Tuukka Rask trade from Toronto to Boston was a prime example of trading off a young player too soon.
Wasn't that trade for Raycroft too? Absolutely terrible trade for Toronto
@@MMGJ10 yes it was xD And good call juho
@@MMGJ10 did they think Justin Pogge would pan out too or just thought Raycroft was that franchise tender?
@@bradleyhenry2411 Raycroft had a good season before that trade. Then his ability to stop pucks seemed to disapper completely :D
Meanwhile, Rask is top-5 in goalies in 2010. I mean like if you had to choose "Team of decade" I think you have to have Rask at least #3.
@@santerikoho1579 He went 8-19 before he got traded. Leafs should have kept Rask, he looked good in the 06 WJC.
The Flames rly traded Brett Hull, dumped St.Louis and traded the pick away that became Brodeur and picked Trevor Kidd 😭
but the players calgary got for hull helped calgary win the cup a year later in 89, and hull didn't get along with terry crisp
idontgivetkachuk The Flames could have just picked Brodeur!🤷♂️
2 words that gives Caps fans PTSD: Filip Forsberg
@OVain. Bruins have done good w/o seguin and its on the list AND that trade got Predators to the stanley cup final
@OVain. Same goes for the Sundin trade. The avs ended up winning multiple cups without him.
@OVain. What's dumb is your logic here. It's still one of the worst trades in recent times. Forsberg might've helped them get a cup sooner or maybe even a couple by now. It's undeniable that he would've made them a better team.
I was expecting to see that one.
If we had foresburg we would’ve never gotten TJ oshie !!! I’m happy with the team
I wanted to see Patrick Sharp on here :) traded very early from Philly to Chicago, became a top six forward sniper and a major contributor to three Stanley Cups 2010, 13 & 15. I lack the slightest clue what Philadelphia got in return, other than being beat in the 2010 finals, in which Sharp scored 4 goals in 6 games.
Interesting story, Jarome Iginla was originally drafted by Dallas Stars, but they treaded him without playing a single game
However, they acquired Joe Nieuwendyk
for him who helped them win the cup and became play off MVP
I wonder how things would turn out if they kept him though.
This is the one I was expecting. Pretty suprised Seguin made it here before Iginla
Hindsight really, but I think Nieuwendyk was a better player and got the Stars a Cup. Something Iginla never did. Iginla was great no doubt, but I feel Joe was a more complete player.
And Seguin trade wasnt really a shock. Seguin's antics off ice was really creating a rift with management. Something he's struggled with at times in Dallas as well. I mean, didnt the owner call him out last year? Seguin is a great player but too much of a "rock star", has that "me first" mentality. Which sucks because the dude has skill. But I wasnt surprised Boston traded him. I was more surprised at the package they got in return.
Tom P
Something inginla never did? He fuckin carried Calgary. Put hull and modano on the same team as jarome and see what happens.
Phil Esposito - 3 seasons with the hawks until he was traded to the bruins
I mean are you kidding me Brett hull given up by Calgary that has got to sting
calgary gave up st. louis and hull, they sucked
@@user-fc6xn6zb9y They traded Marc Savard early on in his career too. Didn't really get much back for him either in hindsight.
David Fleckenstein they traded adam fox to carolina also
@@jacobkanta1096 Not to say Fox won't have a solid career, but St Louis and Hull are Hall of Famers, and Savard was one of the best playmakers in the league during his prime.
@@user-fc6xn6zb9y st. louis was probably a bigger impacted to the flames sense they lost to Him and the tampa bay lightning in 2004 cup finals
Flames: Brett Hull, Martin St. Louis, Martin Brodeur (draft pick) :-I
JS Giguere
Great list, there are so many examples that it is very hard to make a top 10, but this one is really good!
published on my birthday! Thanks for the great content man keep it up!
Whoever is reading this have a good day!
I've had good day clock is 20.14 in finland
Same to you
You too
Thanks bro!:)
Same to you man
I suggest for inclusion: Senators trading Mika Zibanejad
I somewhat agree but I think we need a couple more seasons to see if this season was a one time thing or not
@@keyes_calvin he had a 74 points season last year still , even if he dont always get season like this year, 70+ is enough to be on that list
@@keyes_calvin he was on pace for 50 goals this season? Does that not qualify
How about any Senators trade in the last 2 years?
