Fjallraven (not Kanken) Raven 20L in depth review: EDC work laptop minimal, urban, city, backpack

- I love my little EDC backpack. It was hard finding a simple backpack that wouldn't look ridiculous on my small stature and that could still fit what I needed, a laptop compartment, a few pockets and just enough space. This Fjallraven Raven 20L does the trick!
Any updates on this bag will be written here.
I quite like this bag as my EDC & especially the fact that I don’t look ridiculous wearing it because it “looks” smalls so my fellow vertically challenged and petite friends, this is great. Customer service was not great though, I will say that about Fjallraven.
Let me know if you agree with me or not, if you have questions, or any comments!
If you're a bag company and wanna send me some sick bags, get in touch!

I just ordered this bag so I enjoyed your honest and thoroughly entertaining review.
Lemme know how you like it! Which color did you go for?
I’m digging the “not so popular that everyone knows” vibe of this brand.
everyone wants to be unique but like have the same stuff paradox
My girls' school is teeming with all the colours of the Fjallraven's palette 🤣🤣 It's like a staple schoolbag here
Low key
It’s so fun to see Fjällräven (The Arctic Fox) products abroad. Here in Sweden they’re widely known for producing solid quality backpacks and outdoor gear.
When visiting Massachusetts back in October 2019 I went to a mall with a friend, and one store had a whole wall filled with Fjällräven products. That felt so surreal to me.
I’m glad people enjoy them!
As a bonus thing, the letter ä is pronounced more like an e than an a. An approximate pronunciation would be “fee ell reh ven.”
Fee like in “feel”, ell like in “eleven.”
Nice review! Good to know that i am not the only research-before-buying-nerd! :)
Very nice thorough review. I might get this bag for my oldest daughter. You just got a new subscriber here 👍🏾
Awesome :) hope she likes it and welcome aboard 🚉
just bought this exact backpack & colorway for my gym bag but your look & the backpack fits you well 💯 Hairstyle on you is fire 🔥
Thanks bud 🤗
Consider one of those EDC organizers the tacticool nerds use. It has a slot for a little field notes size notebook and a pen and other stuff. Then it’ll be in a bigger pouch and easier to find! I’m way into the bags in a bag life! Everything in a pouch!
I loved your review sooo much! I’m buying this bag 😃
Yay! I still use it almost every day, it's my go to, until I one day replace it but so far I haven't had the need. I do small grocery runs with it! Day trips, everything! Let us know how you like it
Kind of funny, I was looking for a new backpack and after a lot of research (really I don’t think anyone else has ever done so much research for a simple backpack😂) I ended up with two favorite backpacks, the Raven and the Bellroy Classic. Now I found your video and your were also torn between those two :D
I have done SO MUCH RESEARCH Lol. I'm def not normal
I only went for this cuz of the discount I got haha. But I think if I got a tech day pack it would be an aer
I agree!!! Every bag should have a pen loop or pen holder
Great review ! 11:56 I was going to comment that 😂 I ended up buying the 28L. I needed more space to pack an extra change of clothes for work.
How has the backpack been for you? Do you enjoy it? Is it lightweight so you or does it feel big and large? Or even heavy? Been debating for a couple months now
Great review!!
Love and appreciate from Japan.
Great conversational review, loved it!
I’ve been using this bag for about two years now and your review was spot on. Where’s the damn pen holder?! Other than that, I have been thoroughly impressed ... so much so that I stopped spending so much money on other bags!
I stick the pen now in one of those pockets and cry a little every time I reach for it. I definitely use this bag a lot, it's my all around bag and a small good size and matches most of my clothes as well. Not exactly a technical pack but I'll bring it snowboarding with me
Good review , greetings from Colombia
I’ve had this backpack since grade 5 and it’s still durable in my grade 11 year. It’s my favorite backpack and the only problem with is bag is the water bottle space you mentioned, how water bottles doesn’t go in if the bag is full.. I use it as a school backpack and it’s actually perfect for me because my school uses electronics more than textbooks.
Great review. Thanks.
This would be perfect for my sketchbook and a few pencils and/or my iPad. Thanks for the review :)
that's definitely more than enough! although, since there is no pen holder (grumble) a pencil case is in order, but if you're out sketching, I assume you have yourself that and a set of drawing materials anyway! actually, I have this pencil case from years ago I love which "transforms" into a stand up holder!! Super cool amzn.to/3CiI1MI, that just gave me another idea for a video about some cool stationery I own.. hmmmmmmm 💡
@@GadgetsGearCoffee yesssss give me all the drawing and stationery content!!!!
