New yabby dam I hit the yabbying jackpot again

- I've done it again folks! I have hit the yabbying jackpot, but not without the help from my friend Brad who sourced permission for me to go yabbing on this property. To find this dam has made me super happy. The yabbies in this video are not as big, or as prolific as my last yabbying jackpot video, nor as they as plentiful.
This time of the year it is much harder to catch yabbies as they really are a hot weather crustacean. Although it has been a very hot start to autumn for us here in North East Victoria, the nights have been getting longer and the overall temperature of everything has dropped, including the water which has led to the yabbies slowing right down and being harder and harder to catch.
So ti find a dam with a health number of yabbies in it at this time of the year is amazing, I consider this to be a jackpot yabby dam for me and I am looking super forward to yabbying in this dam next spring and summer, as the water is warming up.
This dam was only dug out back in December, Itgwas almost dry so the farmer came in with some heavy machinery and opened it right up. Considering this was only a couple of months ago, and there are yabbies in it now, I think this shows just how resilient yabbies really are.

I admire your conservation of yabbies, You're a master Robbie a great example to all Australians. Cheers and as always, great informative video
Thank you so much for your kind words Jay.
A blast from the past, I looked at that dam and thought no way lol. Great job Robbie you done well mate.
Hey Wayne thanks do much mate.
Nice work mate, good of you to put them back. I love the way you consider the waterway, you're much like me in that respect. I need to go get some more bait sized yabbies before the weather cools off
Thanks mate. Yeah I do not need to keep them all and bang my chest to make myself feel validated. LOL Thanks buddy.
Nice one Robbie ! Excellent as ever !
Thanks heaps mate.
Quality content, sound like pretty knowledgeable bloke 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks so much mate.
I'm glad to hear it's cooled down for you, we had a colder than normal winter. We have 17 degrees celcius during the day finally.
WOW mate our temperatures are similar. It is 26 here today but we have 19 forecast later in the week. A far cry from the 46 only 6 weeks ago.
This is the first video ive ever seen of yours. Immediatly i was impressed. You look like a normal person and give detailed introductions. I am going to peruse your channel in a sec. I reckon it will be awsome.
Hi mate thank you so much for your kind words. I hooe you enjoy it.
I felt the same thing, just watched 2 vids and he seems like a genuine person.
So far that other dams the best mate, we'll see how you and your daughter go she needs to get 10 and more. Great video mate
Haha thanks heaps Dean.
Them yabbies are nasty buggers if left alone for a long time, so I think the best way is to empty the traps regularly. Nice video Robbie who knows what that dam will produce in the future when they are really active
Thanks mate. I think you're right...hence the body parts in the net. LOL
Another awesome video Robbie
Thanks heaps mate.
Love it
Good one Robbie
Thanks Jaycod.
Thanks mate great video
Nice looking dam should be fun when it's warmer.
Thanks John, My daughter Holly caught heaps in this dam last weekend. The video is on her channel. It sure is an awesome dam and I am looking forward to next spring.
@@robbiefishing that's cool bet she was happy.
Another great video mate.
Thanks heaps Gav.
Love your videos mate
BTW Nice shirt :-)
Hahahahaha Thanks mate. No torn sleeves on this one. No sleeves at all. Hhahaha
Great job Robbie nice video mate

Thanks mate.
That last yabby was on the Aunty Jack diet! ;oP
Hahaha
;oP
Hey mate what are the redfin doing , so far this year in northern victoria
Nice vid! Got a preview of the thumbnail on Fishbrain, I got the same net from Kmart today
Awesome, thanks buddy. Good luck with the new net. I LOVE fishbrain.
Score brother. Great spot.
Thanks moose.
