So, you want to hang and color Styrofoam trim your windows?
Measure the wall where the stucco foam molding is going to be installed.
Mark the measurements on the length of the foam molding with a sharpie.
Clean around the window where the mold is to be attached as nothing adheres to a dusty surface, not even Poly-Bond, which is an adhesive cementitious cement that holds the foam onto the walls.
Cut the stucco molding to size with a cement cutting miter saw blade, or the fiberglass netting will shred. Do not use a wood-cutting blade!
For corners, adjust the miter saw to cut the depth of the first side at a 45-degree angle. Set the saw to the opposite 45-degree angle to cut the other side of the corner.
Set the stucco foam molding in place with the help of a partner. The molding is not heavy, but the molding's length may require two people to keep it in place while it is installed. Now apply La Habra’s Poly Bond, which is specifically engineered to hold the styrofoam in place.
Apply the poly bond on the rear in an S shape.
Some say not to set using nails but instead use tape.
I say this is ridiculous. I've had many stucco contractors, even my friends who are stucco contractors, call me and say, "My styrofoam fell from a building."
I say, "foolish." you should have used 16 penny nails to attach them while the poly bond set, the nails, sink into the wood substrate; no matter how high, they can't be blown off or loosened.
I've actually heard, "Won't the nails puncture the two layers of paper? As if the 10,000 on average nails or staples used to attach the lath don't already puncture the paper.
Hello, it's a self-healing two-ply paper, a 60-minute paper. If this were true, every house in the world that is stucco would be leaking.
Here is a word about the exterior insulation finish system or EIFS and stucco molds.
If you're searching for these online, type in "Decorative exterior foam trim."
Stucco leaks and water intrusion can be caused by a removed or a missing nail.
Prevent your stucco walls from leaking by pounding the nails in or removing and caulking the holes before applying stucco.
Hello all, in this video, we’re explaining dos and fonts when considering punching stucco Styrofoam.
Such as buying them precoated and using a saw with a masonry blade to cut them.
How to attach them and why.
A few other tips include applying an acrylic color finish over the newly installed foam molds and walls.
My stories are past facts from my career as a lifelong plastering contractor.
99% are positive. However, in this video, I tell of a past job encounter.
I’m directing that story to all the newly licensed plastering contractors who are eager to earn a legal living and that sometimes you have to use your judgment to “decline” certain people.
This I say as I’m talking to a newly licensed man who says, “The fella who hired him or owner won’t pay.” Upon completion of his work, he googled the men who hired him and found multiple judgments against him for this very reason.
Things and people that make you go, hmmm.

Good afternoon Salim Mhunzi. Now you went and did it. With that comment, you have unknowingly become my newest and bestest pal. Cheers, my brother.🍾
You got that right !
Once again GREAT job
👍😊 So much respect for all your knowledge! Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Howdy family Dutton Dude, your welcome, my expertise is freely given to anyone interested. cheers.🍺
Kirk your an outstanding plasterer. I worked doing stucco when I was younger (20 years ago). I recently had to do a stucco repair and looked up a video to refresh my memory. I've been watching your videos since.
Good evening Richard, Man, I Sho-Nuff, like you're style, Thank you.
kirk Giordano Plastering
Kirk, I have viewed your videos for years. Your instructions and lessons that I have been blessed with have always and to this day made me a better contractor thus a better man. I have genuine love and appreciation for you and your family. The Giordano family is in my opinion. "The epitome of a hard-working American family" God bless each and every one of you. your student and friend. Wayne Jordan
Howdy Wayne Jordan, wow, man, thank you for those too cool and kind words as they are working🍾
Great video Kirk , love the stories .
My late father always said " you certainly see life in this job " ........us guys in construction probably meet every kind of character there is .
Stops life getting boring.
Keep up the good work 👍
Good evening Gladiator dude, Indeed it does. Most of our clients are the best of the bestest, like the fella we were working for in this video,
But every once in a while, an asshole will sneak up on us who cannot sleep or have sex unless they screw or cheat someone out of cash earned. 🍻
i have the answer for your mate who had that problem on the 5 story building where his moulding came off in a storm (9 minute mark in video)...you dont need scaffolding. In these situations, the best solution is to get a professional rope access tradesman in to complete the task. I have done plenty of rendering off ropes...its difficult work and takes a lot of practise, but a rope guy who knows what he is doing would easily be able to re-apply those foam mouldings in just a few hours for probably a couple of grand!