I clicked this video expecting that lol
On the Seguin one, apparently he was partying a lot and slept with one of the player's fiancees.
Nathan Horton's wife specifically.
@@maxpowr90 Yeah and during the 2011 cup Zoom call Seguin didnt talk and Horton wasn't there
Shaedon Shergill wow didn’t know that 😳! Kinda makes sense then. Wouldn’t want tension like that in the locker room
@@jaythehabsfan9119 Fans crap on Chiarelli for that trade but people didn't know that was happening in the locker room. The whole "but does he fit into the team's culture?" was him essentially addressing the situation. Even Seguin said the trade was a wakeup call to change his ways.
maxpowr90 ya I know I thought he was just dumb tbh. Don’t get me wrong I still think he’s a bad gm but in this scenario wow that makes sense and no one should crap on him for this then
Plenty of chose from:
440 goal scorer Rick Vaive from Vancouver to Toronto
740 goal scorer Brett Hull from Calgary to St Louis
Lots more.
Calgary didn't so much as give up on Hull as he was the price they needed to pay to get Ramage and Walmsley. They knew they had the offence but needed some back end help, and Ramage/Walmsley were a serious upgrade.
What about Roberto Luongo with The Islanders when they traded him away
Olli Jokinen too
they only traded him because they thought rick dipietro was gonna be the guy
ł they thought wrong
OfficialMike Mike yeah
@@SharksAttack and Todd Bertuzzi and Zdeno Chara....
Love your channel dude keep up the great work
Great video! Thanks!
Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat is my favourite trade of all time
Quebec has Sakic, but also had Peter Forsberg, which is why the moved Sundin. The Clark trade led to them getting Claude Lemieux, and they won the cup in 1996. I think they are ok with trading Sundin away.
As a Rangers fan it's good to see us on the right side of one of these for once. Just the ones I can remember Amonte, Kovalev, Zubov, weight, JT Miller. I'm sure there are many more before I started watching hockey.
Another reason Sundin was traded was the trade that took Peter Forsberg to Quebec. Sakic, Sundin and Forsberg would have been tough to handle three that good centers and icetime.
It’s an absolute sin that you don’t have more subscribers. I feel like you’ve been around this amount for so long. You should be at least 200k by now
As for Sundin, the Nordiques/Avalanche won the Stanley Cup two years after making that trade so it worked out. Also, they had Peter Forsberg in the system so they felt Sundin was expendable.
Mats Sundin and Alexander Mogilny played together and will never be forgotten by me and other hockey fans. This was incredible to witness this combination and should be spoken about.
Sundin was so clutch when it mattered most
He could do it all hit, pass, get back he was a great Captain
Sundin a Legend ??? I DONT THINK SO !!!! So overrated
? No cup, no major awards, never lead in any category, often out of the playoffs, played a safe game, lack of dominance, Am I missing something here ?
I always thought when the Red Wings traded away a young Adam Oates for a well past his prime Bernie Federko. Yikes!!! I know Maclean and McKegney were also part of that deal. How much better the Wings would have been if Oates would have stayed? The Wings were just starting to climb that ladder to the cup, with Oates, perhaps a cup or two more?
Absolutely agree. As a Red Wings fan, the Adam Oates trade for Federko was the worst. I will also add on the Jimmy Carson trade with Edmonton; for Adam Graves, Petr Klima, Joe Murphy, and Jeff Sharples.
2013-2014 habs would have been so good with McDonagh... smh
Vincent Côté ya he might’ve put us over the top, but we r the habs so we r cursed so idk
You should do a video about the trade Eric Lindros - Peter Forsberg, worked out pretty fine for Quebec/Colorado and not as fine for Philadelphia.
I noticed u did the goalie that played the most quiz. If I did that for players (so player that played the lost minutes that season) would u play it?
Nobody seems to mention my Bruins trading Joe Thornton early in his career. He went on to consistently being one of the top point getters in the league. An MVP and (eventually) a first ballot hall of famer.
Because Thornton was already great with Boston.
The Flyers:
Lindros for many, but specifically Forsberg.
