill for me because I get to learn and expand my knowledge of comicbooks(I usually get my info from Wikipedia). So thank you very much for doing these videos I'm a new subscriber of yours but I became an instant fan of yours, keep up the got work dude. Oh by the way in Spiderman The Animated Series there a series of episodes that tell this story you have presented mixing it whit a bunch of other Spidey tells but they give them a twist llike making Electro and The Cameleon Red Skull's sons, introducing Captain America, The Sinister Six and other stuff all in one. Looking back at it it's a pretty nice twist to the Spiderman story and you might like to check it out. Keep up the good work mate!!!
I just found your channel and I wanted to say I love it! It is just awesome. I am so glad I found it. Keep the videos coming they are truly awesome.
Dude...Marvels Spiderman movie is going to be sooooooo sick if they go this direction with the story.
***** That would be amazing
So The ASM Cinematic Universe is smarter than people think. Hmm. After reading the Spider-Verse stories this week, I hope Sony does make a deal with Disney or at least take advantage of the more supernatural and far fetched side of Spider-Man material instead continuing to copy Fox's style of gritty, realistic, no magic, no aliens, no fun.
Plus, my favorite version of the Parker parents is full-on SHIELD agents.
Great video I've been wondering about this for a while it was cool to learn a little more about this. also your awesome
Supersly Cooper Glad you liked it!
I think they really should've used the scene in TAMS2 where peter meets his dad. It's also a huge shame the franchise didn't continued as it had a lot yet to explain in the story. I'm hiped for the new upcoming ideas for the Marvel Spiderman movie coming in 2017 (or C.A. Civil war)
What's with superheroes ended up fighting or siding with the people their dead or missing parents originally helped or fought against
Jonathan Petrosky Perhaps it provides a sense of closure?
I remember the comics they were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and they were killed by the Red Skull.
You are a life saver! thx 4 explaining
It's amazing how deep u went into this! I'm new at ur channel and I don't no if u do this already but I doubt it but what if u compare super heroes and see who would win in a fight!
finisher... hmmmm... sounds like punisher...
oh wow ,, The Amazing Spider man was actually smart !
HOLY HELL MIND BLOWN...... well played good sir well played keep up the great work.
Always wondered where the Sony Spider-Man movies were going. left me with too much questions and anticipation after 2 movies... thanks
Those weren't his parents. Those were clones of his parents. LOL. BTW, how the hell old would the Red Skull be now? Wouldn't he pretty much be a fossil?
Hey subscribed a few weeks ago and I am absolutely in love with your show I just wanted to know if you could make an episode based on my favorite super heroes the watchmen thank you so much and keep on rocking dude.
Blue Raccoon I would absolutely love to, but I first need to find an angle that not a lot of people have tackled before. Thanks for watching and supporting the show!
My pleasure and I will try to find something if I do I will let you know!
Blue Raccoon Please do!
Hello it's me again sorry to take up your time but I found out that The Watchmen are actually based off Charlton characters who are also from DC now I'am not exactly sure if this is a good idea for an episode and if you happen to not like it I will keep on looking
I've read that before. Maybe I could make an episode about it.
"This guy, this guy, these guys, definitely this guy and all these guys except for this guy"
That was your best video for me! You finally revealed me who is the man in the shadows called Mr Fears and you finally gave me a clear idea of who were Peter Parker's parents and what happened to them!
THANK YOU!
Ok, this guy's face and voice is so attractive.... I'm jealous.
no....
He reminds me of Minecraft Universe or Jason
Yea :D
The toxic is real!
Peter Parker mom and wife have the SAME first name! That freaky!
Don't look further if you want to be proven wrong.
Mary and Mary Jane aren't the same name. And yes I know I'm right. You have his girlfriend Mary-Jane Watson, and his mom Mary Parker.
+jeremy kampman Her name is not Mary-Jane, it is Mary Jane. Jane is her middle name, so their first names are both Mary. Just because she goes by two names doesn't mean they don't have the same name.
+SgtSupaman Actually, Mary Jane is a singular name. Sort of like Mary Beth, Maria Theresa, Mary Sue, etc. Because Mary was and is a very popular name in Christian societies it became necessary to add a second name as a qualifier. This in no way was a middle name as when Mary-Blank names came about middle names did not exist. That said, I do not know if this is true in the Spodermen series of comic type books, but It is true in the English language.
maneatingcheeze
That may have been true in the past, but middle names have been around for a long time now, so, in modern society, it is a middle name. Many people go by two names, but it is still their middle name.