All in all however, this is a great video Kirt, i love the way you teach and I continue to learn new things from you every video. Thanks for your knowledge and experience.
Evening Adam, thank you, my friend. I have worked off an 18 story building hanging from ropes connected to a long plank. I should have died for doing such an incredibly foolish thing for money. Many years back, when I didn't know fear.
Personally, I’m a plasterer, not a stuntman,
You, my friend, are the big kahuna with bigger kahonas, than my friend or me, as I consider this idea, suicide that's earned.
Most would not have noticed or cared I was working on a slanted roof that was foolish enough but to hang 5 stories with tool belt pouches, with even the world's safest harness, I say it can't be done.😉🍻
Master at work, very enjoyable to watch and listen Kirk,
All the best to you and the fam.
Evening Mr. Chazzahc, thank you for those kinds of words, my friend.🍻
Thanks Kirk, I’ve been doing stucco for 9 years now and I always learn something new thanks to you!! 💪🏻💪🏻
Howdy Fredy, I'm just the messenger, your the one with the sponge-type mind that retains what you see and hear, so, you're the man. 😏
There’s always something new to learn man 👍🏻
Like always, I didn't plan to watch this particular video, but I couldn't help myself but to fully watch it to the end, as I find it impossible to not listen to the entertaining teachings of the master.
I must have learned at the very least ten construction tips in just this episode alone.
Howdy Juan, Man, I sho-nuff like your style, thank you, my brother. Now save the world.🍾
Your camera angles are really good. Your content is really really good. Thank you.
Good evening J far, thank you, my friend.😉
Sir, i just finished with the stucco on the back side of my outdoor kitchen. And i have to say that you make it look way too easy!!! Thank you for sharing your kwnoledge and skills with us.
Howdy, my friend, soon you will be making these how-to videos?
you can take my place.😉
Hey Kirk, longtime viewer. Just want to say I love your vids, I've learned alot from them. Also I remember that particular house in other videos. Beautiful house. Thank you & Happy New Year.
Hello Ernesto, I've been working on this home for over 30 years as the fella has learned he can depend on us for sound advice and workmanship.👍
Happy Thanksgiving Kirk, to you and yours. Your videos have helped me get through many jobs over the years always good to see a new one
Good evening Ry Guy Dude, thank you and best wishes to you and yours also my friend.🍻
Really learning something watching this, thanks Kirk!
Evening BMW, cool beans, Daddieo, now you can do it yourself.🍻
Great video Kirk, thanks for the tips 👍✌️
Good evening Rick, thank you, brother.🍺

Love your videos man, I learned. a lot. I am getting in the industry 19 yrs old so I have a lot to learn
Howdy Lued, you can get a jump or headstart by watching videos on the subject; we did have this option when I started. LOL 🤔
I really enjoy these videos
Howdy Spread creek dude, thank you for the kind words. 🍾
Moldings!!!!!!!... Been waiting for this one a long time from the Master-Plaster!!!..... Did not disappoint!
Good evening Roblox Maniac, cool beans, Daddieo, glad it helped.🍻
Howdy, we have many videos on styrofoam moldings, not just this one.
Always good to see a vid from KG and co.
Hello Barnekkid, thank you, brother.😏
Thank you sir.
Thanks for this one... Did a similar job myself, first time working with styrofoam. Not really my field but a neighbor needed some maintenance on some trim that wasn't installed very well. Your video helped reassure that I did the job right.
Good evening Juan, thank you, that's what we're here for.😏
You’re awesome, thank you for another greatly informative video
Evening Aikido, you're welcome.
Thanks for all the great videos throughout the year Kirk! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. The Jaramillo’s.
Evening Matt, thank you and best wishes to you and yours also my friend.
"Kirk the best", entertaining, I don't do stucco but I am subscribed , fun chanel
Good evening Konstantinus, I like your style, thank you.🍻
Thank you, my friend.👨🏻🔬
Превосходно! Как всегда заслуживаете самую высокую оценку. 👍👌
👍
Great video very decorative in the UK we would have to use screws because most of our buildings are in brickwork or blockwork looking forward to your next videos
Evening Chris, my fellow plasterer in the UK, man, now wouldn't that be a chore, to not only have to find the grout but to then screw into it.
If someone asked me to price this, I'd simply speak the truth and say, I won't even try this.
czcams.com/video/uki4lrLzRaU/video.html/ A man's got to know his limitations.🍻
Hahaha!! A BIG punch for a BIG nail 👍🏻 those foam trims really look great
Almost like a nail used for railroad ties.😉
Kirk is the best!!!