Patrick Sharp
Jeff Carter
Mike Richards
Sergei Bobrosky
Justin Williams
Nasir Amaru trading Richards and Carter directly helped LA get a couple cups. (I know we didn’t trade carter to LA, but he ended up there. )
Yo how’s it going, I like ur input on the nhl and I’d like u to make a couple videos on the Canucks, since I am a life long fan from Vancouver. I wouldn’t mind ur take on the prospects they let go and the over caliber of the 95, 2003, & 2011 seasons and the new team that they have now
This video is gonna slap, Connor. I clicked instantly because of Sundin. In his time with the Leafs from 94/95 to 07/08 he was third in points!!!
Jagr 1280
Sakic 1065
Sundin 987
those were some lonely leafs teams after the lockout, too. Dead puck era too
DownTown Sports Sundin was a monster!
A HUGE one is Chicago trading Artemi Panarin to the Blue Jackets after he showed insane chemistry with Patrick Kane and won the Calder. It was mostly a cap dump but still crazy to think he got traded for only a decent winger in Brandon Saad, an AHL/backup goalie in Anton Forsberg, and fifth round pick.
Agreed. They should've kept Panarin AND Teravainen as well. Both players will maintain in their prime for years.
No mention of Ken Dryden? Drafted by Boston, and back stopped Montreal to 5 Stanley cups(including 4 in a row) not to mention his role in the 72 summit series!
With a name like Miroslav Satan, he should have played for the Devils. What a missed opportunity
And wore #6!!
😂
But didn't have the defensive qualities to be interesting for the "full trap" system Devils played
I used to put him on the Devils in the old NHL Genesis games lol
THANK YOU for reading Miro Satans name properly, he is not a devil :D
Also he was an amazing player and very inteligent guy, now being our GM for national team....
You know what would really have been funny though? If he'd, at some point in his career ended up playing for the New Jersey Devils! The puns regarding Miroslav's name would have been overwhelming! Not only would have have then actually been a devil, but he would have been THE Devil!
*wamp - wamp - wamp wa-aaaamp*
I know, that one was bad.
@@Seriously_Unserious and if he wore #66
Miro helped us win a Cup here in Pgh!
Brett Hull, Roberto Luongo, Jarome Iginla, Cam Neely, Martin St. Louis
The stars won the cup shortly after with those players they traded Iginla for, so it probably was worth it.
The Iginla/Nieuwendyk trade happened in 96.
Tyler sagggin lol gotta love how you say his name
Thank you for reminding me of Tyler seguin
Imagine still wearing the helmet at 2:51 in today’s NHL
I Snipe Bardownski or 4:10 😂
That Jofa model was used in the NHL as late as 2014 by Selanne
Ilkka well he’s Teemu Selanne he can do anything he wants he’s a hof and started in that era
Wore my old Jofa a couple years ago in a roller hockey league..... It was older than some of the guys in the league...
Once we had english in school and we did power point presentations about nhl players and i Did on sundin
2:05 Joe Morrow is not with the Winnipeg Jets, he’s a free agent and is playing in the KHL
The Leafs gave up on Alex Steen. That one still hurts.
How about Rask for Raycroft?
im a leafs and i think all the dumb trades the made still hurts leafs management sucks.
@@huohization Grrrr. Now you're just twisting the knife. Next you'll mention the draft pick to the Sharks for Teskola that became Logan Couture.
@@thehersheybar6827 I hear you brother. I feel your pain.
@Shawnaldo75 I will concede. You know your draft picks.
Schenn and Simmonds at that time stings because the Kings were building something special before 2012, but in the end i was wrong. Also Carter going to LA somewhat gave them 1-2 Center punch and solidified them as a Cup Contender. In my opinion Johnson was pretty much done in LA and needed a fresh start elsewhere. Two Cups plus playoffs year in year out 8 plus years ago, Not Bad at all. Let's rebuild and hoping we move up at least 2 or 3 spots- Lafreniere, Byfield or Drysdale.
This video includes Mats Sundin. Instant approval!
You should do the best player to wear each jersey number of all time
I thought the Taylor Hall trade would be there for sure.
Sundin was a great player on the biggest black-hole in the NHL. Maybe even professional sports.
While the Avs, won Stanley Cups. Clark did only play 37 games for the Nords yes … in a 48-game season!
the bit at the end of bob kinda sounds like nhl 20 commentary.
Another example of a team giving up on a future NHL superstar was the Dallas and Calgary trade in 1995 which included Jarome Iginla going to Calgary and Joe Niewendyk going to Dallas. The Stars drafted Iginla 11th overall and traded him within the third month of the 1995-96 season. It worked out for both teams ( Calgary was rebuilding at the time and Dallas was only looking to get better at the time )
only worked for dallas because they won the cup and calgary was nowhere close to winning for iginla's entire career.
gimmick Nowhere close? 2004 ring a bell?
