Notice on all the home run trots, no stylin' and profilin'. A different class of players. Class being the key word. I'm glad I had the chance to see all of those greats.

This may be the greatest All-Star Game ever played. Six future Cooperstown enshrinees hit HR with four of them finding a Hall Of Famer on base (Stargell, Aparicio, Carew & Kaline). Ten different immortals scored the 10 runs.
26 individuals who would be inducted were there, including 21 players, both managers (Weaver & Anderson), another manager who served as a coach (Alston), a player who would enter the Hall as a manager (Torre) and an umpire (Doug Harvey). Amazing !!! ⚾

@@BIU2330 Yeah 😂, Thanks, loved the intended pun ⚾. I was 12 at home in Puerto Rico when I saw this game via satellite, my first ASG live (we had a Super 8 silent movie of the previous year's contest, with Yaz getting 4 hits and Rose barreling into Fosse), and when those 6 players homered I felt history on the making right away. Jackson had played winter ball here, with my Cangrejeros managed by Frank Robinson and Clemente was the skipper of the Senadores. Bench was a fan favorite in my street, Killebrew was one of the greatest power hitters in the AL and Aaron was pursuing The Babe. What a game ! Losing Roberto the following year only made this game even more special. Bendiciones desde San Juan 🇵🇷

I think you dreamed that, but I don't blame you 😄, I was 12 and wished the telecast had a lot of cameras available then, the same way they do today. The only one tracking the Home Run did a poor job, focusing on the fans seated at the upper deck and not following the ball, I suppose the cameraman wasn't expecting such a blast (no one was). ⚾

Met one of my Cubs heroes playing here, Don Kessinger at a minor league game outside of Chicago along with Jody Davis. They both signed our son's gloves, wish I had kept them, but the boys weren't really interested. Met Reggie at a local Pacific Beach bar when he was calling the WS between the Padres and Tigers. I was talking to him and a local about 5 minutes before I realized who he was. He didn't have his glasses on and wore his t-shirt inside out. Very down to earth, just chilling out like another local. Great memories here. Thanks for posting this.

I read somewhere that when Reggie was chosen to replace the injured Tony Oliva in the ASG, his teammate and captain Sal Bando advised him 'Don't embarrass us by striking out'. After two strikes you can see Reggie choked up about an inch because he was determined to make contact and keep from being struck out, still hearing Bando's words on his head.

Having grown up in the Detroit area, I remember this game well. This was the only All-Star Game won by the American League between 1962 and 1983 and I was so happy it happened in Detroit. The leagues had more stability and identity in those days. Most of the '71 NL All-Stars had never played in Tiger Stadium before. In today's game, several of one year's NL All-Stars will be on the next year's AL team and vice versa.