Great review! I’ve been looking at this backpack based on a friend’s recommendation your review answered a lot of the questions I had about it. One thing a salesperson mentioned at the Fallravenstore in Ann Arbor is there is a full lifetime warranty on all products. Just an FYI for you regarding that issue you mentioned in the review. Zippers, straps, etc. anything is covered.
good to know! I ended up selling the bag, you may be interested in this bag as well (though fits a bit less) czcams.com/video/YT-vFsF59SI/video.html
curious to know what those questions you had were
@@GadgetsGearCoffee my big question was if this would be a good bag for traveling with a laptop, and how useful the water bottle pocket is when the bag is full
@@GadgetsGearCoffee Thanks for mentioning that the bag does not stay upright and the need for 2 hands to get into it
Great review! Kind of swayed me away because I'm huge about customer service too and you wanna have a reliable company ya know?? And the dye transfer kind scares me lol
fair, I try to be as unbiased and honest as possible with everything, you may be interested in my current EDC czcams.com/video/xfOhcW8P6xM/video.html
@@GadgetsGearCoffee I appreciate the honesty and was on the fence, so not just you that swayed me! Lol. I'll watch now!
Hah! I'm getting it because my backpack just got ruined on a trip to San Francisco!
nice review!! btw where did you get your hoodie from? It looks great;)
thanks! That hoodie is from The Gap, last Xmas, not somewhere I usually shop but I loved the quality/look
yeah fjallraven means arctic fox.. hence the logo
I don’t know why but that backpack reminds me of a northface backpack I own.
Hahah I’m the same kind of shopper as you. Hence why I’m here watching this video 😆
The crazies, we find each other 😂
Same
Guilty 👋
I have this bag and find that the shoulder straps really annoy me. Almost digs into my shoulders so I avoid tank tops. I usually carry the duck bag by baggu along for my stuff I need easier access to but it fits all my school stuff.
ya that's why I noted that, I usually wear a tee shirt so I'm pretty ok for that, although I did have the backpack on a hiking adventure and only wore a sports bra and I found it pretty okay, it wasn't heavy and I was out for 3-4 hours. Since I didn't pay much for it I'm happy, although if I had to buy an EDC today I'd probably get the AER day pack 2. AER SEND ME A BAG! lol
came to learn about the bag , i left having a crush on u
Loved your review so much!! im getting this bag. Have you taken this to the beach at all or for a day trip to a hike? Was wondering how you felt with your needs to the size!
not the beach but have taken it hiking and snowboarding. I definitely felt it was enough! But it's not the best bag for the job but I liked the size and I don't have a sweaty back so it works. Also, please consider using my links if you do purchase :) really helps small creators like myself keep going
@@GadgetsGearCoffee wow! Thank you for replying!! One more question if possible, but what do you think it was lacking for hiking/snowboarding or weaknsses?
& yes i will use your link :) I see it on amazon now
It looks like the link for the 28L broken
Phillips is going to give you a new base so you can keep buying more of their heads =P great review! Did you sew in a pen loop?
I sold the bag and got another ha, currently this one czcams.com/video/xfOhcW8P6xM/video.html but also have and reviewing this one glnk.io/y3ww1/jess_ma Apalka Metro, soon!
I like the colour! You said it is greyish blue?? But I can't find it except the colour named Dusk...
That's the color name, dusk! Which is a greyish blue :)
I was actually considering that model for an everyday bag. But decided to get the Timbuk2 Especial Shadow.
That's a completely different beast of a bag! That is a cycling type of bag, not minimal, more technical. If that fits your needs then perfect! That's the magic of products nowadays, there really is a bag for every purpose. What made you decide to go with TImbuk2 Vs Raven?
@@GadgetsGearCoffee I just needed a very simple bag for my work laptop, headphones, small umbrella and water bottle. Since the Timbuk2 was just 16liters, it was perfect. The Fjallraven being 20liters was a bit big for what I needed. I'm the same as you when it comes to buying stuff. Took me a week to finally decide after doing all the research and going to different stores trying out different bags. 🤣
@@d4bid15 a week is fast for me lol! Most of the time when I buy stuff without much research I regret it and return it, this is one of those times I didn't. The bag is still not perfect (for me) but that's probably an impossible feat unless I designed it myself but then it wouldn't be perfect for others! Well, glad you found a bag that suits you. I find even though they say Raven 20L is 20L, it's actually smaller than my other 20L bags so I don't think it's really 20, to me it seems more 16-18L
@@GadgetsGearCoffee Still considering getting one though for a more casual look when not going to the office. Palms are getting itchy again. LOL.
@@d4bid15 I know the feeling.
ive heard that the laptop sleeve doesn't hang and that when you put the bag down, the laptop gets easily banged up. what's your experience on this?
I actually addess this in the video if you watched it 😉 but yes there is a small foam but you still have to be careful
I might get this backpack just because you're so damn cool. I might end up not liking the backpack but I ended up wanting to hang out with you while wearing the same backpack. What? Lmao, thanks for the review.
Just wanna state that as a backpack geek I did find your review quite useful, I was actually hopping from this one and a bellroy classic too, those kind of simple bags since I already own a bit bigger more "ready for anything" type of bags (TNF, Timbuk2 etc...) I need something simple and this review was perfect since your vibe is just like the type of vibe I want on a bag, cool and straight to the point. Ok, this might be TMI but it's what it is. Thanks again.
