  • Literally translating into "woodpecker," pica-pau is a Portuguese snack usually enjoyed with a round of cold beers and bread for mopping up the sauce.
The dish carries the same name as the animal (wood-pecker), but it has nothing to do with it.
Its because, you pick the meat with a wooden toothpick.
Originally the dish is with small pork meat pieces, but beef is also an option.
The small meat pieces, swimming in a light gravy made with beer with garlic, olives, mustard and you can add some piripiri. Pica-pau is not complete without the addition of Portuguese style pickles (normally carrots and cauliflowers) and black olives on top!
    👉🏼 INGREDIENTS:
    - 450 gr of Pork (Tenderloin)
    - 200 ml of Beer
    - Piri - piri
    - 3 garlic cloves
    - 2 bay leaves
    - 2 tablespoons of mustard
    - Pickels
    - Black olives
    - some olive oil
    - some salt & pepper

Nother truly great recipe, my friend and it is so interesting to follow your channel because there are such huge differences in food between the North and the South of Portugal................. not a big country, very different traditions though! Do you speak Portuguese at all? I have tasted Picapau.... delicious and your recipe seems great too!

@@JessiKitchen Maravilha.............................. I lived in Holland when I first got married in my youth and the result is that I now speak fluently Dutch. Always great to speak other languages, and I speak a bit of German too. Maybe you saw my two versions of Abends Will Ich Schlafen Gehn.... not the best accent though! Hahahaha...

      @@FranciscaRigaud Fine! 🤗😊
      You sing great German.
      👍
But you can actually hear a little English accent. That makes the singing even more sympathetic.😘
