  • Checking to see what queen in the swarm from June 16th, and then I go back to the hive that it came from (Hive 5) and put a queen cell back into it.

Hey Scotty, that swarm looks good, and for pulling 6 splits and still having that number of bees that #5 was a super hive. That is awesome.

Yes It was a good hive, it is warm here (just like everywhere) and even after the splits and swarm it is still bearding at night.
      Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the continuing story! This is very interesting.

Interesting to see how crowdy with bees that frame was. I usually see bees move to other frames to build new combs. All the best with the swarm😀

It was chilly that night I think the low was around 6C I think that may have had the clustered up and it was pretty early in the morning when I got into this hive.
      Thanks for watching.

I do the same. Move the queen, leave a couple cells in original hive

Two lessons I learned this year....1.don't leave too many cells. I had 2 swarms from a hive that I left 6 capped queen cells in. Was lucky to be there to see it swarm. They didn't cluster too high and readily moved to a nuc box set on top of a ladder.
Lesson 2....1st queen out does not necessarily go around and kill other queen cells. I ended up with 2 nucs from virgin queen swarms and a virgin queen in the original hive.

Yes, moving the queen is the better way, and that is what I normally do, but for some reason I thought that day I would just try...LOL

@@aanitaobrien I find that the first queen never kills the others, I find that the hive just keeps on swarming, so I take any frames with cells and make splits...it is just a game enjoy it.
      Thank for watching.
