    I live in Raleigh NC and I like it. I moved here from W.V.A. I have also spent much time in South FL, and Tampa. a couple things I wanted to mention for those that have never been here: NC actually does accommodate 5 types of Palm trees. Wrightsville beach, top sail, surf city Beach, and Emerald Isle NC are full of beautiful palm trees. There are actually many in the yards of my neighborhood here in Raleigh. Several types of palm trees can withstand colder Temps at fall and winter season. Emerald Isle beach, surf city Beach are my favorites here. The water is Crystal blue/green and nearly white sand. All are 1 hour 50 minutes away. Then you have more beaches like myrtle and Isle of Palms in South Carolina, just slightly further away. If you've ever been in South Carolina, especially Charleston SC it is GORGEOUS. palms are everywhere. I work in Government here in Raleigh. Raleigh is a huge center for tech companies, institutions of higher education, legal, medical and government careers. It's a great diverse job hub here. Almost everyone I've met here is an implant. They are here from all over the country, mainly for work. One of my neighbors moved here to Raleigh from Clearwater FL. With institutions like Duke, NC State, NC A&T, etc... NC is a Great place for young professionals. The cost of living is also decent. There are plenty of beaches and as you mentioned, close to mountains also, so there is plenty of diverse activities to do. Arts and music is very busy in NC also. A short drive to Charlotte for more to see, and close proximity to other states for more variety. I Love Florida and long term goal is to have a vacation home of my own there. Maybe to live there a couple months per year and return to the Carolinas. But I personally prefer Carolina living on a day- to day basis. There are a lot of similarities between the 2 states. NC gets just as HOT as FL summers in Raleigh stay between 90 to 100 degrees. If you like a break from the humidity winters in Raleigh are not bad either. Typically mild. The southern hospitality and kindness of the people is one quality I like here as well. Strangers seem a bit more friendly in the Carolinas than I've experienced in FL. Great video. To each is own!! I tell ppl to Go where-ever your career & skill sets fosters an enviornment
    for you evolve and thrive. The rest will fall into place. ❤.

Having come back to Florida there are still things I miss about Charlotte and the awesome people there. I lived in Florida (Sarasota and Clearwater) for about 10 years, essentially the 90s, and have been living in Charlotte for the past 6 years. I prefer the weather in NC. Winters are quite mild but you still have seasons. Not as humid as Florida in the summer. I will also say there are more geographical options near here but it’s also one of my main complaints about Charlotte. The mountains are 2-3 hours away and the beach 3-4 hours away. Traffic isn’t as bad here as in Florida but there seems like there is less to do here. I think I live in the most boring major city in the country. When I lived in Florida it was a pretty cheap place to live and buy a house. From what I understand not so much anymore. Real estate prices are rising fast here as well but I think you can definitely get more house here for the same dollar amount. Also it seems less transient here than in Florida even though 1/3 the city is from up north. Definitely more family oriented and religious here. And even though it’s been 20 years since I lived in Florida there definitely more middle class black families here and less segregated. Maybe Florida has changed but I kind of doubt it. I didn’t hate living in Florida but I didn’t love it either. Can say the same about NC. I guess no place is perfect. Both have their pros and cons.

Both are wonderful places to live and I definitely miss FL but NC has so many similar things and new experiences so I don't get homesick too much. Florida is Paradise! I have lived here for the past 16 years, however, after 2017 when we had to evacuate due to the mega hurricane Maria it took us 40 hours sitting in traffic driving up on I75 to Tennessee. Florida is getting super populated and hurricanes continue to worsen every year along with the floods. We are considering moving out of Florida for that reason. Florida is a tragedy waiting to happen with the over population and not many highway options to get away from the state in the event of evacuation. As you said the highest point is 345 fee above sea level and the reality is Mother Nature is in control and people need to plan accordingly. Stay safe and God bless everyone

Me, I like to live where I like to live but I get it. In 2004 we had no less than 5 hurricanes in our path and it was ridiculous. But the winters down here make it all worth it to me. Thanks for the info! I'm evaluating the pros and cons of two cities: Sarasota FL and Raleigh NC There' are no hills or mountains in Florida and there are no palm trees in North Carolina, but i'm not a big fan of the beach. Also there are no Winter sports in Florida. But contrary to Raleigh, Sarasota seems to be a cute tidy beach city. Raleigh looks more like a college and high tech town. And last but not least, in Raleigh you get the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. In Sarasota, you get hot Summer all year long.

