I have had Canna's for years. My neighbor has tons and she has cats and dogs. Never had one get sick from them. They need to be put in the ground so the rhizomes can grow longer and make you lots of cannas. They will really multiply. You can take a large knife or use a shovel to dig up some to move to different locations. I've even dug them up and broken the rhizomes with my hands. Also, go to CZcams and you can find videos showing how to keep them blooming longer. Mine come back every year. I expect yours will too because you don't get a lot of snow. My neighbor gave me some deep pink/coral ones and they are beautiful. If you do plant them in the ground, give them plenty of room to grow. I'll send you a pick of hers to see how they multiply. For the people saying theirs didn't come back, go to CZcams and look at the videos for overwintering the rhizomes.

I use to have long hair, half way down my back. On my 30th birthday I cut it off and shaved my face clean. The construction company I worked for offered me a superintendent position. I turned it down. Told them my hair didn't do my work. Plus it would cut into my side job time. The bar that I worked at for 10 years nobody recognized me. They tried to card me at the door and charge me a cover charged. When I spoke they realized who I was.