Philly traded Peter Forsberg for Lindros before Forsberg ever played a game for the Flyers. Forsberg went on to be rookie of the year in Quebec. Next year, 95-96 he scored 30 + 86 in regular season and 10 + 11 in the playoffs, winning the cup for Avalanche. Later hall of famer, art ross trophy winner etc. He'd be on my list :)
Come on! How did Peter "The great" Forsberg not make the list? Philadephia traded Forsberg and a bunch of players for Lindros. It's pretty safe to say that Peter had a lot to do with Colorados success. Don't you think?
Lindros forced the Nordiques hand by refusing to sign with them so you can't really fault the Flyers GM for trading Forsberg to Quebec. Quebec had to get a return for an amazing player in Lindros. it just ended up really helping out Colorado because Lindros didn't have a full career because of injury and Forsberg did.
@@keyes_calvin I am actually really thankful för that trade! It helped Forsberg to have a monster of a career. And also become one of the most memorable players!
@@dvorgur by the it was all said and done, the trade came down to Lindros for Forsberg.
That trade got the Avs two Cups. Assets aside from Forsberg led to Hedjuk, AND a goalie, had a decent career...Patrick Roy.
I’m a flyers fan and I agree on this. My mother calls lindros Melon head after that one hit to his head he wasn’t the same.
Ohnyguist: penguins trading Markus naslund to Vancouver
Me as a pens fan: ARE YOU KIDDING ME
As a Canucks fan I'm glad he included Naslund but forgot about Cam Neely lol
We can thank Tom Barrasso for that trade. He was notorious for torturing young scorers who embarrassed him in practice.(Which Naslund did) Tommy B did the same thing to Aleksey Morozov a few years later. Since Tommy was Mario's golf buddy, Craig Patrick kept Tom and by extension Mario, happy. Barrasso was a completely shit human being as a teammate.
Cool. Thanks
I learned this the hard way on NHL20 franchise mode
Barry Peterson for Cam Neely
Ken Hodge for Rick Middleton
Andrew Raycroft fo Tukkaa Rask.
Couldn’t watch the whole vide, too many ads.
Funny to watch this and hearing that its weird to see him in an Islander uniform.
The Stars getting Seguin was such a steal from the Bruins.
No doubt he is the best CZcams or ever
The Golden Brett!!!! Top 3 Greatest Pure Goal Scorer of All-Time!!!
i don't think i'd put him that high. ovechkin, lemieux, bossy, richard, and his own dad i'd put ahead of him.
You could make the whole video on Mike Milbury/Islander trades. Chara, Luongo, Bertuzzi, JP Dumont. Also, in the Satan trade, it was Craig Millar, not Miller.
The islanders should have their own video on this topic. There’s also Luongo who they gave up on.
My list is...Brett Hull (23)
Phil Esposito
Joe Thornton
Roberto Luongo
On the flip side, if they weren't traded would they have gotten better? Or was it the trade that gave them the kick they needed?
Do you have the same upload schedule as legorocks99?
I often wonder when I see videos like this if the players would have been as successful had they remained with their original team.
How about some old-school Red Wings trades (that mostly demonstrate how Jack Adams did more harm than good for the franchise)? Bucyk, Hall, and Dionne all started their careers in Detroit. Heck, even though the Wings got the best playing years out of Red Kelly, he still demonstrated he had plenty left in the tank after Detroit parted ways with him, being crucial in four Cup wins for the Leafs (knocking the Wings out of the finals twice). And Sawchuk had only played 5 full NHL seasons and was at the top of his game when Adams decided to part ways with him. The Wings got him back after a couple seasons and ended up having several more productive years from him, but that initial trade reportedly really hindered Sawchuk's morale for a while. Insane to think the Wings had both a young Sawchuk and a young Hall on their roster, and parted with both of them in the span of a couple years.
Quebec/Colorado went on to win in '96 and '01 so I don't think the organization was too sad about Sundin, who ended up wasting his career in Toronto, never winning the Stanley Cup.
Hull, Thornton and Mika woulda been good choices to talk about too
You got me wondering just where the Bryzgalov buyout is at; whenever the 19-20 season ends it will be half over, which is to say that the Flyers will be paying him not to play through 2027.
