  • Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina sentenced ex-Team USA doctor Larry Nassar up to 175 years in prison for sexual assault.
"Because the crime, all of the crimes, the depth of them have cut into the core of this community and many communities in all of the families and people we don’t even know," Judge Aquilina said about her decision behind the sentencing.
She called handing down his sentence a "privilege."
"I just signed your death warrant," she said.
More than 150 women came forward during his sentencing hearing to tell their stories of Nassar's abuse.

While i totally agree with the sentencing and punishment Nasser received, i think it was out of line by judge aquilina to clearly take it to personal level. " I just signed your death warrant " etc was out of line because we all know he will die in prison , but she wanted to rub it in. In the worst case this can backfire and the defense can use this as fuel for an appeal that the judge was biased and had a preconceived opinion.

Crazy people give many signs like talking alone (for long periods of time), shouting to animals, telling dirty jokes at formal dinners, etc. I am not judging anyone who didn't expelled him sooner, but I think that in the future there should be a psychiatrist in the Gymnastic board to read all these signs in every member every now and then.

She also handled the sentencing correctly as well, she was very calm about it but got the point across. My hope is that this judge continues to perform her best work and impact lives.

Some of these comments criticizing the judge for being "too emotional" are loathsome. She was completely professional and did her job as expected. She is also a human being, and wanted to express her anger and disgust. I fear that a few of the posters who made negative comments about the judge are either being misogynistic or thinking that the sentence was too harsh. Or both. This man is a serial abuser who showed no signs of regret or likely rehabilitation. Any and all apologists for Nassar need to sit down and shut up.
