    loved the review, mate!
    I was on Homey (not the pro version, which was only recently released) up until a couple of years back and used to love it. Now on Home Assistant, which is a beast in terms of features, compatibility, community support, etc. but as any home assistant owner knows, it's a great path to 1) family divorce and 2) bad sleep habits - I challenge any HA user they've never been up till late to fix issues such as broken devices, flows, etc. or even figure out how implement and perfect a new automation!
    With Homey, I could easily do basic automations from the phone from anywhere and they just worked! (and for the advanced stuff....yeah, of course you need to be on a proper keyboard and screen!)
    you nearly got me to get back into Homey world until....welll, the integrationd doesn't actually work! ooops! I don't discard one day going back and compromising the power of home assistant in favour of the Homey Pro simplity, yet decent amount of power!

One concern is the fact it took you 5-6 times to pair a Zigbee device, that makes me believe that those devices will drop off the zigbee network after sometime, I would suggest it would be due to wifi interfence. My main issues were:
    No dashboard support, well you could use a third party one, but you can't customize it.
    Limited device support. The developer support isn't as good as, for example, Home Assistant.

      @SiegersNL Před 8 měsíci +5

      Most of this is solved in the last weeks/months, there is an unofficial dashboard that works great and is getting better by the day, the app always worked locally if there is an internet outage (for years already), if a device isn’t supported yet (and isn’t a really a strange unknown thing) there is mostly an integration for it (zigbee and zwave devices are all supported with the standard functions, on/off, dimming, etc). I have Google home devices with Google assistant, which is less useful than a pile of bricks.
    Question is, using the homey pro with Google assistant... Will it improve commands like turning on lights or music to certain devices? At the moment i ask Google to play music and it adds a banana to my shipping list 😅

    I like this but I’d say that Hubitat might be the strongest choice for someone who wants the power of home assistant without the hassle of dealing with the pi.
    I say this because the Hubitat forums are filled with support whereas Homey might take some time to get there.

      Hubitat is a good choice for those who used SmartThings and want to keep using WebCORE and have everything run local. Homey is more user friendly than Hubitat.

    I think that all makers SHOULD conclude an agreement to have standardized protocols, in order to avoid having to buy, for example, a new control unit for each and every hardware device added to an automation system. I don't which to live the same nightmare we had in the 80s and 90s ; having a bunch of remote controls that have the same commands, but different codes. The result? Tens of millions of RC still working, that goes to garbage for incompatibility reasons.

  • @TheRiehlThing42

    I switched. Went from Home Assistant to Homey Pro. I still have Home Assistant on my home network, but it is mainly used to help get devices that aren't in Homey Pro apps, over to Homey Pro. I struggled with getting automations to work in Home Assistant the way I wanted them too, and decided to give Homey Pro a try with flows. It has been great and love it! I didn't know about it until saw this video. All of my flows just work, it's nice. I like tweaking them, vs Home Assistant, where I really didn't like trying to tweak Home Assistant. I'm always looking to try some new fun flows in Homey Pro. I have my theme music playing (Imperial March, of course) for me, and if not home, "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" when my room goes active. I just make sure that before I purchase something new, it is part of the Homey Pro network, and so far, most of what I've wanted to get, is. Think Nanoleaf Essentials is about only device I have that isn't part of the system, for things like playing scenes. Nanoleaf Shapes have scenes, so that works.

    I'm surprised about the many price complaints. To me 400 isn't that expensive if it saves me a bunch of time compared to building a Home Assistant setup. I mean, we've all spent much more on sensors, devices, smart lights and speakers anyway. I know I have.

    I feel like saying "Home Assistant Yellow Doesn't even have Zwave" is a little disingenuous. Yes, directly out of the box, that specific piece of hardware doesn't but, it's not like HA doesn't support Zwave at all. Zwave support in HA is rather robust, as you know.
    And if you're comparing features; I'd rather take an internal adapter for Zwave like the Z-pi 7 than having to use a dongle just for ethernet.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  Před 8 měsíci

      I’m talking purely what it has out of the box. I have a Zwave stick connected to Home Assistant and it works great.
      Some people just want to buy a hub with all the antennas included.

    I have run both Homey Pro (the ball) and Home Assistant. Both have its pros and cons, so it’s impossible to just have one.
    The good with homey:
    Works better with Aqara devices than HA
    Connects to a lot of things
    Easier to use
    The bad with Homey:
    No dashboards
    No template sensors (that I know of, please correct me with a solution)
    Price
    No good energy dashboard. The one that exists hasn’t been updated since 2021 and isn’t very good.
