  • Randall Margraves addresses a swarm of media with his daughters standing behind him (from left, Lauren, Madison, Morgan and wife Sharri) about his actions of rushing toward Larry Nassar during the second day of his sentencing in Eaton County at Grewal Law office in Okemos, Mich. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. After apologizing to Judge Janice Cunningham she did released him from contempt of court. (Joel Bissell | MLive.com)

I feel terribly sorry for him and his daughters.
But I wonder, just how good was Nassar at deception for a parent to not realise that something fishy was going on? It’s like they put way too much trust into strangers to handle their kids. Regardless, I hope he forgives himself.

He often shielded with his body so the parents couldn’t see what was going on. Many of them were in the room when this happened. He had been doing this for decades so he perfected his grooming techniques where he was considered above suspicion.
I get what you’re saying and I kind of don’t understand mentally how it is possible... but the blame lies with Larry not the parents. Any decent parent that knew wouldn’t have allowed it to go on on their watch you know? In a way I don’t get it, but I do.
I hope he forgives himself too.

@@liamtubsy3767 I really wonder about the whole culture of pushing these children into an obsessive search for athletic perfection, irrespective of the damage it does to their young minds and bodies. I can appreciate that that level of athleticism must bring some degree of fulfilment, but how much of a child's life is sacrificed to attain a goal which logically, very few will achieve? It is in this atmosphere that predators can hide.

Nassar is already in custody, already handcuffed, already going to spend the rest of his life in jail. Assaulting him in prison will prove what exactly?

Mavic: The courts did its due diligence and demoted this decorated doctor to the demise and disgrace for his deleteriousness. He could be allowed to encourage other fathers or victims in displaying violence in the court room. We need to quell situations wherever and whenever they may occur -- not to justify acts as this, otherwise, the courtroom and places of justice would be overwhelmed with acts of "righteous indignation." In this case, justice was served. He should be thanking the courts for their industriousness -- not showing dissatifaction and ungratefulness.

PokariSweater he's not a dumbass, he's a vigilante. He believes that this guy had every right to attempt to murder Larry Nasser, and you know who else believes that as well? The Judge. In American law the judge has the final say, and since the father didn't bring a weapon in his hand, or actually say that he was going to literally murder Larry Nasser the judge can then decide if the father had murder in his heart since their was no clear evidence of murderous intent, unless of course the judge wants to start a separate trial for the father. Instead, she decided to hold him in contempt for a courtroom disturbance and then waive the contempt in exchange for the father's apology. Do you see how the law works now, you ignorant, pedophile enabling, pseudo intellectual internet troll?

My sister was sexually assaulted 7 years ago. I have seen the pain it has caused her and my father over the years. Mr. Margrave's statement sounded just like a statement my dad gave last year after my sister shared her experience at a Take Back the Night event. I can only imagine that he and my sister are seeing these same news stories and being affected in similar ways as Mr. Margraves and his three wonderful daughters today.
I can't condone what Mr. Margraves did yesterday, but I 100% understand and sympathize. I know I've dreamt of bashing in the head of the monster who hurt my sister. I know my dad has done the same. Even though we know it would have only made things worse for us all. I know that what he did was out of pure love for his daughters and that most any parent would react the same way in his situation.
I wish the best for his family. It won't ever be the same, but there can be a new normal. He can strengthen his bonds with them. And they will have the support they need to heal and grow and live again. He's right that they are the heroes. They and that monster's other victims have endured more than most of us can fathom. They are strong people for surviving. I wish them all the best. And I wish for a future where we see less and less news stories like this because the monsters are found and plunged into the darkest and most isolated prisons possible.

I agree with you. I don't condone what that father did, but I do understand it, and I don't judge or condemn him for it. It seems many people have gone to one of two extremes; those who said that what the father did was right, and those who judge him for it and say he should be punished for it. I disagree with both of those extremes. In my opinion, the father shouldn't have tried to attack Nassar, but he shouldn't be condemned or punished for it either. Sometimes extraordinary circumstances can push people to do things that they shouldn't, and would normally never, do. The officers who tackled him did the right thing; they stopped him from doing what he was intending to do, while at the same time showing him empathy and understanding.

I actually support all of those on the judicial side. Day in and day out they hear these horrific stories which must take a toll on them too. It has to be tough for the court officers. You know they are parents and would want to kick the snot out of many of these defendants. But, they do have a job to do, primarily maintaining decorum in the courtroom. However, I most definitely would not be able to contain myself, and if I was the father of these girls and I was in the room with Nassar, I would turn it ( I call "him" an "it"- Nassar is a cretin...not a man) into a horizontal slab of meat.
The criminal justice system is littered with stories of injustice. It only takes a rehashing of any of these infuriating stories of victims wronged by the system, or the defendant, to turn a simmering pot into a full-blown boil. Mr. Margraves reached the boiling stage. Yes, Nassar is in jail until the day "it" dies either naturally, or by prison justice. I am hopeful "it" is delivered to good ole Satan by a painful example prison justice, via the receiving side of a rusty, six-inch steel shank embedded in "its" kidneys.
If you are someone like me who believes in karma, I think that everything truly does happen for a reason, including the results of this outburst. Hopefully, this horrific situation fortifies the relationship between Mr. Margraves and his daughters. From what I have read, he and his daughters had a strained relationship prior to him becoming aware of the abuse. Somehow he has to come to terms with all of this, but what can he do? So, he will turn this into something good and let justice be served.
