Who needs Santa Claus when you can fill your stocking with $40,000 of Christmas audio gifts. You'll particularly like the Audio Physics, Audio Research, and the VPI turntable. Maybe the Krell cd player will show you that cds can compete sonically one on one with lps, but you might need something a little better than that. The 3 problems though with spending all that $$ on equipment like that is:
    1. Once you get to the highest levels, the sound quality just reaches a certain point, and there isn't much improvement anymore; just different. It's like no matter what equipment you hook up, the sound quality ends up at the exact same old destination. Limited really by the limited quality of the source material.
    2. You can't hear more than one system at a time.
    3. It's hard to find buyers where you can make an easy profit generally, and often it's a lot of work just breaking even.
    4. That stuff takes up a lot of room.
However, most people of modest means WISH they had those problems. Maybe there could be a show called Audio Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous....Happy New Year!

I live in the Tampa bay area, the local Facebook marketplace for vintage audio sales is a daily event and sort of endless!
Congratulations on your purchases ,enjoy and have lots of fun setting it up and getting it going again !

About spikes on speakers & racks.....................................
When used on speakers. they're described as a "coupling" feature. When used on hifi racks. they're described as a "de-coupling" feature.

LOL, true, but in my StereoNiche mangling, "isolation" sounds just fine and is effectively the same. But, should I do a video of the stands going forward, I will strive to use the most accurate terms! Thank you for pointing it out and HNY!

OMG! Like Gag me with a spoon! LOL! Saying Lol at 60 years old is sad & "most accurate" is a little bit pregnant.
I asked "StereoNiche" a sober question and I'm rebuffed with out-loud laughter?
You understand acronyms. Well here's one. WASP & they'll be the men left without a country.

Yes they are. I've had them prior, will need to do the standard refoam on them, but I will certainly do a review once they are ready.

Looks like fun. I'm lookin' forward to it! Especially the tube gear with an eye to the Fisher. You should keep yours open for a second and pair them with the AR 3As for an insight into-top shelf hifi of their day and a comparison with high end hifi of today. Thanks!

Most people who own both the AR3 or 3A along with the AR5, prefer the model 5. Those with AR 3 speakers, who sent in their warranty card, were sent a letter in the mail from AR, offering to update the 3 to 3A status, with it's improved dispersion, for a modest cost. The 3 was designed mostly by Ed Vilcher, while the AR5, released in 1969 was designed by Roy Allison. It avoided the bass heaviness that some credited to the 3's, and the crossover was better, resulting in a more seamless sound. The woofer was different also. The AR 1 (much rarer) and hearable on a CZcams video with Golden Tube amps reproducing a female vocal track, was their ultimate speaker for sound quality back then. One listen and you can hear why While sounding good on classical and good on some Jazz, the popularity of rock music made people lean more toward the West Coast sound, more than the New England sound as far as speakers, where the aggressiveness of rock wasn't portrayed as well. You definitely don't want vintage AR speakers for rock. After totally dominating the market, with a 33% share, their sales dominance lessened in favor of speakers with the West Coast Sound like JBL & Infinity
The speakers of the 1960s generally had more warmth, and also more cabinet resonance which exaggerated warmth further, as internal cabinet bracing was not yet in vogue. The old speakers generally sounded less sensationalistic and more true and honest compared to many modern speakers, which go for clarity at all cost, and there often is a disadvantage sonically, like thinness & being overly analytical. Which is too bad, as many modern speaker drivers are inherently cleaner with less distortion and could be better utilized.

Well, hopefully finding a match to the Fisher will not take as long as finding the match to the Craftsman 500! 10 years to run across one in the wild. I have almost all of the early AR series, 1, 1W, 3, 3a, etc. all the way thru to the 7. I just need the 9 to complete my collection and I have an original owner that has agreed to sell me his system, so if we come to agreement, I will have them all. The 1W set I have also includes the Jantzen (sp?) electrostat tweeter that was commonly paired with them back then, so that will be a very interesting review.

I said on another channel it's surprising at how many deals you would get on audio equipment in the South. More specifically: Hit the small towns first before the big cities. You would be amazed at what you will find tucked away in cities with the population under 60,000.

I've found gear in the craziest places. Crawled through attics where I thought I might fall through to below, dirt floored crawlspaces, you name it. Always fun finding that rare item.

How to you get leads to find the gear in remote locations? Going on vacation in the west or other places, I know advertising on Craiglist and other sites does not always get results.

So do you sell this stereo equipment after you've gone over it?

    • @stereoniche
      @stereoniche  Před 6 měsíci

If I decide to not keep it in my collection or it is a duplicate, I sell it. I typically list a large number of items and try to sell it over a weekend.
