Great Ocean Road Vlog Day 1 | Melbourne to Apollo Bay (Ep. 1 of 4)

This is the first vlog in this Great Ocean Road series, with 3 more to come showing more of how we split up our days for the 4 day itinerary. We’ve spent a bit of time in Australia recently but the Great Ocean Road is a bucket list trip for us, so we’re beyond stoked to be here ticking it off!
We kick things off with the drive from Melbourne to Torquay, the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, for breakfast. This is the official starting point and the first change to see the epic coastline we’ll be driving by for the next 4 days.
From there a quick stop in Anglesea before stopping in to Live Wire Park in Lorne. Live Wire Park is powered by nature, the first completely off-grid elevated adventure park in Australia and honestly turned out to be so much fun that we couldn’t stop smiling and laughing like kids! The Shockwave Zip Coaster is the real highlight, a 525 meter long zip line charged by the sheer force of gravity. check out Live Wire Park here - livewirepark.com.au
Then time to explore Lorne, a real highlight of the day for us (as far as towns are concerned), definitely somewhere worth leaving time to explore.
From there our drive onto Apollo Bay is something we regret not really covering, if you’re reading this for inspo for your own trip and planning your itinerary, just note (as we stress in the next vlog) the drive from Lorne to Apollo Bay is STUNNING!

That rollercoaster that's not a rollercoaster looked epic. It would shoot right up to the number 1 spot on my bucket list if I was planning a trip there! I also loved the concept of a ball pit in a suspended cargo net. When I was at uni, a local soft play area (that was an epic soft play area) used to do 'student night' on Tuesdays and I loved it, but the ball pits always grossed me out, especially knowing tiny humans had been playing in them, and goodness knows how long ago it was all cleaned. Anything gross can just fall through the net at this place! 👍
So true! Having the pit in the suspended netting made it feel super clean and fresh, though we were having such silly fun I think we would have launched in there either way

After the epic road trip in Victoria, perhaps consider a Southern Right Whales watch at the bays along The Great Australian Bight in South Australia during Whale Season from May to October. We took scenic Flight and boat cruise today, and saw lots whales with their calves, it was a magical experience, such gentle creatures.

I lived here all my life, the Great Ocean 🌊 Rd, finishes at the Victorian border, as you enter into Adelaide.
The views & Footage 😍 breathtaking scenery yes i think this journey will look beautiful which ever season you travel 😜

That zipline looked aaaamazzing!!! I've gone ziplining in Costa Rica and Roatan Island, Honduras. Fun times but none had twists and turns like this place you went to. Stunning views on the drive! Looking forward to the next vlog! 😎
I ziplined in Costa Rica too - probably the biggest and best zip I've done in terms of scale. But this one was all sorts of cool and unique

We did this trip last December so it was interesting to see/hear you take. on it. One of the craziest things we saw on this trip was a guy riding a penny farthing UP a hill. Honestly if the car cameras hadn't captured it I would have thought I was seeing things.

Harriet and I have been. A great choice The Great Ocean Drive. We drove it during the Aussie Summer . Late December, Early January. It brings back so many great memories guys. I'm a big scardey cat too, but I would absolutely do that zip wire! The whole place looked like so much fun! Course I'll never get to go there as its in Oz and I'm too too scared of spiders to even dream of going there! 🕷️🕷️🕷️
Haha well if it makes you feel better in our past few trips to Aus we haven't come across any silly big spiders, so you'd be fine!

there are loads of good food it is true - and yes, an official food trail! did you find the ice creamery in timboon? and Apostle Whey Cheese has some of the best blue cheese I ever had... either way I hope you had good weather
We did go to Timboon! Not sure if you were one of the recommendations on Instagram but there was a few and it was totally worth the stop! Whisky & ice cream for breakfast!

This was in August and was quiet and reasonable weather! Yeah unfortunately a lot of Aus and New Zealand have strict drone rules so there were lots of places I couldn't fly. Some of the shots are mine from the more isolated or random beaches, but definitely not from the main hubs

Great episode guys. Important question...Danger, when you call Stacey "Boo", is it actually "Beau", short for "Beautiful"?
Might sound weird but I actually had to stop and think about this as well. Because in my head it's most definitely not boo like something out of an Usher song, but it started as beautiful / babe and got shortened and now I think it actually is just ended up as boo but not really something we consciously think about... but I am now haha, yuck!