    • @BarefootVlogger
      @BarefootVlogger  Před 3 lety

      Hey J.E! You hit on some great points. I spent a lot of time in Raleigh when my son played hockey in Charlotte we would make the 3 hour drive for games and really enjoyed it. It's a great community town, definitely a college feel but more than that too. You have the Hurricanes that play there which are fun to go to. It's also got a great mall and some good outdoor walking spots. If you like the seasons and don't like flat and can live without the beach, I'd say this would be more your speed. You can always make the drive to Myrtle Beach and Charleston if you want to see palm trees which aren't too far. By the way don't discount Charlotte, it's a pretty cool town too. I don't want to misguide you, but the fact you aren't a beach person and you mentioned season I would lean NC, generally speaking. Thanks so much for watching.

      @@BarefootVlogger Thank so much for the info! I'm from Puerto Rico and i'm tired of hurricanes (that most of the time, touch Florida after they pass through our island.) I have lived in the States in two occasions. (some years ago) and got some land in Florida. (Lake Placid FL) I've never been to the Carolinas but know people who live in there. By the way, I know a family of Greenville, SC.(I've watched some videos of this city and it seems to be a tidy and cute small city.) Also know a person who lives in Asheville NC, the artsy small city nestle in the wooded hills on the western part of the state. As to Charlotte NC, it looks cool but is too big for my taste. That's why i think Raleigh would be a better choice, since it seems to be a medium-size city, and also the beach is just two hours away. And yes, i'm aware they have also had hurricanes in the Raleigh and Charlotte area, but perhaps once or twice in a decade, if any. (Most of them touch the coast outer banks, though.)

Cooler than most of FL, Has waves for surfing if weather is right. Not alot of hurricanes hit that area, I can transfer my job there to name a few. But I rather live in Tampa....so hard to decide! Lived near L.A. in Hawthorne and Redondo beach growing up and moved to oregon when I was 26. Now I'm 57 and my mom and dad and stepfather all passed away and my 2 sisters are now living in VA. I am dying to get back into the waters since oregon pacific ocean is too dang cold! Looking forward to my move next July if all goes well.

      Hi John, greetings from sunny South Florida! Can we call you "The Duke"? lol one of my all time favorite actors. Thanks so much for reaching out! Haha yeah my accent rubbed a lot of people the wrong way as you can imagine when I first got down here 37 years ago. Looks like we are the same age btw! Jacksonville can be a great spot to call home. It's got great sprawling beaches and coming from the Northwest as you do, the summers will be much more bearable than down these parts. Also, if a hurricane does happen to threaten, you can get out of Florida quickly and easily. It's also a good spot to head out to the mountains if that's something you like to do. Helen, GA, a great place to visit, is about 6 hour drive, not too terrible. You're also close to St. Augustine, Daytona and can easily visit Pensacola and the pan handle--even Alabama. I-10 will take you all across to New Orleans and beyond. Good choice my friend! Thanks for watching and please subscribe to the channel if you haven't already (YT doesn't always tell me lol). Reach out any time if I can help provide any info during your relo research. Thanks again Duke! 😎

      @@BarefootVlogger thanks for the very nice comment. Jacksonville area is one of the reason why it's my top 2 pick...the other being Tampa. so that if a hurricane comes I can get out of there in no time. All to many times I seen on the news cars running out of gas on the fwy trying to flee the area and I felt JAX was a great escape into GA. Plus..I LOVE the Pacific Northwest mountains/camping and GA is nearby so it would be close...but one of my dreams is to go beach camping on a island off FL.. I've seen many of them on my Honeymoon back in 96 out of Miami..thinking how cool that would be. I have a friend who lives in St. Augustine and my Aunt who was burn in NY lives near Ft. Lauderdale tell me of their plight trying to evacuate. Here in Oregon we don't have that stress when it comes to weather. I guess I'll have to learn to get used to it. The MAIN big reason for moving is cost of living. Oregon is getting bad and if I move to FL I can buy a house and be mortage free saving $22,000 a year. Add move savings form income tax. In oregon when you retire they still tax you!!!!!! Maybe I can meet up with you someday..and I am a subscriber to you. Can't wait to watch all yer vid's.

