  • The Groin canyon is a very beautiful canyon that is also commercially guided. At the entry point of the canyon there is a small "traffic light" which is either red or green. This only points to the power plant situation. If it is red, do not go in. If it is green, still make sure to check the water level.
Le Groin is very aquatic, with a lot of swimming sections. Due to the cold water the camera kept fogging up. The camera had some white-balancing issues, which makes the canyon appear a little more green than it really was at times. Unfortunately some animals had died recently in the canyon when we were there, so jumping was off the table for us. Otherwise there are a few more jumps available.
Near the end there are some "stop-signs" in the open part of the canyon, where we thought we had to exit. As we learned later, you can bypass these and still do 2 or 3 more rappels.
There is one siphon / strainer that you will have to pass. In the video it is marked briefly. Even though it is not far or difficult, you will be scratching your head if you did not know about it before. The bolts to go over have been removed for some reason.
    Parking: 45°52'28.1"N 5°41'15.4"E
Ascent: There is an option to use a second car to get up. You can then park at the entry point: 45°53'05.8"N 5°41'18.5"E.
Otherwise, head west from the parking area, cross the river (Le Groin, check flow) and after about 150 m head right onto Rue des Charrières. Follow the road until the end, where a trail starts headed north between two houses. Follow the trail up to the D31 road, which you follow northeast. Cross le Groin again, then head left and cross it once more. Just after the second bridge, a dirt road on the right leads to the entry point. 35 min
Descent: Lots of swimming in cold water, a few rappels, some nice jumps if the water is clean, and a few siphons (one completely submerged). 3h
The way back: we took the wrong exit. Continue a bit further and find your exit on the left. 5 min