No it's not freaky it happens quite frequently
WHOA! Overwhelming and amazing! I love the way you explained it all, and I still think that Richard and Mary Parker were SHIELD agents but also that is my favourite version of their back story. And the Finisher, damn! What a manipulative, evil scumbag! I mean wow!!
Would love to see some videos on SHIELD! for example Coulson, quake, or grant ward and their comic book counterparts! really just anything on Coulson lol
too bad we are not going to see how things turn out in the amazing spiderman movies...
i didn't really liked the second movies, but i was still looking forward for the third one.
I like the shield agents version best.
Visiting this video again after trying and failing to find copies of those novels! Aah! Why are these books so hard to find!!!!
i know you're not fond of "History of's" as previously stated on the podcast (arris was awesome by the way), but could you one day do something on The Question or Silver Surfer/Galactus? Thanks, love the show!
You reached 1,000,000 subs!!! Oh sorry did I spoil it. I'm form the future! I love this series keep doing it. Yale don't be mean to him!
Tim - PixelByPixel Could you possibly tell me how far into the future? I'm guessing at least 24 hours. At least.
Nah 2 days :D
Do you have any link to John Conor I must termin...*cough* Find him so I can wonder why he didn't come to my weekly poker game and he missed and i made sure he got one*cough*
I'll be back.
I feel bad though for the rebooted Spider-Man movies. They had an idea, but I'm afraid too much Sony tampering ruined it. We need a decent Spider-Man movie where it goes back to the more detective approach. Where are the mysteries and big reveals?! Anyways, hoping Civil War Spidey is good.
This is why I love comic books. All these crazy plot twists including Spidey's parents being T-1000's at some point
Love it! You've earned a new sub
K-man McCool Yay!
I actually have that amazing spiderman combo book!!!! :D got it for Christmas its pretty good
I prefer to think of Peter's parents as scientists because Peter is very much into science and maths. It makes more sense to me than Peter's parents being secret agents. Thank you so much for the history of the Parkers! This is really cool and fascinating!
gazebo46 Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it.
you're good at this!
Please do a video about what the speed force is
Would be pretty cool
also, too bad the Amazing Spiderman universe was killed with the second movie ; n ;
who care
too bad? more like good riddance
It's sad because it was the best
Nice
all I want to say is....why the F$%^ took me so long to find such channel!!!!
Percy Enrique Guevara I don't know, but I'm glad you're here!
***** thank you for having me. BTW, since Miles Morales is the new Spiderman, do u know of ay other non US citizens that took certain super hero mantle? BUT not in their countries but in the States? there is an idea for you!...thx!!
nice series. can i make a request? can you make a video about the other X teams like X-factor, X-force and X-calibur?
This video gave me chills...
I like the Sam Raimi spiderman movies better than the newer ones
Andrew Purvis Who?
Andrew Purvis Same
Andrew Purvis Spider-Man 2 was great... It had action and actual emotional depth with characters you actually cared about. Alfred Molina will be Doc Ock for me for a long time now I suspect. It will take a lot to top his performance of the character in this. I also actually think Spider-Man 3 had strong redeeming qualities, especially in Thomas Haden Church's sublime Sandman. If the studio hadn't bloated it out and insisted on the Venom arc, I think this could have been a great movie. Not perfect, but very good. I probably could have even forgiven it for it's version of Gwen ;)
I think Marvel should raid the casting of these movies for their Spider-Man tbh... Not necessarily Maguire ofc (though I liked him in the role), but gems such as Thomas Haden Church, Molina, DaFoe, Rosemary Harris, and, ofc, J.K. Simons!
We all do man.
I do too, but come on 2017 Spider-Man homecoming was soo good
It was a huge mistake to discontinue ASM series.
yup
wait, what? it's cancelled?
Ante Majic theycancelled it long ago... movies did good jobs financially.... I don't know what kind of mafia underworld runs critics business.
ohhhh, you mean the movies .. i thought we were talking about the comic series
Ante Majic Yes I am talking about the movies which I happen to have liked a lot.
