Aston martin fell off hard. McLaren were good but too late and even when they were faster tan mercedes it was the smallest margin like mercedes would still be the 3rd fastest car and they never had a car as bad as the mclaren in the beginning of the year. Hamilton’s driving over these past three years has given me so much respect for his seven championships. It wasn’t just the car, the car was simply good enough that it was never a performance bottleneck. It was Hamilton (and Rosberg) who took those Mercedes cars to seven consecutive titles. Put Bottas and Perez in those cars for seven years, and I doubt they win all seven championships from 2014 to 2020.

    The Car competition at the moment is insanely close especially between RB and Mclaren. The RB20s operating window means its the fastest car when it is in its zone but the Mclaren is the fastest all rounder, ferrari suffer from similar problems to RB but again have a very quick car and Mercedes follow them with another great all rounder.
    This is definitely a season now where driving talent is the deciding factor and even despite Mclarens upgrades.

    I have never under this, "Lewis is only winning because he is in the best car" sentiment. He joined F1 in 2007. Won at least 1 race every single season except for '22 & '23 (and not always in the best car) where Mercedes was dog shit and Lewis was probably mentally messed up by how he lost that 8th championship. Recent conspiracy theories also point to sabotage within Mercedes to get his out, with Max being their target.
    How this guy forced himself to continue in a sport that let him down so much is beyond me.

    I think Max and Lewis, when they had driven Norris car from Imola onwards, would have won all those races (Imola, Canada, Spain , Silverstone etc etc). The past 7 races or so really shows that winning championships is more complicated than just having the fastest car. Norris problem is his mental instability, his lack of decision making, ability to read the race, communication, more so than his driving skills. Don’t agree. They had the fastest car in Canada. Russell just threw it away in the race while Lewis underperformed in qualifying.
    In Spa, Mercedes were the 2nd quickest behind Red Bull. Mercedes low-downforce configuration was way more efficient than McLaren‘s who were incredibly slow on the straights and couldn’t make up for it in the middle sector, given how much wing they took off. The only reason why Piastri caught up to Lewis rapidly was because of Lewis being held up by George.
    McLaren is still very inefficient under low-DF configuration and will have a tough time on tracks like Monza & Vegas.

    Even though the points say otherwise, I would actually go on to argue that George has been the better driver this year. Lewis has been made to look better due to George not having the chance to fight for the win in Silverstone due to his water leak related retirement, and in Spa his win was taken away due to his car being underweight.

    • @greenfj1466
      @greenfj1466 Před měsícem

      It's true that george has been the better driver. He was completely dominating Lewis before Spain but since the car couldn't get too many points back then the points gap couldn't become too big and as soon as the car becomes good for 5 races george got a dnf,dsq and the awful management in hungary quali which is the reason Hamilton is ahead. It's a fact that george has been the better driver(so far). Hamilton just got lucky the mercedes couldn't score so many points early on

    • @Roxas-ph3te
      @Roxas-ph3te Před měsícem +1

      @greenfj1466 While this is true, I'd push back on George's luck being the only reason he's fallen behind Lewis. In Silverstone, he went with less downforce so he could get better dry pace, and while the DNF was unfortunate, even if he finished I believe he would've come 3rd at best because he wouldn't be as quick as Lewis in the wet with his setup, he most likely pits after Lewis, and has to be on the soft vs Max on hards and Lando on softs. Max definitely still finishes 2nd with the better tyre.
      Hungary, while Merc made a mistake with George with underfueling and releasing him too early, he messed up his first lap while Lewis didn't, and that cost him dearly. Not to mention, Lewis almost got knocked out in Q2 that weekend so there's a good chance George might've been eliminated there as well. George also finished behind Perez in the RB while Lewis finished ahead of Max so I'd say Lewis just performed better in the race.
      In Spa, Lewis was practically flawless on race day. It was Mercedes not denying George the 1 stop that gave him an advantage when in reality he was nowhere for most of the race. Lewis had wanted to do a 1 stop but got rejected the night before the race so George was very fortunate to be allowed to do that strategy on the fly and in the end that also cost him because he pushed too hard trying to keep Lewis behind when Lewis only started pushing 5 laps before the end because Merc had not told him George was a threat with the 1 stop. If both did a 2 stop, which would have prevented George from being DQd then he would have finished 4th at best.
      So while you're right that George has been the better driver this season, let's not dismiss the recent results to pure luck for Lewis and bad luck for George. George has had his fair share of good luck in the past just like how Lewis has had bad luck, for example the Austria win he inherited while Lewis had a damaged car that race or the US gp DSQ last year, or Brazil 22 when George benefited from his own accident in Q3 forcing Lewis to start lower and then Max hitting Lewis in the race dropping him down the order giving George time to build a gap, timely safety car at Australia 22 and Miami 22 puts him ahead of Lewis, Hungary Q3, George gets pole while Lewis has a DRS issue which drops him down the order, Abu Dhabi 22 DNF.... luck goes both ways

    • @greenfj1466
      @greenfj1466 Před měsícem

      @Roxas-ph3te Před měsícem +1

      @greenfj1466 True. But you also never mentioned Lewis's good drives either as a reason for the points gap. Even when Lewis wasn't in form, he usually finished 1, maximum 2 positions behind George. And if the car was better early in the season, Lewis would have been more comfortable and performed like he has now earlier.
      In terms of the points gap, Russell likely lost 25 points if we're being optimistic (3rd at Silverstone, 4th Spa on a 2 stop to prevent DSQ, Hungary is impossible to judge maybe 2 to 4 points more), which leaves him behind Lewis still

George still deserved that win due to his clever strategy, even if Hamilton was the better overall driver that weekend. And let's not forget that Lewis had a nightmare race in China where he shouldn't have gotten any points but the safety car bunched up the field and a lot of drivers ahead of him retired.