Hey Robbie, they definitely ate that one, the big ones eat the little ones so try to remove as many big ones as you can for a while leaving the females to reproduce. Also have you tried roo meat for bait? We use it out west of Toowoomba in the same type of dams and sometime can get 20 or 30 in one pot, if it hasn't been fished for a while, or there has been enough rain to create a bit of over land flow. We only select the biggest now and throw the rest back. That being said we can clean up one trip and get b...er all the next time. If some how spangled perch get in the they will eat all the little ones and the dam is eventually stuffed until the dam dries out and kills the fish. This is what happens on the property I hunt on. Great video Robbie, thanks
If you ever come over here in NZ and want to come and catch some freshwater crays ( koura) let me know.
Hey mate thanks so much for the invite. I have seen them in your videos and they look like stacks of fun.
Thet's choice bru!
@@Urbanfisho yabbies are pretty bomb, different taste to koura
OK, yeah most crustacea have their own taste.
Yes finally, more yabbies.:-)
Thanks mate.
Going to be late for work again. I cant seem to decide to watch later. Have to watch the whole video when I get the notification. Embarrassing when your driving in traffic.
haha please drive carefully Vincent. You didn't take the tomatoes for no reason.
Hey rob you should do anouther catch and cook
Good catch better luck next time
Thanks so much Phoebe.
This just randomly showed up in my recommendations must say I'm not a fisherman by any means have gone Yabbie fishing before it was fun but great vid
Agree lift nets in dirty water in the day and shrimp nets in clear water at night
Do you use opera house nets I use them a fare bit and there great
Nice yabbies Robbie.
Thanks heaps Ritchard.
Great video mate you saw my comment on your last video, I commented about trout fishing for wild trout, I was wondering if soft plastics are better or lures
Hwy Buddy I do not recall seeing that comment sorry. They both have their place mate. It all depends on so many variables.
@@robbiefishing ok cheers I will try them both
There fighting u pick it up it’s claws are gone 😂😂
Where do you go yabbying like what state because I’m a yabby hunter and I hunt for redclaw in the nt and I really love your videos
Hi mnate, I am in Victoria buddy. I dream of catching redclaw some day.
Hi Robbie. Love your videos. What kind of dog food do you use? I've never used it as bait before. Is it just dry dog food?
Thanks mate. I was using Goodo's.
Hey Robbie. I’ve done a bit of yabbing and when ever I found a dam with tadpoles there was never any yabbies. I was told the tadpoles wipe out the cycle as they feed on the yabbie eggs. Have you found that?
Ive not had luck in years , last time I got 6 from 3 nets and 2 turtles , returned them to nature. time before that 3 yabbies a turtle and a eel
Used to have some land up near wandilligong that had on old dredge hole on it with crystal clear water being fed from the bottom by a spring. The thing was full of the hugest prickly backs. Monsters with the biggest tails. Then after cattle got in the hole filled up with weeds and crap and they all left for the creek.
Hey mate that sux. Beautiful part of the world up there buddy.
@@robbiefishing You can still get them in the creek. I chased a brown trout around a large pond formed by a log dam in the creek there until it swam into the logs for cover. I grabbed the fat bugger out with my hands and whacked his head on the logs to stun him till i could get him in the esky. It extended about 15cm either side of a full size esky! The biggest brown trout I've ever seen. Loads of rainbow trout in the creek there too. The dredge hole had so many prickly backs in it but the creek not so many. I used to release some of the trout occasionally in the dredge hole with the idea I could fly fish for them years later but I never did. Probably only release a dozen fish in it. They may still be there.
Hi Robbie new subscriber, I live in the northeast USA I have a stupid question but if this is a fresh built dam how do the yabbies get into the dam? Where do they come from?
Hi John, thanks for subscribing. I don't think the dam is new, I think it has recently just been duh out and opened up.
Yabbies will wallcfrom dam yo dam after dark. Also, birds can carry them, and they can move around a lot during times if flood. There is a try creek bet right beside this dam that probably turns into the yabby highway from time to time.
Ha great video, i was wondering if you could do some videos with your dog/s, thanks robbie
Hi Nate, thanks for the interest mate. I may get a chance to do that during the winter when the fishing is slow and I am looking for content.