Good evening Fence Rider, LOL.👍
exzachary.😉
I bet you have some stories about working for people, Thank for the video Kirk
Good evening, John, 99% are all good, but I have been in this trade for more than 40 years. I had a few who wanted something for nothing, it seems to be human nature.😉
We have heard many goofy things, that's for sure.👨🏼🎨
It would be interesting to see you do a Traditional Hotlime Plaster 3 coat render mix on your brothers eco new build, finished in lime and silica sand finish coat.
Howdy Paul, we do already have many videos showing this in detail.🤔
Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. I've not seen you do a traditional Hotlime mix where you show the CL90 Lime being slaked and hot mixed onsite before rendering and then plastering. For your brothers Eco build (if not already rendered and plastered), that would be the idea product to use and great to see the whole process from beginning to end.
Awesome! Can you repair styrofoam cracks with the Polybond??
Absolutely.🍻
what company in your area you do recommend for doing custom radius moldings? I have a 55"wide X 90" high arch window that needs a retro window replacement. Thanks for the tutorials!

Hey Kirk, sorry to keep messaging you, but I am going to a job to Measure to install a new door tomorrow and so if it’s just the square foam mold around the door, do you still try to save those? I’ve always went 2 inches away from the frame with my stucco cut to remove the nail. Is that also what you would suggest? I will definitely be referring you once I get some approved installations. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to me.
Jacob
Hi Jacob, that depends on how the molds were attached. You can saws-all them off, and reinstall afterwards. Or simply destroy them and buy new ones at a plastering material yard.
We got beat up a couple years back when we said we'd remove all the molds as the folks didn't like them. They had stucco metal wire netting, we couldn't even remove the finish with new blades. I had to leave them on and go around them. There are many ways to skin a cat and one has to improvise. 🕵🏼
Can you do a video comparing different trowels? 🙏🏻 I always use marshalltown but since I do a lot of acrylic lately I switch to Nela trowels
Evening Fredy, let me think about it, Uhhh, Okay. czcams.com/video/Lo_s7Jo2UQU/video.html/
@@StuccoPlastering thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
The Man 🍺😎👍
Evening T Bok. Thank you, been a long time. I hope all is well, my friend cheers.🍻
We are stuccoing our home new build. When is the process for architectural molding applied ? After brown coat or after stucco coat for best look and performance.
HI Johnny, styrofoam molds are attached on top of the brown coat or base coat. Type in how to install foam molds and many videos will magically appear to explain and show you how we do it. 👨🏻🔬
Hi Johnny, good question, After the base coat and before the finish coat.🕵🏼
I’ve set tile 🙋♂️
Howdy, with a title like, "I set Tile," I believe you, my friend.😉
I don't see a LaHabra Poly-Bond in my area of Santa Clara. LaHabra is sold by Home Depot, but not Poly-Bond. Is there an equivalent? I'm attaching styrofoam trim over stucco. Rapid Set Stucco Patch is OK, but a bit thick/grainy and expensive. I'm looking for something more affordable. Thanks for your videos, Kirk.
Howdy Writer Dude, you would have to google, "plastering yards near me" to find Poly-Bond as it's a professional cement adhesive product. Try Googling plastering yards such as, "Westside Building Materials" they are located in many cities.
That red tape face on the visqueen!
Good evening, I guess you can say, we have too much time on our hands.😉
I watch Kirk like I watch Tom Brady on TV 📺 🤳🤗
Howdy Jose, Man, I sho-nuff like your style, thank you.🍻
Same here. He grows on you, it's pretty addicting.
I have a guy putting on pop out, he claims he does not need to add stucco
Where the foam attaches. He claims color will fill in all the 1/8 gaps, do you agree?
Hi Steve, if the gap is under about a quarte inch and he's a professional, he should be able to do this without the color coat hairline cracking in the gaps, If the areas crack, then he needs to learn the hard way. We've all been there before.
Hi Kirk, have you used Rapid set sealants?
Hello Omarr, no, in fact, I have not heard of them. Do you mean caulking?
I have used many of "Rapid Sets, stucco, and types of cement."😏
I have they are all good, in my humble opinion.👨🏻🔬
Hey Kirk, I was born and raised in San Francisco and have been in construction and glazing for 20 years. I recently started my own company based in Dublin and have some questions about cutting into stucco with foam pop outs to replace sliding glass doors. Also, not sure if you are interested in work in the tri valley, I may need someone to redo, stucco and foam borders around sliding glass doors that I install. Let me know if you’re not too busy to connect at some point. Thank you very much and have a great day.
