Passing CAPM in 3.5 weeks for $10 (+test taking tips!)

  • I just passed the CAPM exam, and it only took me 3.5 weeks and $10 (plus the test fee) to do so. In this video I'll go over some basics about CAPM, the study materials I used, what I would have done differently, my test taking experience, and lastly some general test-taking tips that are useful for both the CAPM as well as other standardized tests. Hopefully you'll find this useful, since there's no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to study strategies.
    The CAPM certificate is an entry-level exam for those working in project management that is earned by passing the CAPM exam, a 3-hour long test. It mostly deals with project processes and terminology, which can seem intimidating at first. However, as long as you put in the time to learn and study, the CAPM test itself isn't terribly difficult.

    Amazing! Thank you! I work in mortgage currently & had to take the NMLS exam several months ago, passed first time, which was also 3 hrs & I hear a lot of commonalities here. Highly recommend to take multiple practice exams for endurance, like Bec said, also there was an audio I listened to consistently, so something I'll do here is make an audio for myself going over the terms & listening to that throughout the day. It was amazing to be able to make dinner, go for a walk, & just go about your day while passively letting things set in. I'd also made an entire doc & added comments etc. Literally all the tips she's giving I got for my NMLS exam, which many fail the first time, Bec speaks facts!

I hope that I can get my certificate in a month or two following your guidance. I admit though that I have a leg up since I previously had my PMP in 2005-2008 timeframe. For those of you that don't know, if you do get your CAPM it is an advantage in getting your PMP as "Earning your CAPM certification means automatically meeting the 35 hours of project management education and training required to sit for the PMP exam."

    First and foremost, thank you so much for this video. Also, congratulations on passing. I am in a situation where I have been working as a PM for about a year. I am interviewing for a new job a few days from now. During the phone interview they had mentioned that they would like to pay for my CAPM certification. This is good in a way but it also puts pressure on me because if I fail I would imagine it would look really bad. I usually score really high on exams where I have unlimited time but I am usually the last one to finish. I am a very slow test taker. It seems like if the test is timed my mind scrambles and I think about that throughout the exam rather than the content. My plan is to study tirelessly so everything is in my head thoroughly to give e more confidence when I actually take it. I haven't even gotten a job offer yet and I am stressing which indicates how my mind works. I really want this job and I like that they are willing to pay for my certification which I know will be beneficial to me. Are there any prerequisites to taking the exam? If you had opted to take the test in person how far away would you have to have traveled?
    Thanks for this advice. I appreciate the time it took to do this and your knowledge and encouragement.

    • @BeconFire
      @BeconFire  Před rokem

      The CAPM has no prerequisites except I think you need a high school diploma or GED, so it's great for beginners. I don't think failing would look too bad - lots of companies sponsor much more difficult exams. Although the company might not pay for a second attempt, it really depends where you work

      Definitely write the terms down, especially if the meaning isn't obvious - a lot of questions rely on knowing the vocabulary and terminology of the PMI

      I plan to take the PMP test in a few months. They are very different - CAPM is for beginners and easier. PMP is much more difficult but also more respected

    An eligibility criterion to take the CAPM exam is to have at least 23 contact hours of project management education completed before the exam (according to the PMI website). Do we not need to submit proof of that completion to take the exam? Does the Udemy course fulfill the requirement?

      The Udemy course she recommends by Joseph Phillips, was updated to reflect the PMI CAPM exam changes in 2023. Everything she says in this video is still very much valid. Fantastic advice.

    You passed CAPM exam and still do not know what PMBok stands for? This is what is wrong with certifications. Just because you get a certification, doesn't mean you know your shit! Paper certifications aren't a sign that you will be successful at your job.
