Help a one animal = take away part of the suffering from all the abused animals. So still depends on individuals! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, dear*
@mama T ....well, Stfu might be a bit harsh, but hens will always produce eggs as part of their natural functioning. I don't quite understand the vegan stance: are all hens supposed to be destroyed as a result, or kept as pets with the eggs discarded? This seems antithetical to me. What is singularly important is how they are farmed without cruelty, with humane collaboration and support.
@@2eleven48 all free range eggs are still killed when their egg production declines. Also all male chicks are ground up alive or gassed to death because males can’t produce eggs. That’s why people go vegan
We've adopted 18 tortured hens 8 weeks ago and they are recovering marvellously well. The joy that they bring is heartwarming. See my first youtube... search for "Rescued Hens from Egg Farm the First 6 Weeks PART1 " If we all stop buying cheap chicken and eggs and skip mcdonalds it's a good start.
beautiful video, these chickens are happy and free like has to be, few of them are in bad shape, but they will be healthy, good job, and congratulations to give these beautiful creatures a second chance of live. MIKE SANTI
The egg industry is profit driven. I have been raising hens in my backyard for a few years now and I feel better knowing they truly have a good life here with us. We don’t cull because the girls don’t actually stop laying. They just take a break for a few months and then go back to it once they get their nutritional needs satisfied. It takes a lot out of a hen to lay and sometimes they need a break. It’s a shame the industrial side of agriculture sees only the amount laid and not the quality.
If possible, purchase *pasture raised eggs,* y’all. Free range are better than cage-raised, but they’re still put in cramped uncomfortable and dangerous environments. Pasture raised are more like the farm chickens that should be raised, because they’re allowed to roam and forage rather than just being out of a cage- and into another cramped building with thousands of other birds...
Brilliant job guys! I hope that they enjoy their new chance at life and you enjoy their company. Chickens are great, they all have their own little personalities and they can be incredibly affectionate or downright psychotic depending on their mood. They are like daft little dinosaurs sometimes. My grandad has a smallholding and has had free range chickens since before I was born, when I am on holiday I go and help out. I used to have a cockerel that would follow me around, he would fly on to my shoulder unexpectedly and crow really loudly then settle down and sit there happily until I had finished my jobs. If he found me lying under the cherry tree he would plonk himself down right next to my head and preen my hair while the other juvenile males basked in the sun around us. He was a proper little companion and I miss him dearly. There have been loads of other personalities over the years but he was hands down my favourite. You may well be experts already but if not I have a couple of suggestions, feel free to ignore them: I don't know if these girls are strong enough yet or if their feet have been permanently damaged by their previous living conditions, but a perch might do them some good eventually. My grandads chickens get locked in to a similar sized barn at night time when they are not roosting in the tall hedge or on top of the barn. We put in a couple of sturdy wooden poles (an inch or two thick) between opposite walls and the chickens all choose to fly up to roost unless they are sitting on eggs. A perch often allows them to feel more secure, away from all but the most determined rats. If you do end up putting in a perch, make sure that the poles are sturdy, secure and the chickens have enough space to get up and down without smacking into a wall. My grandad has them so each end is resting in a deap wooden "v" shape on the wall so you can easily lift the pole out any time you need easy access. Hens from battery farms tend to have weaker immune systems and are more likely to have diseases and parasites so it is a good idea to keep a close eye on them initially and keep them away from other poultry until you know that they are healthy. If they have access to the outside world then a dust bath may help them to deter parasites. You don't need to get anything special as the chickens will find a dry patch and scratch away until they have enough dust to play with. Chickens also need plenty of calcium in their diet, especially if they are still laying eggs occasionally or if they are recovering from a stint of intensive laying. Calcium is used for egg production (especially the shells). Bird bones are hollow to reduce weight and while they are usually fairly robust, a calcium deficiency will make them weaker and prone to fractures and breaks. Ground shells and grit can be purchased but you may well have it incorporated in the food already. Sorry, you may well have lots of experience with chickens and know way more than I do so my suggestions may be unnecessary. There is a similar rescue scheme up by my grandad and it attracts newbies and experts alike so so my grandad occasionally gets asked for setup advice. The enclosure looks fab and I am sure that these lovely ladies will do well
Chickens are decent people, there are alternatives to chicken meat but most humans dont know how much suffering they go through to end up in the meat store.
When my laying hens get too old to lay I let them retire, and I treat them as if they are still my best chickens, I give my chickens the best life I can, and I sleep well at night, I believe there is a very special place in Hell for people that abuse animals.
Pam Nosworthy Hi pam my ex battery hens have never roosted, been rescuing them for eight years I made a roost and none ever used it.... Not used to it I am guessing...
szaki it wasn't a farmer pretty sure it was a factory farm and they were used for egg production but after a while they stop laying eggs and aren't of any use
It was a rehoming centre that helped the hens find new owners after being kept in cages as egg machines for all their lives. We gave a donation and collected as many as we could.
I applaud what you've done. However, this term 'free range' is very questionable in the UK. It's far too loose in interpretation. What you and I might understand by the term, there is still, largely, muddle and twisting of language by large-scaled egg producers (and, indeed, from some small-scale ones as well). Google this situation to understand just how much still needs to be resolved.
This world is already graveyard, as God Shiva, our spiritual Father, says. He has already come into this physical world, in the year 1936., to establish the new kingdom of paradise as He did it in the previous drama cycle, 5000 years ago. Only 20 years remain for us here to become pure just like we were when we came in this drama cycle from Nirvana, the soul world. In order to become pure we should imbibe this one method while alive, God says to you, my dear brother soul, too, "My sweet child, consider yourself to be a body-less soul, a star-like point of light and remember Me, the Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul, God Shiva alone, in My eternal Form of the Star-like Point of Light and all your already accumulated sins and vices will be easily dispelled and you will be able to return back home, to Nirvana, the soul world, with Me." Hens kept in cages as egg laying machines. They often lose their feathers due to stress and are kept in very poor conditions

szaki Retiring?
Free range chickens do not have the standard of life that you think they do if you're telling people to still buy eggs...
Free ranged hens are very healthy and happy compared to this! Free ranging is the best, most humane, and should be the ONLY way to keep chickens.
Why do they look so terrible with their feathers and such terrible condition?! I’m surprised they were able to lay eggs At all.
The stress caused by being stuffed in cages caused them to lose their feathers. They can grow back after a while out in the open.

Must be nice to be so affluent that you can afford to keep food animals as pets instead of eating them . . .
But they don't have a own place, every chicken have t have a little house and it's not clean