LOLLLLL. What a comment! I wouldn't have bought this bag had it not been for my electric bike weird tourist discount thing.
But I do get compliments on this bag a lot. I was just out the other day and a lady stopped me to ask about my bag and my vintage hat. A friend of mine also got this bag when she saw mine. I do like it now tjay I have it and it fits surprisingly a lot. I think if I didn't have this one I'd have gotten the bellroy or the aer tech pack.
hey! do you have any preference for the 20L over the 28L? thinking of getting this bag but not sure which one to get!
it's really a question of how much space you need. I'm content with the 20L especially given it's smaller and doesn't look ridiculous on my back like most others
you are officially my only friend that has surpassed me in subscribers count, and although subs aren't everything, you're recent efforts and overall interest in video making makes me very happy to see this, continued success Jess!
awwwwww thanks Hovi! means a lot :) I want to do more but I also want to balance my full time job, family and social commitments and see this as a passion project. Maybe it will take me somewhere, maybe it won't, but it comes from the heart and so I am trying to not look at the numbers too much. I have other friends who started but do this full time and their stats are off the roof, but that's all they do.
you have a lot of friends who do YT?
@@GadgetsGearCoffee YT friends not really, would definitely help to collaborate if I did. I've put efforts on YT to a complete pause for the exact reasons you mentioned. My day job is all editing all the time so...
However, I do think I will get back into it. This time, smarter and better. It is definitely important to identify whether it is a full-time gig, passion project, side hustle, hobby or just for fun, and it could be a little bit of it all at same time until it reveals itself to be viable and sustaining, you do well not looking at the numbers too much, nevertheless, I always wonder, much like your friends, if giving it your all is truly what it will take to build a following/ community.
@@JohnnyShahinian there's many ways to go about it but ultimately if you wanna grow then ya you gotta dedicate more time. I'd love to do 1xweek but I'd have to give up my personal life and this would no longer be fun
it is interesting though to see after the first 100 subs, things started getting easier. I guess the algorithm is in my favor now
Nice! I found myself but Canadian and woman
Thanks so much! Would you suggest this size for a personal item on a flight?
Oh ya I'm pretty sure it's fine for that planes, double check but it's a great size for it, I've used it for planes. I've even used my current Bellroy (made a video) and it exceeds dimensions hehhe i just don't fill it if I need to squish it
some airlines have the tiniest of personal items allowed on a plane these days and this would exceed it so check your airline
thx for the video! do you agree with wirecutters laptop backpack list?
it's a pretty good list. I don't see Bellroy on there. There is no perfect list or bag, it all depends on your needs and situation so whether I agree with the list or not doesn't really mean much compared to someone else. Though I don't know why the Raven was there as a TSA approved bag other than size, it doesn't have a passthrough luggage holder or anything
Problem with this bag is that it won't stand up on it's own which is bad....otherwise its nice!
Definitely a drawback
Are they safe to buy on Amazon? I’ve heard there are fakes out
That's true but the seller looked to be legit and from the official company.
Thing with this model is though, it's not the kanken! So it's less likely they would make a fake for this Raven bag
Jess Cuz thanks
I came for the bag but I love the hair.
And sub and stay for the other reviews? 😁
Will you do a movie review of Cyborg Cop 2? Please?
LOLLLL interesting! I don't even know what that movie is but movie reactions is something I've always found funny, I'm considering it
@@GadgetsGearCoffee 1983's revenge of the ninja is also a A+ movie
The more I think about it the more this could be more of a fun add on via Patreon and a watch along so there is no editing required and I think copyright issues is less of a worry
do you have any recommendations for packing cubes? thx
for this particular bag? no otherwise, definitely Peak's packing cubes hands down
@@GadgetsGearCoffee Peak's over Eagle Creeks?
@@714SNF I don't have eagles creek, looks good too but I like the quick opening of the peak design & the dirty clothes separator on the Peak
Hello, it is the color "grey" or the color "dusk" you have?
Hi there, mine is the dusk! So far on amazon if you're in the USA, they have it in the 28L available amzn.to/3EaOx97
thanks :)
why didn't they cast her for Forspoken??(and made the game like, good)
LOL well thank you for that, I actually thought about becoming a voice actor at one point, I mean listen if you have connections, let's make that happen
They have a 28L
are you getting it?
Hi, is it 26051? Thanks
I'm not sure what that means, it's these ones

the bottom looks weak, really, and the back is not hard enough..
what if take this bag for a little walk and mix urban tasks/ outdoor....how quickly it'll die :D
I've had it for 2 years and use it almost daily, just took it for a hike too (I've taken it out on a few summer hikes and even a winter hike) , it's been fine so far but if you're not careful, anything you own will break. It depends on your lifestyle I suppose. I also don't need a hard back? It works well for me
It's not a bag for the outdoors
What’s the color and Liters in that backpack that you purchased?
It's all in the video! 😉
Marry me :)
