Because this video's releasing roughly 3 months into 2024, our most wanted RPG list has probably changed! So along with @davidvinc , here are three JRPGs that we want to play in 2024 - even if one of mine isn't coming out in 2024 anymore!

Yes! I always found that you have good chemistry together. The extrovert and the introvert ahah. 😁
Atlus is crushing it for sure. Now we just need them to release a title without remaking it again a year later and charging the same exact price as the original game.
I'm loving Persona 3 Reload so far.
Love collabs! This is awesome.
The fact that Squeenix hasn't built the Mana series into something rivaling the Ys or Tales of series is criminal.
I've played Sky 1 and 2 (1 in 2022, 2 in 2023) and I intend to play 3rd chapter in 2024. One a year is fine for me, I'll eventually get through it all.
Ys 1 came out in 1987 for the PC-8800.
Metaphor Refantazio looks SOOOOOOO good. I'm really looking forward to it.
Im all in for the new SaGa Emerald beyond game
Awesome collaboration!
Trails through Daybreak and Ys x are two games I am also highly anticipating this year. Both games will be introductions for me into these long running franchises. With the way both of your channels talk about these franchises in such high regard, I figured now is as good as time as any to test the waters for myself.
I don't think DecaPolice is delayed to 2025? Pretty sure it was delayed from 2023 to 2024. 🤔
My most anticipated is Metaphor!
You should do a podcast together. This was really great!
I'm a huge trails fan, who is not a fan of visual novels. I'm an old Silver age Marvel comics fan; Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas, Chris Claremont, John Byrness, Frank Miller, Steve Ditko, John Romita, and George Perez, the old-school, founding Marvel generation. Trails is a reverse engineered version of the original house of ideas; I see so many of the writing tricks that Stan Lee popularized back in the 60s and the 70s in modern trails games.
Trails is a lot, that's why it's important to not binge the entire thing at once, but to take breaks. However, Silver Age Marvel comics was also a lot; read, for example, "God Loves, Man Kills" and look at what Marvel was trying to do back in the 80s.
One character that I know Stan Lee and Jack Kirby would have become obsessed with is one Gilliath Osbourne. Osbourne is the classic silver age Marvel villain; there is a metric ton of Magneto in the Chancellor. Spoiler for Cold Steel: In his previous life, he was the world's greatest hero, in this life, he's the world's greatest villain, and the only difference between his two lives is that in his previous life, he had Valimar for a partner, and in this life, he has Ishmelga. That is the line between hero and villain, the man was exactly the same man, what changed was what history needed him to be: in his first life, the world was dominated by villains and needed a hero, in his second life, the world had plenty of heroes and needed a villain. What was he really? Stan and Jack would probably say that only Aidios gets to decide that.
None of that changes the fact that Trails is a lot, it's not for everyone, and it's easy to get burned out. The Phoenix Saga was also a lot, and has never been faithfully adapted in movie form because it's a lot and film people don't think mass audiences will be able to absorb all of it (The Starjammers, The Hellfire Club, and the Shi'ar Empire, all key parts of the Phoenix Saga, have never been show on screen in live action).
I don't know whether Trails is going to wrap up anytime soon. Kondo-san's recital of what percentage of the Trails series is complete have been notoriously unreliable. However, I do know that, when it ends, something unique will have been lost that we will never see again. Doing extremely inter-connected stories like Trails is a dying art, because it's so high risk when you don't know if anyone will like it or not. There will never be another Silver Aga Marvel, that ship has sailed. When the MCU was extremely faithful to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's original vision, it was the biggest success ever, but inevitably, the founding generation moves on, and others come in who do not have the discipline to stick to another person's vision.
I've commented to David before, but I do not share his optimistic opinion that there will be another trails after Zemuria is done. Falcom will still make games, but the birth of the Trails series comes from a particular point in the companies' history. I think that whenever the last trails game comes, it will mark an Avenger's End Game Inflection point: the story is done, the need to stay true to the vision also ends with it.
Other than the game mentioned, I'm really looking forward to SaGa Emerald Beyond. I've been warming up to the SaGa series last year and the announcement came as quite the surprise! I'm looking forward to how it refines the battle system from the previous game and if the scenario system will be closer to SaGa Frontier as I think it'll be.
Having freedom of exploration in these games and finding hidden lore or new characters to recruit is always fun! 😊
I need to look up metaphor reFantasio. The title reminded me of Ballin wonderworld, so I ignored it.
Metaphor ReFantazio is going to be amazing! Go look it up!
oh no you need to look into it. it actually looks good and made by a completely different team.
Two CZcams titans of industry, right here, you guys are the best!! I'm definitely excited to see more Kiseki titles and what Metaphor is going to be in the end. Love your choices you both had!
Visions of Mana hasn't left my mind since the reveal, and I'm still in awe that it exists.
And as much as I want to catch up on Ys, I honestly just want to jump right into Ys X, something about it is just hitting all the right hype for me.
Turn-based JRPG isn't dead. It's just hybernating until Persona 6.
If that were the case, we might be waiting a while! Fortunately, there's others that can pick up the slack!
Greatest guest star ever! 😁
Love you guys both so much, what a dream pairing for us jrpg fans! Keep up the great work guys.
Thank you very much! Glad to see that you enjoyed the video!
Awesome discussion guys, love seeing collabs like this ❤
When your bffs meet up!
💘
Children of mana was really fun lol
For me definitely Trails Daybreak, im not burnout of the series yet, let me have it
Also Eiyuden with not so close 2nd, just because it keep random encounter system, God why...
Reynatis, Vision Mana, SMT V gonna check what other people said first when release
I just started trails from zero. Thanks for your videos about fans doing a disservice by insisting you start with the other games. I only play on the switch so this is where I need to start! Only started last night 3 hours in and love exploring the town !
You're going to find out soon enough that Crossbell itself is the real main character of the Crossbell games.
👌🏾
So new trails is a stand alone ? I had no idea ! When is that released.
I'm hoping I can get a physical copy of azure
I'm not a collector I just like to actually own my games... seeing its marked up on amazon
No, it's connected to the wider trails universe, but you don't need to know much about what has happened already to jump in here. Returning characters from previous games include Fie, Zin, Rixia, Kilika, Walter and Renne. This game is the start of the Calvard Arc, so brand new country and all the protagonists are new characters (maybe we've seen Quatre before? That's a subject of debate) and this game will be far less connected to everything that's happened already than most other games in the series. This will be a fantastic jumping on point for new players, as all the lore does a soft reset with the first game of a new arc.
I imported Ys X then the day after it arrived they announced the western release 😂
That's why I stopped importing, to be honest!
decapolice is delayed to 2024 from original target release year of 2023.. you're both drunk.. 😂
Mm interesting point on wondering if the major fans of the trails series are big visual novel fans🤔
Ironically for me while I do love the trails series of games a lot❤❤ I do not enjoy visual novel games at all🙃 I can tolerate some VN in my games but not a lot.
I lost my patience with not getting cold steal 1 and 2 ported to the switch for the west😈 so I imported the Japanese versions as well as purchased a PS3 so I can play the games in English 👻 ( I played cold steal 1 and 2 a ton on my vita so playing the games in Japanese will not be a problem for me)
I got rain code thinking it was that deca police game ! Lol! Not unhappy but I have not played it. I hope it's as satisfying as ai somnium files. I really enjoyed playing that game with my bf
He took over the game haha. Maybe same will happen with rain code
Does David still stream on Twitch?
It not, he really should update his account to reflect that fact.
I'd follow the link to the Part 2 of this video and ask him there!