I catch my yabbies at the large dam called De Costi's LOL.😀
Yew been missing the yabby videos
Thanks for watching Scott.
Is there a chance of a croc being in there?
No mate, they're about 1200 miles north if me.
Some nice yabbies. What breed is your puppy
Thanks mate. She is a bull terrier cross. We suspect she could be crossed with a staffy.
The SERBS would love these! ;oP
Easy to see why mate, they're magnificent.
I meant the name 'yabby'! LOL!
I liked the cow pun
Hahaha did you find it mooooooving?
@@robbiefishing i found it utterly fantastic
How do yabbies find their way into random dams? I've always been curious about that
Looks like it may be a good dam for u next summer..
I reckon so mate. Can't wait!
Be thankful it's just cows looking and not a bull LOL
The only bull there was me. 🤣🤣🤣🐂🐂
Hey Robbie good tip for when u eat yabbies dip them in vinegar when you eat them
Yabbies and vinegar certainly do go very well together mate. I usually put vinegar in with the water.
@@robbiefishing - if you want a kickarse treat , make up a batter and dip the cooked meat in the batter and deep fry them until crisp - OMG , my mate who is a chef done some - HEAVEN
If you’re ever in Minnesota, I’ll show you a few crayfish aka yabbies! We love you man.
Crayfish arent yabbies theyre actually pretty different
Thanks so much mate.
robbiefishing I know they’re different. They’re same species though. Just different hemispheres, doesn’t mean we all love catching (and eating) clawed critters
Whereabouts is this Robbie? Would we get these yabbies in South East Queensland? Also, where do you buy the nets?
Hi mate, I am in North East Victoria. I'm not sure what yabbies are in your area sorry. I usually buy my nets at tackle shops.
Don't drink the water! Lol!
EAT de wagon wheel! EAT de wagon wheel!
Hahaha
No worries Robbie.
Thanks Brad, you're a bloody legend.
My first yabbie I caught was the size of a plastic water bottle
The reason you prefer when cows are attending a dam , is because they would be the ones that muddy it up by wading in it to cool down.
And I would think that the deep holes left by the cows would be wonderful homes and safety for the yabbies to grow big and fat
Hi mate, I think that could very well be the case. Yabbies LOVE dirty water.
Your dog looks just like my dog she's bull Arab x mastiff
Awesome. Such beautiful dogs.
@@robbiefishing they sure are ❤
Not gonna lie I got a bit of a stiffy when he used metric instead of imperial measuring. You don't hear that too often of CZcams
Hahahaha Should I be alarmed that men are getting stiffies because if me?
Flying yabbies in chocolate milk. Well I never!
Hahaha he's still up in the air mate, had my come back down yet. LOL
Hi
Hi mate.
Dunno been married 😂
I recommend a tin of tuna for bait
Opera house old style. no rings, they know what a circle is its in out
They sure do work well but are beginning illegal in Victoria very soon.
Hi Robbie. All your videos show declining water levels. Are you guys experiencing a drought?
Hi mate, we sure are. It is super dry over here at the moment. We are all praying for decent rain soon.
Dose this man sound like korg of thor ragnorrock
I don't know. Does he? You tell me?
What kind of dog?
Hi Phoebe she is a bull terror cross. Mist likely crossed with a staffy.
she is so pretty just love dogs have 2 of my own a hound dog and Panamanian (big smiles) @@robbiefishing
Come out and fish at Deniliquin
Less talking more yabbies 😂
A video without talking would be boring.
If your any where near the Illawarra the yabbies are bigger than lobsters
Thanks mate. No I am down on Victoria.
If ur ever up my way look me up and I'll put you on monsters 🤙
Fish in deniliquin nsw
Udderly disappointing! 😂🐮
Hahahhlaha
Yabby catch and cook please
Hey buddy I recently made a yabby catch and cook. If you search "How to cook yabbies" you will find a yabby cooking video from me.
