    The whole time I've been watching this video, there has been a smile ... in my heart! The deep joy inside me seeing these dear little hens enjoying their lives as they should and not being used for what they can produce. They are very smart and know many things and are capable of having feelings; in this case, feeling love and being loved. I wish I'd be one of the people I see here rescuing them. It's I believe around twenty years I don't eat chicken or beef. Thank you guys so much for doing this work of love!!!!!! ❤🐓🐔🐣❤

Because a bigger number of people don't take it anymore. As long as we don't buy cheap eggs and meat, we can accelarate this positive trend. I know how you feel about your hens. Last spring a hen showed up with five chicks. I started feeding them. Lost one to a hawk and now have four more that have shown up this winter. I go out the back door and.my nine guests are waiting for me. They follow me as i feed our rescue donkey and llama. Then they get fed. They are not the least bit concerned about me or my wife. But if a stranger comes by, into hiding they go.
    When the little hen showed up with the babies. Our Lab got too close and the hen put her on the run pecking at her rear. She developed a respect for the chickens rather quickly. Now she is friendly with all the flock.

    In the fifties, our friends in Honthem had a small farm. Cows, pigs, chickens. Lots of chickens. The eggs were sold in Maastricht. Unlike the prisons in which chickens are now tortured, they ran free in the meadows, in the farmhouse, into the kitchen. They had small boxes for laying eggs in secured enclosures for the night because of the foxes and other predators. Eggs were all collected by hand and it was very labor intensive. A large building was used for hatching eggs and the chicks were sold off to other farms. The farm is now closed, the buildings are still there and the large building for hatching eggs has fallen into disrepair. I now live in Tucson, almost downtown. One of my neighbors has chickens and two huge turkeys. Another one has a flock of ducks which like to go visiting and the small Volkswagen garage uses Geese as watchdogs. The nickname for the neighborhood is hippieville.

      Coincidentally, we have a meadow for the sheep in Honthem and we live in Maastricht :-)
      We live in what use to be a barn full of pigs and cows and my dad turned it into a home in the seventies.
      The farm from the fifties you describe, is typical for that time. And sounds like heaven on earth for the animals. Animals were kept with more respect. (Allthough rabits allready were kept in small cages, if i remember correctly) If you still have the address in honthem, I would love to take a peek ;-)

    Absolutely stunning. You have beautiful birds and a beautiful soul. I’ve rescued 100% of my animals, but it turns out it’s hard to rescue chickens in the US if there’s not a rescue in your state. The egg farms here don’t sell them to private individuals :( if anyone has any advice on rescuing chickens in the US I’d appreciate it. Hope to see more of your babies.

    Leuk, Kippen zijn hele leuke vogels om te hebben. Soms wel een beetje rommelig maar dat hoor bij ze. Super gaaf om te zien hoe blij ze ook daadwerkelijk zijn mensen! Ook worden de hennetjes super goed verzorgd. Misschien ligt het wel aan mijn maar ik zie dat ze niet echt een "pecking order" hebben. Kan komen door hun leven als baterij kippen. Veel pleizier met de vogels en de andere dieren die jullie hebben rondlopen.

    been there and done that and what a truly rewarding thing it is , mine were from a free range egg producer so not quite as poorly as yours , makes one think about the appalling cruelty in modern farming ........... the part they don't show people on things like 'countryfile'. Well done to you , by the way you can loose a lot with gapeworm unless you feed flubenvet twice a year as it's very prevalant with all the pheasants around. cheers mike

    i’ve got three rescue chickies a few months back that were abused / neglected. two of them seem to be okay but my main girl, pearl, has a lot of issues with her breathing but she’s really attached to me and i do everything i can to help her which seems to work really well ^ ^ thank you so much for these videos, what humans to to animals for their own gain makes me sick to my stomach so it’s really nice to see there’s people out there that genuinely care so much for these small creatures ♥️

      @ivanilia  Před 3 lety

      Sometimes they have breathing problems indeed. Molly had a pneumonia a few weeks back and luckily she survived thank's to a lot of anti-biotics. (last thing I could do) She was really breathing difficult and her tail went up and down almost constantly. We went to the veterinarian. Great to hear your hen seems to get better. Goodluck for Pearl 💛

      I absolutely would if it was possible. Unfortunately we're not allowed to breed with rescued hens because it takes a lot of energy from the hen. When hens leave the egg industy they allready consumed half of their life energy. Sometimes even more.