The American counter spy story is connected to the Parkers being agents of S.H.I.E.L.D because being shield agents led them to be double agents and spy on the red skull (actually is Albert Malik the fake one, huge game changer) so I like the agents of shield storyline
Those finisher puns 😂😂
If Peter comes from heroic stock, it kind of lessens the Ditko run where he has to grow from oppressed wallflower to someone who is strong and who stands apart from his peers. If Peter was just unknowingly falling into the family tradition, it's not as meaningful as his being a regular guy from a regular family who rises above. The story Ditko did absolutely required Peter to begin as an everyman.
Wow. Those backstories were beyond stupid. Too convoluted and snowflakey. Best version would be to not bring them up, and if they still had to - just make them regular people who died together for some reason.
this reminds me so much about the adaptation or the wave they tried to explain who are Peter's parents in the 90' Spiderman Cartoon
Awesome video Scott but love the part where you say Malik was killed on a plane as a picture of him falling out of a helicopter comes up. Anyway, keep up the good work bro!
Gareth Harris Hahaha. Honestly, I was reading the comic so fast that I didn't even realize it was a helicopter and not a plane. That's a big fail on my part. I expect many more comments about it. Haha
***** I know! As I was writing it I was thinking "give him a break! So many other people will bring it up anyway."
Gareth Harris I'm glad you said something. Especially in the funny way you said it. There would have been other people that would have said things like "Unsubscribing because you don't know what a helicopter is. Derp." or something. Haha. But I added an annotation to hopefully let people know that I'm aware of my mistake. Thanks! Haha
yoooo, i just watched a couple of your videos. had to subscribe! your content dope as f*ck.
This was a good one.
this was really well done. do you think you can make a video reviewing the Nightwing webseries by ismahawk(i think thats how its spelled)
Janzen Harris Hmm, maybe. I'll see if the other guys want to do it and we can turn it into a podcast.
*****, I love what you do, especially the "Comic Misconception" that you did about how Sam Jackson may be Nick Fury Jr. I had never thought of that before and found it very interesting. The same with how you expanded on your father's idea about Daredevil creating The TMNT. And I know that you do a lot on Patreon and Twitter. I'd totally contribute to your show if I had either the money to give to you over Patreon, or a Twitter account. I'd love to get in on your Comic related Google Hangouts and talk about whatever I 'm reading. I love NerdSync, and I hope that it grows to be something bigger than it already is.
This was wild from start to finish
3:08 I remember that in the cartoon!
Awesome video
I saw the green lantern lamp charger thing and wondered about the green lantern that gave Hal Jordan his ring. Can you make a video on it please?
Oh man, I just thought of something that would be a fun topic. The appearance of Aunt May and Uncle Ben PRIOR to Amazing Fantasy #15 in Strange Tales #97 where they had their "Niece" Linda Brown who was a Mermaid.
Marvel's Agent of Shield storyline is my top number one favorite with Richard and Mary Parker and the Norman Osborn connections storyline
The connection of the weapons program.
5:54 nice plane
Great video. I have a question: have you read new 52's Lobo #1 yet? And what do you think about the whole reboot of the character?
MrAlexB59 I almost picked it up the other day, but I ended up not. Should I be reading it?
***** Well, it wasn't bad, but a bit disappointing. It just doesn't have that charm the old Lobo had. At least not yet...But I'm sure that it will get better, considering the fact that Cullen Bunn is writing it :D
@NerdSync my guess on what will happen is that given that Spidey is back home with Marvel now, is that there will be an episode of Agents of SHIELD that will lead up to the MCU Solo Spider-Man film that will have his parents being former SHIELD Agents

I prefer to think that Richard and Mary Parker just died in a plane crash and it was tragic but it wasn't amazing or spectacular in any way. Ben and May were asked by Richard and Mary to keep an eye on Peter while they were gone and they just never came back. Not everything has to be heroic or dramatic. The story of Peter Parker isn't about what happened to his parents. It's about what happens to a family after great loss, and how we rise from that and try to make the world better and climb to the peaks in spite of the valleys in our lives. Peter couldn't save his parents, but one thoughtless inaction on his part was one variable that led to his uncle's demise, and THAT is what gnaws at him.
