What the MCU has done is great, but that doesn't mean DC should just imitate that to make quick cash. They should've been creative from the start and make their own mark by making standalone movies that are not inter-connected. Imagine a live-action Crisis on Infinite Earths, a Kingdom Come movie, or Batman - Under the Red Hood or even Final Crisis, each with their own versions of Batman, Superman etc. It would've been unique and visionary.

I hope this is as good a film as it appears to be and really paves the way for DC as a film studio in the future.
This was the movie Martin Scorsese wanted to direct with Leonardo DiCaprio as the Joker a few years back. Stuff didn't go their way (Scorsese is now its exec producer, Phoenix got the title role) but it does have the grim psychological drama feel that Scorsese is known for.

Heat Ledger's Joker was insane in other ways. While this trailer gives the feeling that JP's character had a mental illness long befoe becoming the Joker. I've readed a comment talking about the letter from the trailer, it actually says something about mental illness and people expecting you to behave as if you dont have it. Since you can see he suffers bullying from the people of Gotham and gets called a "freak"... It does make sense. And if you pay attention to his voice, he does sound like he's not just a normal person.
Cinematically, DC is playing on a level that Marvel can never be at, well maybe because the latter never wanted to go the dark route. And this is why to me DC films excite me more.
I wouldn’t say dominating, but they learn where are their strengths and weaknesses. Dc has better individual stories than Marvel. They should bet on these stories with well written movies instead of trying to create a universe. The dark knight trilogy was good because it is a concentration of the best of Batman. But I fail to see the inspiration in “man of steel” or “Justice league”. Even “Batman vs Superman” who looks like the “dark knight returns” is thematically really different from the original material.

The most powerful part for me was at 1:11. Seeing him forcing a smile with a tear on his face shows the conflict between his mother's words and the abuse he's received from society. The perfect fuel for a sociopath meeting a man trying to keep his innocence

This almost feels like a prequel to the Dark Knight. Like this is how Heath's Joker came about.
Some people get the idea that Heath’s Joker was a war veteran, which would explain comments like “a truckload of soldiers blowing up” (his one bad day?) and his familiarity with the 21-gun salute during the police funeral.
@@astraldirectrix I've heard those theories too. But just saying in comparison to any others this one seems closer in many ways. Because that Joker didnt seem to be a "fell into acid" type. More like real world trauma combined with mental illness.
Heat Ledger's Joker was insane in other ways. While this trailer gives the feeling that JP's character had a mental illness long befoe becoming the Joker.
I've readed a comment talking about the letter from the trailer, it actually says something about mental illness and people expecting you to behave as if you dont have it.
Since you can see he suffers bullying from the people of Gotham and gets called a "freak"... It does make sense. And if you pay attention to his voice, he does sound like he's not just a normal person.

Dc has better individual stories than Marvel. They should bet on these stories with well written movies instead of trying to create a universe.
The dark knight trilogy was good because it is a concentration of the best of Batman. But I fail to see the inspiration in “man of steel” or “Justice league”. Even “Batman vs Superman” who looks like the “dark knight returns” is thematically really different from the original material.