Jacob with sharp glass inc.
Hi Jacob, we work in that area; when cutting styrofoam molds, we use a sawzall with the longest blades possible to remove them if we want to reinstall them. And yes, you will go through some blades e,specially if you're trying to cut through the grout that attaches them as most are cementitious adhesives such as as La Habra's poly-bond.
@@StuccoPlastering thank you so much for the information hope to connect in the near future
@@jacobmoffett3958 Cool beans, Daddieo.
Is it complicate to repair the foam around windows?
Evening Lopez, everything in life takes practice. For us it's easy as we have the time in, or practice, sorry, there's no way I can accurately answer this question for you. In the description is a detailed version of how to along with this video. Good learning. 👨🏻🔬
@@StuccoPlastering thanks for replying back really appreciate, my cup of tea is auto-body was thinking of working on my exterior trims.
There's a similarity to fixing things on car and homes, you'll do fine.🕵🏼
What kind of paint for exterior stucco? Any recommendations?
Stucco flex, renew, or Sherwin Williams, just to name a couple.
Sherwin William, Kelly Moore, are both of quality.
Would stucco color coat be better than sherwin Williams paint?
Why didn’t you turn on to the wall? That will definitely crack around the window trim.
?????
Bull.
Foam is light....ive had to remove these off a house with only poly as the adhesive (came off in pieces)...they arent going anywhere as long as the surface is clean....I dont nail them if I have clean surface or bond agent on paint (still needs to be clean)
I used a masonry blade on first install bcuz it's just common sense with coated masonry surface
Really messed up my saw though with the dust.... dont recommend using your saw for carpentry to do this......
It is fairly simple to do and forgiving though.....
You could probably make your own polybond .......plastic cement and sand.....it would be close ....
Evening Kirk, Exzackory.
IF in time the galvanized could rust why don't you use stainless steel nails?
Steel can rust also, A galvanized nail can rust, if you hit the head with a hammer, why? the hammer knocks off or underlines the galvanization.🤔
Galvanized nails aren't supposed to rust.👨🏻🔬
Why would he be liable 9 years later? Here in North Carolina there is only a 1 year implied warranty.
Hello Myk, my friend, whether or not it's a one-year, five, or more, it was really not a matter of time warrantee it was principles. The bottom line was he did indeed repair it.🍻
In California, the rules are different.
👍👍
Thank you, my friend.👍
@@StuccoPlastering really enjoyed watching your videos. Great job! Keep going 😀

You can use a spray foam as well works great. One chance to get if right. Lol

Tuckpoint my fellow tradesman,, I'm familiar with spray expanding foam, it does have its uses, but not really intended for this.😏
No really.😉
Should have meshed the joints you had it right there lol.
????
You are the best. It would damage my soul to attach styrofoam to any home.
Good evening Gypsy Dude. thank you. I have been working on this man's home for well over 30 years, Or this video would not have been made as installing styrofoam is too tedious for us.
But for such a nice guy, we made an exception. 😉
Exzachary, unless, it's asked for.👨🏼🎨
What other options do you have for trim work on a stucco home?
How many years ago? 😂
Howdy Vernon, A couple hundred at least.🤙
Funny story, just removed a full to the top garage face with foam. Disaster as water leaked in and completely damaged the structure. Wish I could show pictures.
Good evening Will Morales, Exzackory, you make my point. 😉
Did the styrofoam had air channels on the back side or was flat on the wall sheathing?
@@Faruk651 Both, but invisible to the human eye, microscopic, but this means nothing. The point is to leave the nails in or don't use them.🤔
@@StuccoPlastering Hey Kirk, my question was for Will Morale's case.
@@StuccoPlastering I install styrofoam moldings/trim as an eifs installer. I install 16" tall and 8" wide coated crown moldings in commercial jobs. I don't know why you chose to use wet mix for attaching mouldings. In residential jobs, only time I use a nail or screw is for the sill moldings until they set. And I never leave them in, too risky since eps foam does suck up moisture and water. Once the sill is set you don't need anything for the sides or top. All you need is good cuts and good mix.
Hey kirk can you mention my name in your next video because i ask good questions. Thanks
It's possible, what does the NAJA stand for?🤔