Ask Boston fans about Ken Dryden. Conn Smythe, Calder, 5 Vezina's 6 Stanley Cups. Oh ya for the Canadiens
In less than 10 years. Tee hee hee.
you never know how things would have turned out if the trade had not been made, though
Neely, Peca, Hasek, Zhamnov, Brett Hull, Iginla, Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Macabe.
Imagine the Avalance three first line centers of: 1 line C Sakic, 2nd Line C Sundin and 3rd Line C Forsberg. a bit Overpowered.
We ave gotten more cups for Avs
Mats Sundin no longer wanted to play for Nordiques and asked for a trade.
Ps. I now live the house in front of his old house.
Didn't know there was a player named Tyler Saggin in the league. :p
Right? Wonder how his career is going? Tyler Se-geen on the other hand is just fine.
@@KelleysQuiltsandCruises nice one
Sundin was a great player, but you insinuate that it was a bad trade. Lefebvre was integral to the 96 cup for the avs, and Clark was traded for Claude Lemieux who was integral to the 96 Cup as well. Lemieux was then traded to NJ (helped them win a cup) for Brian Rolston, Rolston was part of the trade that got the Avs Ray Bourque for their 2nd cup. So Trading Sundin helped net the Avs 2 Cups, Sundin, like all Leafs, no cups. very worthwhile trade.
Marcus Nasland played on the third or fourth line with the Pens and would not have done too well if he stayed.I agree every one on the list was traded too soon.Should do one on players who refused to play for the teams they drafted.Like Big E.I forgot the Sundin trade.Colorado would have won more cups.
As a Quebec fan, I didn't mind the Sundin trade as... Well, they only had one more year in Quebec. And Clark played incredible during that one shortened season. (Screw Colorado, Claude Lemieux and Patrick Roy. LOL)
As a Canucks fan I am grateful for Naslund. One of my better birthday presents.
Part 2 please
What makes this trade worse;
2nd round- Stolarz traded for Cam Talbot, who later signed in Calgary.
4th round- Taylor Leier, who was traded for Justin Bailey who was never resigned.
And Philadelphia never got to use the other 4th rounder.
I really hope that the Kings letting Kubalik go doesn't end up on a list like this in the future.
Well you can't do much about it if Kubalik didn't want to play for the Kings.
When i heard barrymore all i thought was drew barrymore and charlies angels xD
Make a video on the next Canadian team you think will win the Stanley cup
Nasuld had an UNREAL JRWC wit Peter Forsberg!! 100+ points guaranteed!
In 1986 Vancouver traded Cam Neely AND a third overall pick for Barry Pederson! When Neely got to the Boston Bruins he immediately became a point-per-game player and spent the next 10 years as THE prototype power forward. Yeah, that was too soon...and too much.
Brett Hull, Martin St. Louis, Forsberg, Luongo, Redden, Jokinen,
Which Forsberg? There are two of them that belong in this list imo.
Hasek to Buffalo should top any list lol. Probably could be on the list for being sent to Detroit as well
He wasn’t young anymore when he went to Detroit.
If they didn't trade him it's quite possible that there would not have been an Avs jersey for him to wear.
Mika Zibanejad best szn with
Ottawa- 81 GP- 51 pts
NYR- 51 GP- 75 pts
Teuvo Teräväinen, thats a good example too.
So happy Sens gave us Mika #gorangers!
This is a bummer if you traded these players
I don't know why I never see Alek Stojanov on any "top draft busts" lists. He definitely belongs there. 7 points in 107 NHL games.
The Ottawa Senators traded Pavol Demitra for a guy called Christer Olafson who never played in the NHL. The Senators were pretty stacked at the time.
olsson, and he did play NHL games, but that was embarrassingly bad. RIP pavol demitra.
Luongo - NYI, Hull - Calgary, Hasek - Chicago, Rask - Toronto, Gilmour - St Louis, Selanne - Winnipeg, Mogilny - Buffalo, Neely - Vancouver, Pronger - Hartford, Thornton - Boston. I'm going to stop thinking about them off the top of my head, but please research a little more before adding Satan and McDonagh over these ones. I liked the video idea though.
No Tyler Seguin was moved because of the Bruins where tight to the cap the couldn't pay Seguin
I would say the hasek coming to buffalo trade should be on this list
