  • This is a simple way to protect your raised beds from birds and animals in the garden. The strawberries made it this year! :-D

    Excellent idea! I am fighting squirrels eating my strawberries and have yet to win the battle. I am going to build this cage over my strawberry beds! It is a neater and faster solution than the metal tunnels that I have built. Great job!

    Good job Christopher, thanks for sharing this video. I think I will make like that on one of my garden beds. I planted my strawberries last May 2021. I can see something eating some of my strawberries. So, this is good idea. Thanks again.

    This looks great. We have voles here and I find they like my root crops. I have found a gravel mulch (as opposed to wood) deters the voles we have. I use netting draped over my strawberry patch to deter the birds and the neighbourhood cat that thinks the strawberries make a nice bed.

    We are going to try this. I planted strawberries this year and I couldn’t harvest coz it was the first year, but the few I missed that got ripe got eaten by something - mice and/or chipmunks, and we need to come up with a cover. I think this will be perfect, thank you!

    Allotment gardeners here in South Wales put large yoghurt pots over the end of bamboo poles stuck into the ground and spaced around the beds. The Voles don't like the noise and movement of the yoghurt pots and it seems to work well.

    Thank you! Great idea. Looks nicer than just draping netting over where birds could still pack thru. I'd be a bit worried about birds during daytime and if I left it closed, sun exposure during the day. Have you always opened yours or ha a you not and noticed any difference?

    • @Sam-tg4ii
      @Sam-tg4ii Před rokem

      Sun light? The netting is not goingto block the sun light..well maybe by 5-10% but not noticeable.

    I call them pasture rats here in Texas. My heeler dog has taken up the sport of catching them on the run. Between those and moles she gets three or four a day. So did I understand you have screen under the bed also, so they can’t dig up?

    What about mice? They can get from underneath. My strawberries grow like crazy, but I saw many birds in my garden when I caught them by surprise and I'm to the left over. However, I know mice are also eating them from underneath because my cat is constantly watching the strawberries outside of my fenced garden. I won't let my inside/outside cat in my organic garden because she uses it as a vast litter.

    I have been having problems with something coming overnight and eating just the top parts of the strawberries as they get barely red. I'm thinking that it's mice as it seems too small to be raccoons and I don't think that rabbits would be an issue at night. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? I'm planning on making something similar to this to see if it helps.