    I live in both. I'm very fortunate. Both states have their pros and cons. As for groceries, Raleigh has a much better selection of stores than South Florida. It's grocery shopping heaven in Raleigh by comparison. I absolutely can't stand Winter, so Florida definitely wins that one. I choose North Carolina in the Fall and avoid the worst of Hurricane season in Florida. I don't mind the Summer in Florida for the most part because there are fewer tourists.
    This video is 3 years old now, and South Florida's housing has gone insane, and insurance is completely out of control.

    Loved this video! I’m from Michigan and the minute you showed snow outside a NC home I knew NC wasn’t for me. I’m the type who loves subtropical everything every day !! And here I’ve spent living 26 years in sorry, sad, wintry, grey skied Michigan. That said, I do feel sad about leaving my fireplace behind 😅 Now I gotta decide east vs west coast of Florida! Decisions decisions 😅

    I lived in both places. The only advantage NC has is the geographical terrain and climate diversity like having Mt Mitchell the tallest summit east of the Mississppi, the tallest sand dune on the east coast at Jockey's Ridge State Park and the 4 seasons (seeing the leaves change in Fall while sipping on some good old fashion NC apple cider). While living in NC carolina I enojoyed staying at the beach house right on the beach at Emerald Isle Beach (much affordable than renting one in Florida) and a weekend get away over looking the Blue Ridge Mountains off the parkway absolutely breath taking. The Biltmore Estate (filmed in movies) owned the Vanderbilt family in Ashville is huge (gotta check out the winery). The place looks like one of the palaces in France or England fit for a royal family. My time was great there but I had no reason to stay long term since I have no immediate family staying there. If I had to choose something in the Carolinas long term by the beach along with walkable streets and history it would be hands down Charleston Est 1670 the South's version of a mini Boston. Now not everything in Florida is new either. St Augustine is the nation's oldest city Est 1565 by Spain waaay before the English settlements along that colony ranging from Boston to Charleston (minus NY originally settled by Dutch not English). My family heritage was one of the early settlers in the town of Philadelphia (before it actually became a city). Eventually migrated further south. Love history...sorry for the long spiel.
    What about California?? It too also has mountains, beaches and some 4 seasons to an extent. Yes, but the Pacific Ocean water on a California beach is not only colder but not as clean along with some of the nastiest brown smog I've seen that sits in those valleys around the LA area and stuck on the nation's king of freeways wtih rush hour all day long.. no thanks. Love to visit again in the future but I couldn't live there.
    However, since I grew up and lived in South Florida I'm going to be biased. The South Florida culture like food (gotta have my Cuban food and espresso fix) , music (the South Beach style dance club vibes, clothes etc.), and people is what I grew up with. As for sports, you're never going to get me to root for the Carolina Panthers over the Dolphins, Bucs or Jaguars. Baseball? I'll root for the Marlins but ultimately the Chicago Cubs and Wrigelyfield (Wrigleyville) for life. The Bulls because of MJ. Back in the day I use to hit the clubs before South Beach was a bigger name tredning around the world post Miami Vice and Scarface. I'm also a big fan of art deco and the colorful neon lights which makes it unique. South Beach for me is like America's version of Ibiza in Europe where a ton of tourists from abroad come to party on the beach. Yep, it's what you grew up with. As a former of resident of NC, I do miss those mountains though and the best scenic drive during the fall along the Blude Ridge Parkway. I do want to plan on another trip to the Biltmore Estate for another bottle at vinyard winery and hang out with the posh elites. (J/K). My favorite home in NC. The castle or palace. Absolutely beautiful.

      @BarefootVlogger  Před 2 lety +1

      Very well written and said Itravel thanks for that perspective. I think you nailed it. Be hones though I really don't miss NC or the mountains. They're great, absolutely beautiful but I'd much rather be on the beach and personally never tire of it. One day I might head up to the mountains maybe around the holidays to see some snow and build a fire. I always appreciate that.
