    Thanks for stopping by! This is an old video - we are now full time in our Grand Design XLS 17MKE and have traveled through over 35 states! The Alabama Hills camping regulations have changed a bit in the last few years - so we opted to go here on our last visit: czcams.com/video/SERJKUxkfNA/video.html

      Thank you! It was kind of funny, but I googled images of Fossil Falls and YOUR photo came up! We went to Fossil Falls before Alabama Hills. Let me know if you are coming through Ventura and have any spare time.

    For the past 12 years we've visited Lone Pine every October for the Western Film Festival. They play old movies in the HS auditorium, have panel discussions with actors and film site tours in the hills. The area really fills up with visitors. Fun to see you there.

      We do too! And in such an interesting place! We really try to get out as much as we can. I work full time and Jim owns his own business (and I do his bookkeeping), so our time away is needed and precious. It is all we want to do... just explore!

      Oh hey - missed this comment. Yes, you definitely have some pretty rock formations in the Havasu area, plus that water! Been boating there a few times and had a gorgeous late afternoon sail on a friend's small boat there - was warm and so great to have fresh water when sailing!

    • @TravelSmallLiveBig
      @TravelSmallLiveBig  Před 4 lety +3

      Hey - it's been a few years since I posted this video, but I think it was pretty grim for cell service there. We had to go in to town to get if I remember correctly. We did have it at Taboose Creek and I think Tuttle Creek - I may have mentioned it in those videos.

    I'm curious if it is easy to drive in and find a spot without getting stuck on a road you can't turn around on. Or do you really need to unhook to scope out your spot? I'm new to this and really just want to drive a little ways in... then leave hiking for further exploration. Also, wondrering how cold the night time cold was... I'm going mid April. :)

    • @wellsfirst64
      @wellsfirst64 Před 3 lety +1

      Just came back from there. Super easy to drive in and out of most of the sites, there are a few camping sites that look pretty inaccessible to trailer’d vehicles. I took my 2WD truck and had no issues. I tried staying in my tent throughout the night but wound up back in the truck to warm up due to 30 degree weather and major wind chill.

    • @TravelSmallLiveBig
      @TravelSmallLiveBig  Před 3 lety

      We haven’t been there in a few years and have heard it is a popular spot these days. We didn’t have any trouble finding a spot and turning around - there were wide spots in the roads. The further we drive in past the arch loop trailhead the more “washboardy” it got. We were there early March and it was cold! Not sure about April, but it has to be better than March! Hope you have a great time!

    • @TravelSmallLiveBig
      @TravelSmallLiveBig  Před 6 lety +1

      Probably in the 90's and could get 100 degrees ~ we were there in March so we were cold!

    I find it better if people don't camp at the Gunga Den bridge site so other people can take pictures with no rigs in the view. I found 2 large RVs there on one of my many visits to that sight. I found it hard to show my friends the site without breaking my rule not to encroaching on camp sites. You seem very nice but just saying. There are a lot of sites around the area.

    • @TravelSmallLiveBig
      @TravelSmallLiveBig  Před 5 lety +1

      That is a good idea! Unfortunately we didn't know it was the Gunga Din Bridge site until we were already there for a night or two. We had people drive up there and we would invite them to drive through and that was before we figured out where we were camped. The other spots down below looked rather full on our visit, so I walked up the hill, it seemed to look ok so we parked there. Then after going to the Film Museum I figured it out ~ so it was too late, but that is a nice suggestion! Thanks for watching Michael!
