I get to work on these engines often at the shop (I work for Cummins)....hands down my favorite engine to look up parts for....very simple design, very reliable engines.

If you ever had to pay the repair bill for brakes, you'd be using the engine brake as much as possible. Using service brakes too much will cause them to overheat and fail, won't be able to stop. Then what?

I drive a triple road train here in Western Australia and *never* use the jake brake. You're on flat ground with a single trailer. Guess all new drivers need to start somewhere.
Doesn’t seem to have any weight on. Sometimes you forget to turn engine brake switch off but this bloke intentionally changes gear with the engine brake which is pointless and sloppy.
Its a life style... here in the u.s. we make anything as loud as we want and as fast as we want legaly. (Clears throat) with the exception of california.

I shift with Jake all the time. No telling how many dumb ass drivers I see come to these mountains and try that low rpm no brake on shifting and stall out or can't get a gear. And they usually don't have that much weight on! US old mountain log truck drivers will show ya how it's done and not even tear out the clutch or rears!