First
Well done mate.
Those nets are terrible! They don't let the big yabbys in. Go the open top nets!
I find the outperform open top nets in some situations. It would need to be a bloody big yabby to not get through that hole. LOL Personally I find these nets work better in clearer water, unlike this dam. LOL
How do u know what gender they are?
Hey mate you have to turn them upside down. There's markings on the back legs. You will probably be best to ask Google to explain it better. If they have eggs it is obvious.
Looks like you're fishing in chocolate milk.
Hahaha or ice coffee. LOL
You never reply to me please reply today
I do the best I can. I do not recall seeing your comments to be honest.
They are cannibals so the small ones probably got eaten.. ie tail left over
Opposite to us. Haha We eat the tail and leave the rest. LOL
In Glenorchy dams they are better than them
I have no doubt mate.
Headline: "I hit the yabbying jackpot again": then the first paragraph explains that this really isn't a 'jackpot' like previously... the bugs aren't as big or as prolific nor are they as plentiful. That sort of makes the title a bit click bait-ish. I'm not sure what information the 'prolific' comment was supposed to convey... maybe you can figure it out.
It was a jackpot in the sense that I found another really good dam that I can go yabbying in. It can be hard to find dams. The last dam the jackpot was more about the sheer size of the yabbies. After a string of failed yabby dams, I consider this to "hit the jackpot" even though there is not as many, and they're not as big.
Yeah the clickbait title got me too, I expected to see a big ol' haul like some of the other vids but hey still looks like a good dam
@@winark1 Thanks mate. The jackpot was finding a good dam, not so much the size or number of yabbies.
I guess you guys don't get to see the I or 9 dams I tried in the week leading up to this video that had zero yabbies in them.
Wow am I'm doing something wrong? 60+ per net in 30 mins. Leave overnight nets get holes....
60 yabbies in 30 minutes and you think you're doing something wrong?
I wonder if there's a slight chance that perhaps neither if us are doing anything wrong, but perhaps you have access to a much better dam than this one?
Being sarcastic! Lol go drop a net where the old dam was in craigieburne. Even better results there.
@@robbiefishing would that be close enough? Opposite the golf courses where the ponds all join is another awesome spot. You'll need strong rope and a big bucket or 3 lol. Hope you find the spots
@@hulkgqnissanpatrol6121 Thanks mate. That's a long way from me. Old in Wangaratta. The best yabbying for me is 2 hours north in Riverina NSW.
Just more push to ban anything that can get a feed in one pull, get a 3m long off cut of carpet shag pile, rub fishy cat food into it, roll it up, roll it into the water at the bank pull it half n hour later they won't let go
Hahahaha what a great idea. I've never heard of that technique.
And try chicken necks mate
We use a chicken carcass
Sad day crawdading- if we don't 40 or 50 in our traps we consider it a bust
I've never caught a crawdad. Hopefully I get do it some day.
why doea he call them yabbie just call them cray fish
DOUBLE MATIC 14 Cause it’s called a yabbie, it’s a species of crayfish but the name of the it is “yabbie.”
Yeh its just the law of physics, reproduction, growth, and nature. The more big ones you pull out of a small water surface area the less big ones there will be. Some of your other dams in 1-2 years will be great because there are heaps of smallish ones; as long as no-one else launches into them in the meantime.
Hey Peter, absolutely mate. I agree.
You do produce some good stuff Robbie. I've been watching since you had all black hair, and even when Holly was a tiny one emulating her dad LOL. Don't worry i'm older than you, and father time moves on
@@CalaisRider hahaha thanks so much Peter. The old beard is a bit like watching 50 shades of grey. Hahaha
should of cooked a steak
Did you know yabbies actually hate meat and eat it to get it out of the water there really vegan
Hey buddy I have actually heard that.
Cool
I recon you should do a video trying to catch yabbies with veggies like potatoes and carrots
